(this was done a year ago in 2012) I originally wanted to go to timeless tattoo but they are extremely pricey so I decided to go to East Atlanta tattoo. I went in on thursday because I wanted something...ehhh...edgy. So I scheduled an appt with Amy, shot her some ideas abt a cover up/ semi-quarter sleeve/ floral tat, so she emailed me an idea and I liked it. I went in and she showed me an outline/blueprint and we conversed abt different ideas and she was ready to tat me.

THE PROBLEM though, is that what I CHOSE turned out not looking right, well one of the flowers. Make sure you are very detailed about what you want so that you don't end up paying more getting it done over by a more experienced artist. Overall, I will not be going back. I picked someone much more seasoned in tattooing!!

Im in town visiting some family so me and my cousins decided this would be a great time to get some ink done especially how I have been going on and on about it for a while now.  We chose East Atlanta Tattoo based on yelp reviews..simply put they had more stars.

It was going to be my first Tattoo and it was going to happen on THAT day no looking back so I strolled up to the counter and spoke to Matt showed him my design and he got right to work on my stencil. He made minor suggestions all with my best interests in mind.

The shop is very nice, clean and filled with inspiration. The workstations were very clean. You know I had to pay attention to details ;0p..They get bonus points for having a leopard print rug. I knew i was at the right place. Matt  (who was a cutie) was very kind and efficient. Both him and the other artist were cracking jokes the whole time and made the experience very pleasant even though there was a needle involved.

There was minimal pain but over all I can say that I had a great first tattoo experience and I may have to pay them a visit the next time I am in town.

I flew all the way back to Atlanta to have another tattoo done! Well, not really, I was there to see friends, but East Atlanta Tattoo was on our list of places to go. I had been wanting something to express my fondness for the Lone Star state and had an idea in mind. What can I say? Amy Ross is my girl. I told her what I envisioned and with a few quick strokes of her pen, she had captured exactly what I wanted. I heart Amy AND my new tattoo.

Everyone that I know that has had work done at East Atlanta Tattoo has had a wonderful experince.  The staff is always friendly in addition to all being amazing artists.  Inbetween the ink on the skin and the ink on the wall in the gallery East Atlanta Tattoo is one stop shopping for all of your art needs.

Eric did my 1st tattoo. I never though I would do something like this and was always against it. But after walking into the shop and talking to Dirk, I felt like I was ready. He asked me some questions and gave me advice about size. Next it was all up to Eric. Eric made me feel very comfortable. The place is very clean and all the guys were very professional. I live in NYC and there are so many places I could have gotten this done at there but I would recommend these guys to anyone. I am very happy with my tattoo and if I ever want to do this again, I will definetly come back. Thank you Eric!

East Atlanta Tattoo  is the only place to go.  The guys that work there are pleasant not pretentious.  They are hip without being hipsters.  They are true artists not just ink jockeys.  Dirk Hays, who opened East Atlanta Tattoo, also opened the Gallery next door.  It is a lowbrow, pop-surrealist,  tattoo art based gallery.  What other tattoo shop in town has an adjacent art gallery to showcase their art?  None, because they don't got game. They are all too busy being too cool to tattoo and treating you like crap when you go in.

East Atl tattoo is run by Dirk Hays. Another artist, Dane, works here, as the piercer as well as tattoing.

Friends with tattoos out the wazoo recommended I go here when I wanted a new tattoo - it had been 10 years since my last one & I had no idea who's who. It's one of the best referrals I've ever had.

Dirk did a cover-up piece on my hip & it came out flawless. He's also now working on a 8.5" piece on my bicep - in process. He's not just a guy with the knowledge how to do this. He's a true artist, which is evident looking through his stuff on the website. His style is unique & versatile. I love it because it's clean, uncomplicated, colorful, & fun. You take an idea to him & he's straightforward (but not a jerk) about what he thinks will look the best. It's important to him not only that the piece is good, but also that the focus of the tattoo stands out & none of the art around it detracts from it. This is artistic integrity.

Dirk is not cooler than you, which you'll find at the majority of tattoo parlors. No, his place is not fancy, & that's because there's not an ounce of pretentiousness in this guy. He makes you feel comfortable & welcome, & you end up having a good time when you're there. It almost makes you forget how much a tattoo hurts.

Dirk was in East Atlanta first, but his place isn't alone anymore. If you want fancy atmosphere, "cool" music, fashionably dressed staff, & a place run by folks who think tattoos are marketable & profitable, go somewhere else. If you want a cozy place, music that runs from "Ode to Billy Joe" to "Baby Got Back," guys relaxed in jeans & tshirts, a place run by a guy who loves what he does & is in the middle, hands-on doing it, & fair prices, come here.

This is a quality tattoo shop not concerned with how they look. They just want to create some art, put it on your skin, & bond with you because that's part of a good tattoo experience.
