Evan was wonderful. Took my daughter there (she's 8) to get her ears pierced. He explained everything and has such a calming manner. Â She's a dram queen so she cried and he stopped and let her look at the one ear done and told her how great it looked and she was ready to do the second one. Â By the time we left she was fine. Â The jewelry is really cool she can change the front stones without removing the earrings and they even offered to do it if we come in. Â The wait was long on a Saturday and if you have a little girl my daughters age you have to watch the others waiting talking about their nipple piercings and Christina's during the wait but it was worth the extra attention from Evan and caring attitude. Â She felt fine 10 minutes after we were done and had no swelling or pain the next day. Â Everything was clean and sterile and was definatly worth the piece of mind that my daughter would be taken care of.
Review Source:I've gotten my navel, nose and lip pierced here (at 3 different times, don't worry!) I love coming here because it's a place that I can trust-- that it's sterile, they're using top notch stuff, and the piercers know what they're doing.
Angie pierced my navel yesterday. I'm really scared of needles but she made me feel so comfortable! She's super friendly, super funny... not one of those intimidating/annoying know-it-alls.
I'd give this place 5 stars, but took a star off because it IS pretty expensive (my belly button was $95). At the end, they also sort of put you on the spot by asking "how much tip are you putting on the card?" They asked this to me and my friend, and the woman before us... it just really catches you off guard and makes you uncomfortable.
I had been wanting to get my cartilage pierced for a few months now, so I went on Yelp to find the best piercing studio in San Diego. I had previously gotten my double lobes pierced at Claire's last October with my friends, but thought it would have been a better decision to go to a professional piercing studio for my cartilage. Also because I had read that needles are better for piercing than piercing guns.
My friends and I walked into Enigma and waited a bit while the receptionist (didn't catch her name) was helping out some other customers. After a short wait we had told her that we were there to get cartilage (helix) piercings, and she helped us pick out some starter earrings. My friend initially wanted the star stud but she advised us to go with a shape with less pointy edges since that earring would probably be hurtful during the healing process. My friend ended up choosing a circular black onyx stud and I chose a cubic zirconia stud. After we chose our jewelry another guy working there (didn't catch his name either) helped us with some paperwork. Both staff members were friendly and also funny!
Waited for a few minutes while other customers were inside the piercing room with Evan, and then we were next. The piercing room is VERY clean. My friend was first, so Evan sat her down, showed her how they clean and sterilize everything they use. Evan even put on a mask to cover his mouth while he was talking to us/piercing us! He marked on where he thought the cartilage piercing would look best, showed my friend and she approved. He walked her through the whole process (told her when she would feel some pressure, told her when to take a big breath for the piercing and told her when he was putting the earring in). I was very impressed at how nice and courteous he was to my friend so that definitely calmed my nervous, because I was getting more and more nervous as time went on.
When it was my turn, Evan took a few minutes to clean everything again. I hopped onto the table and Evan did the same things with me; he showed me the sterilization of everything he was going to use, marked on my ear where he was going to pierce and talked me through the whole process. I had anticipated a lot more pain, but it just felt like a pinch through my ear (obviously more than lobe piercings since the cartilage is thicker) but it was definitely bearable. I love that Evan asked both of us if we were feeling okay, or if were lightheaded. Thankfully both of us were feeling good after getting pierced.
After we were all done getting pierced, Evan talked to us about how to clean our ears doing the sea salt soak, and gave us specific instructions and his business card in case we had any questions. He also let us know to come back in 6-8 weeks to get a shorter backing for our earrings. Evan thanked us for coming in, and we paid with the receptionist in the front and she also went over the cleaning/healing process. We both left tips for Evan due to his outstanding job.
I don't give out that many 5 star ratings here on Yelp but coming to Enigma was the best decision I think I could have made to get my cartilage pierced. I was beyond impressed with the helpfulness, friendliness and professionalism of the staff, and especially with the cleanliness of the piercing room.
Never will I ever consider going to Claire's for any piercings ever again after coming to Enigma! Everything about Enigma is so, so, so much better than going to Claire's, so paying more to get pierced & the jewelry was worth it. I will definitely be coming back for my next piercing!
When my friend told me to do my piercing at enigma, I was hesitant because of the reviews that says they arent friendly or their customer service is sub par. However, we went today and just got our helix pierced. The lady at the front was accomodating along side the guy at the front too (sadly, I didn't get the chance to ask for their name) she gave us some jewelry that we might like. They are very professional I can guarantee that. Then when it is our turn to get pierced, Evan gave the step by step on what to expect. I hope that they have a branch in LA soon and that is just as friendly as the staff in Pacific Beach! :)
Review Source:Evan was amazing! He pierced my daughters nose and it looks great! He was very thorough, and gave us lots of information about the procedure and the aftercare. Evan was extremely detailed and professional. I was impressed with the whole procedure. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone at the front desk (and I apologize for not remembering his name) was extremely polite and talked to me for a half an hour, before we made the short drive to Garnett Ave. This was a big deal to me to find the right place for my daughter's piercing, because she is 16 years old!
I highly recommend Enigma for your next piercing. The studio was extremely clean and very nice. Everyone was professional and knowledgeable. Very little paperwork to fill out and you actually see and know your needle is sterilized!
I don't know how much piercing prices vary from one studio to the next, but Enigma was very reasonable to me and well worth the happiness of my daughter who absolutely loves her piercing!
Useless Rude and unprofessional.
Took daughter to get ears pieced - website raves about piecing etc for children, yet staff contradict website after we have called any everything..
Drive 30 minutes because they say professional daughter left in tears...
Thanks for being so useless Enigma Professional Piercing Studio
Such great friendly staff!!
I had a problem with my dermal piercing that popped off and unfortunately I needed to remove it completely :( The piercer removed it so gently and I had no scaring, I was VERY impressed. I had one removed previously where I originally got them put in and the guy totally damaged the area. She was great and I would 100% recommend this place!!
Thanks :)
This place is AMAZING! I went here in March of last year after a ton of online research to find a great spot here in SD. I wanted to get an industrial done and had done lots of reading so I'd know what to expect, aftercare, etc. I went to enigma and was greeted by the girl at the front desk (forgot her name but she was very cool) and a piercer named Mike.
After a little paperwork he took me into the very clean piercing room and started marking my ear. He explained every step of the way, let me approve his dot placement, and was very thorough/ The cleanliness of their studio and instruments I would compare to my days assisting on surgery patients...it is that sterile. My industrial has healed nicely and in the time since I've been back for a vertical labret. Since it's been a year since I got that one - I'll probably be going back soon for something new :)
Extremely disappointed...
So many good comments so I thought I'd drive 20 miles to this particular shop to get pierced. Â I called this place TWICE today to tell them I wanted to come in for a walk in but it would be close to their 8:30 last call walk in time...
Arrived at 8:30 and they said turned me away with some bullshit about how I didn't get here on time.. I even told them I drove 20 miles out of my way in traffic to get here as quickly as I could after work. Â They said Oh can't you just come back tomorrow?
Nope.. don't think so. Â For all the hype, your closing service should not be anything less than the rest of the day. Â I say these workers were lazy and couldn't even take 5 more minutes to help me out.
You close at 9pm. Â That's when you should start clean up. Â You just wanted to leave work early, and now I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone interested in getting pierced. Â Good riddance I won't be stopping at any of your branches.
Enigma was recommended to me by the amazing Elayne Angel last year after I got pierced by her. Since I live in San Diego and Elayne only pierces on special occasions throughout the country now, I felt even more at ease coming here after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp.
Thank you Evan for helping me out with my little issue today! I called ahead to get my jewelry re-inserted. I explained my situation and he was very professional both on the phone and in person. He answered all my questions, explained what he was doing, and ensured I was at ease through all of it.
I was mostly excited with the cleanliness and aseptic technique they use while piercing.
Let me first start off by saying Evan is awesome!!!! He pierced my daughters ears, She is 5 months, he was wonderful with her and did a great job. Everything was sterilized right before he did it vary comforting. He took his time making sure they were going to be even that took patience. Lol. I also really like the earrings the back of them are flat, the stud part screws in. Â Yeah it was $100 but its worth it. I want the Safest for my daughter the places in the mall are not sterile like piercing place are PERIOD. To me it's way worth it, the only way to go! Also being he used a needle not a gun her ears were not even red at!
Review Source:This place is a little pricy for piercings but you get what you pay for. It's incredibly clean, the piercers are experienced and friendly, and you can usually find a coupon to use here if you're lucky.
I've gotten my nose, lip, and conch pierced here and each time turned out fine. If any infection occurred, it was my own fault for being lazy about cleaning my piercings.
I recommend Enigma to anyone looking to get pierced in a safe and cleanly environment!
Enigma is a little more pricey than other piercing shops, but you get what you pay for. I have to give them 3 stars instead of 5 because of the VERY rude lady behind the counter. She speaks to you in a very derogatory tone and has no customer service ethic what-so-ever. I would give enigma 5 stars had it not been for her. Other than that, they are great.
Review Source:This review is a bit overdue since I wanted to cool down a bit before reviewing, but I feel like I still want to say something so that other people will be treated better than I was. I carefully researched all of the piercing places in San Diego before I allowed someone to put something on/in my body; I found all the great reviews here saying how clean and professional this place is, so I decided on Enigma.
Let me start off by saying that if I was only rating for cleanliness and jewelry selection, I would rate 5 stars because it really was super professional in that they sterilize everything right in front of you and wash hands and sterilize the site they pierce and all that good stuff. I felt very comfortable getting pierced and knowing I would not be picking up anyone else's germs. So on that front, Enigma rocks!!!
At this location, I got a total of 4 ear piercings and one navel piercing. I am now getting to the part where I lower the rating. For my first experience (one ear piercing on each side+my navel) I came in and started browsing the jewelry to choose something. I had zero piercings before because I am very allergic to metals on my skin (watches, necklaces, rings) so I researched and asked my doctor who said that surgical steel or titanium would be best for my skin. I asked the woman behind the counter which pieces are made of those metals so I could choose from them. She looked at me and condescendingly said "Why do you care? If you aren't allergic to the button closing your jeans, you aren't allergic to anything we have here." Um...okay..I still insisted on getting only titanium or surgical steel because my skin is very sensitive to long-term metal exposure but she treated me like I was some kind of idiot because I'm not allergic to my jeans..I let that slide, though. Then I went in to get my piercings. The whole process was totally painless for both my ears and my navel and the piercer was really nice. However, when I stood up and he asked me to check it out and make sure I liked it..it was noticeably slanted, so I said "hm it looks a little crooked" and he said it was normal (?). Well, I followed all the cleansing instructions and everything, but it would never heal. I came back to enigma to get 2 more ear piercings and have them look at my not healing and scarring navel, but they just stood by their work. I asked if I could take it out and if they would re pierce it straight, but they said "it looks fine but if you want it re-done, you can f pay us to re-pierce it." I had never had piercings before this one and frankly, I am a perfectionist and it really bothered me that it was noticeably crooked!! I'm pretty shy and I kept wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, but after having them be rude to me every time I came in and not offering to remedy my bad experience, I will not be returning and I would not recommend them to anyone. I know I'm in the minority here with all these 5 star reviews, but I seriously gave them so many chances and I was always disappointed.
I was so new that I didn't know better, but now I know how places are supposed to treat you after having gone to a few tattoo consults with friends. When my navel piercing was not healing, I coincidentally was at La Mancha tattoo with my friend who was getting some work done and the kind man looked at my painful navel piercing for me. He said it was migrating due to the crookedness and that was also why it would not heal (even after having it in for 1 year and doing every saline soak I was supposed to! Enigma acted like I was stupid and blamed it on me "probably" not soaking it properly when I was correct all along and followed all their instructions to the letter!!!). He said I should take it out now or else the scarring will almost definitely get worse. I took it out and you could see the marks where it was pierced originally (practically diagonal and not straight at all) and where it scarred horizontally migrating over time. It felt like I had a hard bump as the top of my navel and it was purple and noticeable. I used Mederma on it since then, and one year later, the scar is almost invisible and isn't a raised bump anymore.
I just can't understand why Enigma basically lied to me and insisted their work was okay.... They are professionals, so I trusted their word and stuck it out for a year following their cleaning instructions and waiting for it to heal properly when all along, it should have just been taken out and redone. I understand taking pride in your work, but I could have gotten an infection from having the open wound in my navel like that. I also could have been left with a pretty disgusting scar if I didn't get the advice to use Mederma from the other shop. I wouldn't have even been mad if they admitted it should have been re-pierced in the first place. But they were rude to me because I didn't know better. I'd go somewhere with genuine people who won't lie to you, be rude to you, and treat you like an idiot.
Oh, how it hurts me to take off a star, but in the past few months since I've had my last piercing, I have not had even one enjoyable experience here. Every time I've stopped in to look at jewelry or ask questions, I've been treated with disdain and condescension.
A few months ago now, I special ordered a piece of jewelry for my conch, and I was told it would arrive in a few weeks. About 4 weeks in, I called to see if it had arrived, and was told: "Have we called you? No? Then we don't have it." At this point, it's been a few months and I'm past even caring if they've received my order.
I still want to give Enigma 4 stars because I truly admire the operation they have going, but sometimes I quite miss the nice guy that I always used to see at the front counter.
Just got my ear cartilage re-pierced here, and my experience was awesome.
I had my cartilage pierced two years ago, but had to remove it because I worked at In-N-Out for several years and it was against policy. I explained my situation and they were so reassuring that re-piercing it would be no problem, and the guy even suggested a more appropriate placement on my ear.
The procedure itself was surprising, because they went above and beyond in making sure that the needle and equipment was completely sterilized, and that I was aware of the entire process. They explained every part clearly and made sure that I was comfortable. The shop itself is super clean and organized.
Before leaving, they gave me a tiny baggy of sea salt and explained the cleaning process, as well as provided a list of Do's and Don'ts. The shop where I originally got this piercing two years ago didn't do ANY of these things.
Overall, although the price was about double what I paid previously, the ease of the experience and reassurance from the two men working was well worth the money.
They only take walk-ins and it's a tiny shop, so be prepared to wait if there are a few people hanging out in the lobby.
Loved this place, keep up the good work, Enigma!
PB has an abundance of piercing shops but I highly recommend Enigma. Â It's farther away from the beach and the prices are steeper. Â However, the extra cash is a small price to pay for quality.
I had my rook pierced at another shop down the street and later had it changed out for a different jewelry piece. Unfortunately, the piece fell out while I was backpacking overseas so I was unable to get it replaced immediately. I searched all the shops at around 1030AM but no piercers were available. I stopped by Enigma when I searched yelp and it's probably the only place that opens at 11AM. Â
Luckily, the cartilage was not closed so I was able to get my piercing replaced. Â Unfortunately, I forgot the name of my piercer, however, I felt very secure having her work on me. Â She held a nice conversation so I didn't feel awkward. Â She then explained why she chose a particular size for my ear and was very knowledgeable. Â I must say that my new rook replacement is fantastic! Â My previous ones irritated my ear which I guess was due to the size or metal quality. I've had no problems with irritation or the piece falling out.
WOW! I am blown away! This place is so professional, clean, well set up and well run. Â I've gotten 5 piercings here, and had no qualms about having different piercers or not knowing who was doing it, because I've never had an experience other than awesome.
My favorite part: they don't look down on me like a tattoo/piercing parlor would just for being some chick who wants ear piercings and who doesn't have 500 tatts. They treat me like a real person :)
I will never EVER let anyone else pierce me, other than Didier. Well, Matt can as well. I began getting piercings when I was 19, my navel was my first. I have a HORRIBLE fear of needles, and I figured that if I started getting some piercings, I would get over my fear.
Well, the first jack hole that I let pierce my navel was a total masochist. It took him a good five minutes to pierce what should have aken only a few seconds. He even LEFT the room while I lay there with a needle through my navel!!
I met Didier at Chronic tattoo, and thought I'd give it another go, this was like 5 years later, after being traumatized by the first asshole.
He repierced my navel, because the first guy went way too shallow, in SECONDS HE WAS DONE, jewelery and everything. I couldn't believe it!!
I discovered that getting pierced could not only NOT hurt, but could be done quickly, cleanly and by someone who cared about the WAY it was done.
32 piercings later, including a few transdermal implants, a star in my chest, and a few things he wanted to try out upon returning from trade shows, I will NEVER let anyone but these guys put needles thru my body. They can pierce anything the want on me, as far as I'm concerned. Â Thanks, Didier, you guys are absolutely the best!!
If you are looking for a great , friendly, extremely knowledgeable staff, clean sterile environment, any help or questions you may have about aftercare, and a REDICULOUS selection of jewelery, you need to go here. Hands down ten stars out of five.
I'm just writing about my experience there, where I watched two of my friends get piercings. I feel like it's a bit pricey, but their work ethic really is great.
The room they pierce you in is very clean and includes a sink that they constantly wash their hands in. They have a small amount of pieces to choose from if you want to get small piercings, but they're general enough that you'll find something you'll like.
In the piercing room, they show you that the needle is sterilized, which was a touch I liked, as I wouldn't want any random needle piercing me! The piercer was very calm and personable when trying to get my friend to calm down. I liked his techniques in keeping her calm, because she was literally on the verge of a breakdown. However, when it really got to it, he was professional and did his job correctly, efficiently, and quickly. Great experience there! Will most likely come here if I am in need of another piercing.
I lost one of my Neometal earrings a few days ago (completely my fault!) and needed a quick replacement. Despite my awful experiences with Enigma, it's only a block away from where I live and they are the only Neometal dealer I knew of in the area, so I decided to try and get a replacement earring from their shop.
I called the shop to see if they had what I needed in stock (the Neometal threadless post) and asked for the price. Angie told me that it was $20 for one post...I was surprised because the posts I bought at Body Art Forms were the same size and cost only $10 per post. I knew it was unlikely that they would price-match, but I decided to ask anyway. I understand and respect their policy, but Angie was very rude in her reply: "If you're getting the posts for half our price, it's not Neometal." Her tone was condescending and derogatory. Offended, I asked to speak to her manager, Evan. I had a much better experience speaking to Evan, he was apologetic and said that he was sorry that I had a bad experience with Angie, but then justified her statements by saying that many shops are selling knock-offs of Neometal and branding them incorrectly. Offended again, I called Neometal and asked if Body Art Forms was an authorized distributor of Neometal jewelry. Mark at Neometal confirmed that they are, and said that to his knowledge, Body Art Forms has branded all Neometal items correctly.
Overall, I found comments made by the staff at Enigma to be unprofessional, unwarranted, and inappropriate. There is no justification for slandering another shop just because they happen to have lower prices than your own. I should've known better than to even contact Enigma as this has consistently been the attitude that I've received in their shop. It's unfortunate as I've had contact with the owner and he seems to genuinely care about his business and be a great guy, but his employees make the entire experience at Enigma dismal.
I don't ever write reviews. Really ever. But I must for this place. I got my Rook and my Tragus pierced, and I heard from many people that those are extremely painful piercings. To be honest, I hardly felt a thing. I wasn't even sure it happened; it was quick and painless. And they where wonderful too! They walked me through the process, explaining everything, they where very clean, and overall just great.
GO HERE.
Evan is as good as it gets. Very professional and patient. I had to hug him afterwards because he's just that great. He's also APP certified which puts him above the average piercer. The shop is very clean with a large selection to choose from and its very well decorated too. If you want it done right come to Enigma.
Review Source:We had our daughter's two-month old baby girl's ears pierced today by Evan. Â He did a great job; very kind and taking the time to have the holes in the perfect place. Â Baby hardly noticed. Â I had third holes put in myself (the second ones were put in when our daughter's were pierced on her first birthday).
The shop is very clean; the staff is very concerned with cleanliness and sterility.
Got my nose re-pierced here. Still have it to this day. Also got my helix, belly button, and just recently my tragus pierced by several different employees and they're all very knowledgeable and friendly. I don't trust any other place and brave the PB traffic every time to go here.
I am looking to get my second lobe set done but they may be disturbed to find me there twice in a week. I'm just that addicted.
Went today to get my first cartilage piercing with Evan. It was my first piercing since my lobes when I was a baby so I was pretty nervous. When we walked in Evan and another employee were cleaning jewelry in the display cases with gloves. The shop is EXTREMELY clean and they take lot of precautions (consent forms, sterilizing tabs, id checks). Jewelry selection is pretty good, kind of on the expensive side.
During the piercing itself Evan was reallllly patient with me, taking the time to mark where the piercing would go and making sure it was exactly what I wanted. He cleaned the site very thoroughly and talked me through the procedure so there would be no surprises. Quick pinch and it was over. In total I spent about $70 including tip but I don't have any regrets
All of my piercings have come from Engima (save for my lobe piercings that I got when I was a little kid) and I wouldn't have it any other way. The guys (and girls) here are great- especially Mark.
Mark is like the parent that you run to when the other one says no and you're really hoping that they'll cave and say yes. Over the years I've had piercings/jewelry that I've wanted, but for whatever reasons my body just doesn't have the right shape for them. Other piercers will just say that it doesn't fit and stop at that- which I completely respect them for, I'd rather have someone refuse to do something that wouldn't work than put in something that will ruin the piercing- but Mark always seems to find a way to work with me to find a way to modify what I want to both be safe to my piercing and look great, be it a slightly different piercing placement or a different jewelry style. But I just have to emphasize that although he's helped me get things that other people have said to be impossible, he never tries to cut corners and do them anyway. His first priority is always health and safety, and all of his modifications have this in mind.
The studio itself is very casual and laid back, with plants, a water cooler, and a stack of National Geographics in the waiting area to welcome you. Although the staff is all heavily modified themselves, nothing in this shop comes across as scary or intimidating. Even my first time walking in there as a naive 19 year old in a floral dress to get my nose pierced, I felt comfortable, not scared, which is great when you're going to be having a stranger sticking needles in your body. Everything is super clean, especially in the piercing room, where they follow extremely strict procedures to ensure that the jewelry, the area to be pierced, and anything that will come in contact with either is sterile and safe.
Lastly, they have great customer service. Whenever I've needed some jewelry readjusted, had a bump to be checked out, or anything else service related, they've always been happy to check it out and never feel like they're rushing you to get back to clients getting paid services.
With all that being said, I wouldn't go anywhere else for my piercings, and always remember to tip! (Seriously, these guys deserve it.)
I would give this place ten stars if I could. I'm sure I'm not the only person this has happened to, but I ended up fainting for a second (I think more from excitement than from anxiety, I was actually completely shocked that it happened because I wasn't nervous at all) and they were on top of it. Roxy brought me a glucose tablet and water (there was also a nice girl who didn't work there that gave me some of her Naked juice which helped). Roxy and Mark made me feel super comfortable and told me that while the decision was up to me, they would actually recommend that I wait to get the piercing done. They were much more concerned with my well-being than making a sale.
ON TOP OF ALL THAT, I have gotten a few piercings there before (which is actually why I was so surprised that I fainted this time) and they've always been very professional and detailed in their explanations of procedures. The jewelry is top quality and there is an awesome selection. They've got me for life.
Went in to see Evan this morning to get my daughter's ears pierced. She is not quite 3 months old so needless to say I wanted the best. After doing my research I knew this was the place to go. I surely didn't want to go to Claire's in the mall where they can't sterilize the guns. Evan was amazing, walked us through everything and made sure we were 100% comfortable with the whole procedure. I love the earrings they have as well in comparison because the backs are completely flat so they won't poke her when she sleeps. They also provide the cleaning products and make the whole process very smooth. I am more than happy with how it all went and wish I could give more than just 5 stars. Yes the price is higher than at the mall but I would rather pay more than have the risk of blood borne pathogens because guns can't be sterilized. It's definitely worth it! Thanks Evan!
Review Source:I went in for my first non-earlobe piercing just yesterday after having done my research. Enigma repeatedly came up as a reputable piercing shop so I decided that's where I'd go for my tragus piercing.
My friend and I walked into the, at the time, empty shop with just 2 employees chilling in the front. Our piercer, Angie, was super cool and personable. The gentleman seemed aloof and distant however, once you started talking to him, he was also rad and knowledgable. Just quiet to begin with...
Angie did a great job and she really keeps you preoccupied with stories etc, talking to you while she's doing the work as to kind of distract you. She cleaned up the space thoroughly both before and after each of our piercings so that was obviously good to see.
Clean, nice jewelry selection, cool and helpful staff. :)
I always heard about this place and pass by it every time im in PB. My nose ring got lost in my sleep..weird haha but it was gone when I woke up. My hole started to close and this was nearest place with the best reviews.
First off, this location is very discreet, but it fits their store. Gives you an urban vibe. The store is organized and the guys helped me out so well. I honestly thought that I would be just N & OUT but I didn't. They guys asked me questions concerning my piercing such as "how long has the ring been out" "how long have you had this piercing" "any pain or discomfort" I was a little skeptical because I was unfamiliar with their care.
After I chose the ring, they explained to me the differences with each ring/stud what not. One guy got me into the procedure room and had his equipment ready. He had told me that he has to check if the hole hasn't closed because he didn't' want to irritate or cause trauma to my piercing by inserting my new stud.
SO it all made sense with all the questions. He was very gentle and didn't leave me hanging with directions in care. I am very satisfied with the customer service and care this studio has given me. I recommend this to anywhere near or far!!! Reviews dont lie!!!
Nice, clean place, lots of variety in jewelery a lot of organics and wood gauges. I got my nose pierced with a hoop by a dirty blonde haired guy (cant remember his name but he was the manager) he was laid back and professional. I went in there knowing i wanted a hoop and the counter girl was super against it (i know my body and ive had it done with a hoop before and i heal better and faster with a hoop) this chick was hardcore trying to deter me. Whatever, shes just the counter girl. The piercer totally got it and had no isses with piercing me with a hoop and said it was perfectly fine. They gave me good after care instructions to take home and a little baggy of salt to clean with.
Review Source:Well first off say i was impressed with this place it unbelievable! I love piercings & have a lot (navel,spiderbites,tragus,helix,conch..etc) , that i acquired before i moved to cali (got them in TN) but for months now i've wanted a new one but no more on my face & since my previous dermals on my chest rejected it was time to decide, i heard enigma was the place to go & always did a stellar job. I deff. wanted it to be an amazing job especially when i decided i was going to be ballsy and get a down under piercing.
So on wednesday me & my man happened to be around the area and decided now was as good of time as ever to go for it. So i proceeded to head over with my man more nervous as i was. When we arrived we got a parking space in the rear of the building & headed inside. Its super homey & tons of jewelry , i was impressed by the selection. As the receptionist finished up with the client before me she promptly greeted me, I told her i was looking for a below piercing & she started telling me about the jewelry & the process, then i met my piercer Angie :) she was super sweet & fun off the bat so my jitters soon flitted away . So after picking out a barbell with a nice white rhinestone they had me initial a small paper thing that tells you with a black line everything is super sanitized... i've never seen that done so i was REALLY impressed. So i waited while they sanitized the equipment & had a smoke, in about 10 minutes Angie told me i could go into the piercing room.. with boyfriend in tow i went in.
Angie is amazing. She explained everything while she was doing it & before hand, answered all my questions fully & made me feel soooo comfortable i can't even express. After checking to make sure everything was a go, drawing a line and showing me where it would go & lay after it was pierced, Â i laid back & held my boyfriends hand. She told me what everything was & what she was using it for, when it came time to put the needle through she told me to take a big breath & exhale...after a quick moment of an extreme pinch and some pressure it was over (she had told me before hand what to expect & that it wasn't as bad as people think) She put my jewelry in & handed me a mirror to see it.. i was very pleased & couldn't stop smiling :D I thanked her multiple times & walked out to pay .
To my surprise they give you a baggy of sea-salt & a very detailed aftercare sheet (SO IMPRESSED AGAIN) also the receptionist gave me Angie's card & said if i had any Q;s i could call. Alas this is probably my last piercing , but i will buy all my jewelry from here & Angie told me in 3 weeks i could come back & she would change my barbell for a smaller one & thats exciting i've never had that offer , i've always had to self teach myself to put in my other piercings.
All n all this place is amazing, lovely informative staff, super clean & homey. I will return to enigma & i'm referring tons of friends. Way to goooo enigma --much love & respect.
This place is really clean and organized. The employees are super cool and knowledgeable.
I went in to get my nose pierced. First of all, you should know that they don't take appointments, only walkins, which is fine. The nose piercing was $25 and the little stud I got was also $25 so with tax it came out to $52.19. I also tipped the guy $20 because he explained everything he was doing and kept me as calm as possible. He also put up with all of my friends being there in the room with us. I also appreciate the fact that he didn't make me feel stupid for being scared. I was happy with the price and the piercing itself, which took less than 5 minutes.
This place was so nice that two friends that were with me decided to get their tragus's pierced.
I am done with my piercings adventures but I will continue to recommend this place.
I came here to get a helix piercing. Evan did a great job making me feel comfortable and answered all my questions. The best part about this experience is that there was very very little pain. I felt a little pinch and it was over in a second.
I am very happy with my piercing and will come back again to purchase their jewelry. Yes it is a bit pricey, but if someone is going to put a hole in my body I'm willing to pay extra to make sure it's done right! Haha.
Afterwards they give you aftercare instructions and sea salt. The lady at the front desk was awesome too and made a great recommendation about starting off with a stud instead of a hoop for quicker healing. Â
This is definitely the place to go to get pierced!
I got a daith piercing done here about a month ago and I was a little disappointed with my piercer. I don't remember her name, but she had a really hard time getting my jewelry in. It took her nearly 30 minutes to get it in, this involved an assortment of exta equipment. I have a pretty high level of tolerance for pain and I almost made her stop a couple times. My friend was watching and she said it looked as bad as it felt. The piercer apologized afterward and told me that it would almost certainly swell and might have other issues. When I got home I cleaned it and tried to wait out the pain that was radiating all the way to my eye. I ended up having to take aleve to get through the night and the next day.
The piercing itself was fine, more painful than my rook for sure, although I think the guy who did my rook would have done a better job. I don't remember him actually telling us his name, but the card says Didier Suarez. He was awesome.
My friend got piercings with me both times and she agreed that he was like way better than the girl. She said that her second was way more painful and she was really mad that the piercer didn't tell her until afterward that she'd had almost no success with snugs.
Everything turned out alright though. The pain subsided after about 2 days and I haven't had any problems, no redness, no swelling, nothing.
Bottom Line: Great place if the right person is working. Okay place even when you get someone else, it's still super clean and friendly and they have a great selection of jewelry.
This place is awesome. The employees are kind, informative, and very friendly. I got my tragus here by Mark. He was very good at making me feel comfortable before, during, and after the piercing. They know what they're talking about, so go here if you want true professionals to help you out. I've been to a couple other piercing places before, and these guys are definitely the best. I will come back if I want something else done, for sure!
Review Source:I've been coming here since I was sixteen, and have gotten my bellybutton, Monroe, and a dermal(on my wrist) all done here. I probably won't go anywhere else for piercings. And in all honesty, I don't know why it's taken me this long to give them a review!
My belly button was a breeze, so was my Monroe, and my dermal had slight difficulty, but the staff is friendly and professional which all of them have there license on the board. They are knowledgeable, clean, clean, clean, and pretty decent prices.
I love this place for the fact that it is strictly piercings only. It's not some random tattoo artist saying let me pierce you really quick to make extra cash. I love that they have so many options, jewelry selections, products, ect. And all of the products are top notch.
The only time I have ever really had a complain was my dermal on my wrist. The ball would keep falling off, and I immediately became panicked. I was hoping I didn't strip the threading of the dermal. When I went in to have them take a look, they said it was fine and replaces a new top/ball for free. I was so happy and they tightened it on there so good, I haven't had a problem with it since.
I still have all my piercings, and all of them have been great. Never infected and I still love them.
The reason why I knocked a star off, was because off a staff member. When I went in to get the ball replaced/ dermal checked out, the staff member told me he would replace it for free and tighten it on there so it wouldn't fall of anymore. We got to talking and I was giving him praise on what a great place Enigma is. The employee (male) than asked me who did my dermal the last time. I described him since I couldn't remember his name, and luckily wasn't the same person. However, there WAS someone working at enigma back around 2011 and before? Who was posing to be the owner of Enigma and pretty much F*ing up everyone's piercings. I didn't ask if he was licensed, however I Â know and remember seeing the man he described. I remember seeing him every time I went in for any piercings or friends piercings. (2006 till 2011) I am unsure of the name, nor did I ask what drama or what happened. But sometimes some things are better left unsaid. If your the owner of the place than If that's your business than how did it take you 5 years to figure out he was posing as you? It's good to inform customers about this matter, however, the way he presented it was "non-nonchalant" and like "it wasn't a big deal." Made me a bit uncomfortable, Â but I could have lived not knowing that information. Sometimes things are better left unsaid. Or sometimes things are Said better in a professional matter.
However, I believe the business is thriving with a second location downtown off adams. They are professional, licensed, clean, knowledgeable, have been around for years, and I am a happy customer. If anyone has the opportunity to go, go to PB! Never heard any bad complains, but I thought I'd share my thoughts.
I came with a friend in an hour before closing to get dermal piercings. The two people there were already cleaning the rooms and dumping trash out, so I felt a little bad for coming in that late. They reassured me that it was okay, all they ask is that we come in 30 minutes before closing to get a piercing done.
The process was simple and my piercer made me feel really comfortable. All my questions were answered and cleaning process was explained in detail.
I really appreciate that they give out packets of sea salt for you to use; even though it's pretty cheap to get a carton of it at the store, it's one less thing to do at the end of the day.
Came here feeling Zen and wanted a nose ring to put it all together.. Yelp's nose ring piercing and enigma came up with 5 stars!
So I called and asked if I needed an appointment and was told nope just come on over.
Went directly over and greeted by Marc. He looks just like his pics :)
He advised I have a bite to eat first. So we went and had some food and they were waiting for us.
The facility was clean and everything was explained well. Felt completely comfortable. So I went to the table and some more explanations of the procedure. Next thing I knew he's talking about this or that and pinch there it is! My eyes started watering but that was it. After he explained the easy cleaning procedures and we were out. All for $50 .. Great guy! Thanks Marc!
Since I found this place way back when, I haven't gone anywhere else for my jewelry. The quality of the products they carry is absolutely the best. They have such a wide range of everything, the staff is super nice and wicked professional. The place is spotless.
Today prompted me to write a review. I'm surprised it took so long for me to praise how lovely this place is. I wish I knew the names of the two who helped me. I'm constantly losing at least one of the balls on my lip ring. I mean, this is a regular occurrence. I very well could just order a slew of them online on the cheap, but I know what I'm getting at Enigma, and I am a fan of the quality.
Funny thing is, I live in Golden Hill and travel up to PB when there's one around here in North Park (I think), but I'm so consistently pleased with the folks up in PB that I can't seem to stop going.
Cheers Enigma, for never letting me down!
I have been here on three separate occasions, for three different piercings: tragus, forward helix, and navel. Â Every experience has been great. Â The shop is very clean and I was able to go in without an appointment each time. Â
Yes, other shops may charge much less, but these guys don't cut any corners and their work and the jewelry they use is of great quality.
I have been wanting my navel pierced, and have been scouring the internet for the best of the best studio around. Yelpers loved Enigma so much, I decided to jump at the chance to get my piercing this rainy day!
After braving the traffic in PB (dark + rain= insane San Diego drivers!) I made it to the studio without getting lost OR wet. I was immediately taken aback by Enigma's glorious array of jewelry. WHOA! The guy at the front was super chill, had me pick out jewelry, fill out paperwork, and we talked about suspensions (gnarly!) while the piercer (Mark!) finished up another piercing. Â
As soon as I made it into the piercing room (so fresh 'n' so clean, like a doctor's office!) Mark marked (haha) my navel for placement, and I approved. Cue the forceps, a deep breath, a slight pinch, and voilà ! I have a lovely, perfect new navel piercing. I'm stoked!
Throughout the entire procedure, Mark was walking me through what we was doing, and showed me that everything to be used for my piercing was completely sterile. He gave me an aftercare card and even some sea salt! The price was more than reasonable. (Tipping is not just a city in China... show your piercer some love!)
Many thanks, Enigma! I will be back! Back for some rad jewelry, back for new piercings, and back to bring friends!
I got a tongue piercing here with Mark about a month ago. He's always really courteous and professional, and he makes the experience quick and (almost) painless every time.
The reason I knocked off a star is because my tongue piercing is a little crooked. The bottom is angled way towards the left-when I mentioned this to him in a follow up visit, he told me that he pierced it that way to avoid splitting my webbing under my tongue. Now that's fine, but I would've appreciated a heads-up. In that case, I would've asked him to place the piercing further up...and STRAIGHT. It's actually really bothering me that it's crooked, so I'm thinking about getting it re-pierced....
I didn't note this in my earlier review, but one of my nipple piercings (done by Evan), is also off center. It was that way at the time of the piercing-it didn't migrate or heal that way. That's really the only complaint I'd have about this studio...the people are always really nice, the studio is pristine, and I like their jewelry (internally threaded) selection.
Went here to get my nose re-pierced (for the third time in 10 years -- ack!) in June. Â I waited until it was fully healed to finish this review, and I'm thrilled.
First, they were quick, prompt and courteous, which is more than I can say about the first two places I got this piercing done. Mark took his time chatting with hub and me and giving me clear, no-nonsense cleaning instructions. Gave me a hoop after two other piercers told me that it was "impossible" to start with a hoop. Placement is perfect.
And -- important for people like me -- the ambience of the place is very inviting. I've been to a few shops where I felt like they were trying to intimidate me for not being sufficiently ... I don't know. Male? Over-pierced? Tatted up? Angry? Who knows? Enigma is comfortable. Jewelry is beautiful. And the service was genuinely great. 'Nuff said.
Me and My brother have gone to Enigma for all of our piercings now.
Every time we always get the best (and honest) advice on gauges of our piercings and placement, had to talk bro out of some anchors.
Have had knowledgeable piercers that don't get offended when you accidentally yell in their faces during a session or call with healing questions.
Oh and if you mention yelp they'll give you 10% off of jewelry.
Anyone who gives Enigma less than 5 stars is crazy!!
This places was recommended to me by quite a few friends, so i decided Enigma was where I wanted to get my tragus pierced. I went with a couple of friends, one of which also pierced her tragus. I was kind of nervous, but the girl (I wish I knew her name) was so patient and kind, and completely made us feel welcome. Evan Webb is the BEST!! My friends and I fell in love with him, he is so sweet and hilarious. He was joking around with us the entire time, it was way more fun than anything else. This place is awesome, that's all I can say..
This place is pretty sweet. It feels very homey inside and the employees have always been polite to me. Â Maybe not overly sweet, but still, kind. Â I had my nose pierced somewhere else and it kept getting infected and swollen and all weird, eventually I had to take it out. Â I went to Enigma to get it redone and they did a wonderful job. Â I have had it over a year now, no issues! The guy was very nice and calm and showed me that he was opening a brand new needle and gave me a countdown and everything. Â He was even nice enough to warn me that it would hurt extra since we might hit scar tissue. It did! It hurt pretty bad, but not because of the piercer, at all. Â Again, he was awesome. Â My eyes watered and he didn't pay any mind to it. Â
I went back again a few months ago, wanting my belly button done. Â I'm not fat, but I am not a twig either. Â The guy (the lighter haired guy with the eyebrow tats) was really kind in telling me that I didn't have the right skin at the top of my belly button to get it pierced. Â He said he would still do it but that my body would reject the piercing after a few months. Â He was really kind and made sure to let me know weight had nothing to do with it. Â Being a woman, it would be easy to feel shitty in that situation but he was wonderful about it. Â
Their jewelry selection is beautiful and I have been considering stretching my ears, if I do, I will absolutely go to Enigma.
My daughter wanted to get her rook pierced while we were here for vacation and discovered this place. At first I felt iffy about the whole thing but we started talking I felt at ease. They answered all my questions and were friendly and professional.
After my daughter got her piercing she told me it was fast and that it didn't hurt. Then my other daughter decided that she wanted her rook pierced as well. The staff was very patient with my two daughters while they were arguing about what ear she should get.
Overall the whole experience was very pleasant and I am so glad that we chose this studio.
This place was recommended to my by a tattoo shop that doesn't carry much jewelry.
When I walked in, Evan greeted me and patiently waited as I described my dilemma: I had lost the ball on my jewelry. I asked if he could sell me just the missing part, half expecting him to tall me that I'd have to purchase a whole new piece. He then sized my jewelry (something the shop in Dallas couldn't do), and then found the ball that matched. WELL DONE. Total cost: less than $17.
Also I'd like to mention that he gently asked me not to place my jewelry on the glass counter and handed me an alcohol wipe to clean my hands. Very professional and sanitary. This place is the real deal.
Went there again with past Saturday to get my long awaited conch piercing as a present for my graduation from UCSD.
Different piercer this time, it was a new guy name See Jay, but he was super chill and very friendly. Made the process very smooth and was constantly checking to make sure that I was okay.
I will continue to come here and bring my friends here!
I wanted a cartilage piercing so my friend recommended Enigma because she had a nose piercing done here. I read some reviews on Yelp and they were very helpful. I am really terrified of needles but I have a couple of tattoos (tattoos feels worse than a simple cartilage piercing).
I went into the shop and Mark welcomed me, providing SUPERB customer service (usually other shops would not care or initiate any conversation at all) but he was very friendly. He showed me the earring pieces and suggested me his opinion that he thought was best, which were the hoops rather than studs because hoops are cheaper. I also told him that I have a fear of needles but he reassured me and told me not to worry because everyone does.
While I filled out some paperwork and presented my ID, he CAREFULLY explained what he was going to do step by step. Then he made me feel comfortable and was really patient saying that he won't pierce it until I'm ready. He also added that the pain is just for a second (it's true!), told me to breathe in and out, (which really helps to distract you from the piercing because all you are worrying about doing is breathing), then BAM! it was all done! The pain felt like a small pinch, nothing to worry about. Just BREATHE because it works, once your done, you'll think that it wasn't even that bad. So I say, Go for it! There's nothing to be worried about.
Sanitation was very important to Mark and he made you feel comfortable, being really understandable and patient. The whole thing cost me like $32.00 included the student dollar coupon and added a $5.00 for Mark's excellent service. I'm expecting to come here for a 2nd piercing!
Describe Mark in one word: Chill! - "His chillness and vibe does not make you feel nervous at all, you actually get relaxed and less fretful when you're talking to him"
Wow, they are really awesome.
I am getting married in 3 months and my future mother-in-law has never gotten a piercing. She decided that she wanted to get her ears pierced and wear some beautiful new earrings to the wedding...at 66 years old! I brought her here because they seemed to be really hygienic and know their stuff...and they did! Mark..was...AWESOME. He made her feel comfortable and explained everything to her and she sailed through the experience like a champ!
From the moment we stepped in to walking out the door, it was a really safe, pleasant experience. I can't thank Enigma (and Mark!) enough for making this big step so comfortable for such a wonderful lady!
**I posted a pic, so check out photo #63 if you want to see Mark in action**
they are SO SO SO freaking nice. The person taking care of the paperwork and stuff was really nice.
The piercer seemed extremely careful in all aspects. He wanted to make sure I wasn't doing this on some kind of whim. I was terrified because I had heard conch piercings were extremely painful. He told me they were but the actual piercing is so fast that it takes more time for the pain to register. And in case you wanted to know, my conch piercing didn't hurt at all. It was very quick and it felt like a pinch to me. So go to Enigma! They're really nice and best of all, it's clean!
Again, a five star experience!! Â I have been wanting to get my rook pierced and I finally got the nerve up today. Â Mark was very thorough and took the time to make sure placement was right. Â He entertained my many questions and made sure I was ready. Â Needless to say, I am VERY happy with my new piercing.
If you are considering a piercing, DO NOT watch youtube...it will only make you nervous. I am very guilty of "researching" on youtube and blogs and it painted a very painful, inaccurate picture. Just come into Enigma and let the pros do their magic!
TL;DR?! Great place; a bit pricey, but it's worth the extra bucks; ouchies; highly recommend.
M (Saturday, some odd time past midnight): Hey, E, let's pierce our ears tomorrow.
E: Uh, tomorrow?!...Hokay!
And that's how we found ourselves in front of Enigma to get my cartilage pierced and her industrial pierced Saturday afternoon...I nearly missed the spot because it seriously looks just like a regular, cute, old house, by the way.
I don't know the guys who helped us and now I can't praise them for their services. Poo. When my friend wanted to get her industrial pierced, they told her that it might not be the best choice for her because of the shape of her ear. Now, that's honesty. So, she opted for second ear lobe piercings instead. We signed some papers that said that we will take responsibility of taking care of our piercings and that we won't blame Enigma and such. They know their stuff and were informative about the piercing and piercing location and were very sanitary (and that's coming from someone who goes through a box of gloves during her hospital shift...).
M got her ear lobes pierced and they took quite some time because she mentioned she wanted to get triple ear lobe piercings in the future, so they played around with the location of the piercings. However, for mine he suggested a spot and said some fancy piercing words, so I just agreed and that was that.
Honestly, I was so nervous about my piercing because I'm scared of needles, but after donating my blood multiple times, I think cartilage piercing has the same pain level as donating your blood. By the time the guy was measuring where to place the needle, I already thought he stuck the needle in. Talk about adrenaline rush messing with your head. When he went around to put the hoop in, that hurt. A lot. When my apartmentmates got their cartilage piercings done here, they said that they heard a crunch of their bones, but I didn't hear a thing. Don't know what they're talking about.
$20 for piercing, $15 for the hoop = $35 plus tax and tip. My other friends got them for $10 at some other place, but it got infected, so I would rather pay the extra bucks and lower the chances of infection, ya know? All in all, you go in, and get out within an hour or so.
Oh, and walk-ins only. No appointments.
Just make sure to buy your gallon of distilled water (~$1) and non-iodized sea salt (~$1) and soak your piercing every day!
Enigma's studio is in what I imagine use to be some grandma's house. She baked cookies there and had a garden with 4 cats and bird feeder...
Now, the front room houses jewelry cases full of jewelry of all types. The piercing room (in the back) feels like a lot like a doctors office with a medical bench and a bio-hazard waste bucket, but that's just a sign of how clean the place is. (and that's a GOOD thing)
Marissa at the front helped me with the paperwork as the piercer, Mark, sterilized the jewelry. Â Mark was really knowledgeable. He talked me through the entire process and made me feel really relaxed from start to finish.
Not only was the piercing a lot less painful than I anticipated, I was done before I had even realized I had started. Which, considering I got two piercings that day, is even more remarkable.
Before you leave you'll get a care sheet. Be sure to read it. No matter how fantastic you think your body is at healing, or what you've heard otherwise, there's a reason "Professional" is in the name.
Take it from me, that friend of a friend that offered to pierce your (insert body part here) because, "don't worry, I did my own eye brow," isn't your wisest choice.
If you're going to do it, do it right. Do it at Enigma.
Maybe I am not like all dads. Â I let my daughter get her first piercing here about 2 years ago when she was 15, in her nose.
Here is how I look at it. Â She is an awesome kid, does great in school, cares about other people, and just a joy. Â If she wants to pierce here ear, then fine with me.
Fast forward to last night. Â We went to Enigma and the owner Didier was there just by luck. Â I got my daughter 3 piercings on the top of her ear. Â No idea why she would want that, but hey, she deserved it. Â I even made her earn them by doing some things with grades, etc....
As a dad, I am overly protective of my teenage daughter, but I never have any worries about Enigma. Â This is the most professional, caring and awesome business for piercing I have ever come across.
Didier took more than double the time it probably would have taken but he wanted to go slow and make sure the piercings were done correctly. What an awesome place. I spoke to Didier afterwords since I also own a business that is on Yelp http://www.prioritymovin… and we spoke about how Yelp can be good and bad.
We are both tired of the filter review process when we know it is a legitimate real customer.
However, for this review I want to make sure Enigma gets it's fair due. Â They are awesome and when you are trusting someone to poke holes in your teenage daughter, you want to go with the best of the best.
Thank you fellow Yelpers!!!!
I am so glad that I came here to get my Nostril pierced. Â I had done it before at another location, however, I decided not to go there again.
We were greeted by the lovely young lady behind the counter and she was very friendly and very helpful. Â I knew we would be there for at least 30 minutes to 45 minutes because there was a customer ahead of us. (Thanks Yelpers for that tip). Â
I was next and Mark was the wonderful person that told me step by step what we were going to do and everything that he was going to do to make my visit enjoyable. Â He was so friendly and so patient with my questions. Â Within 5 minutes, I was done. Â He was very good about the after care when I leave there. Â
This place was an awesome experience....
Professional and exceptionally clean! I dont think i'll refer anyone elsewhere to get their piercings done. I would give this place 10 stars if i could.
I got my nostril pierced and Mark was the name of the guy who helped me. He's awesome! I was nervous since it was my first facial piercing and he was very, very patient with me. He was honest about the pain factor and told me what to expect; I was really grateful for that since i was able to prepare myself. The process was quick and almost painless ;) and i love my piercing! My cousin also got her dermal that same day and he offered her the same level of awesome service.
A year later we came back and this time my sister wanted to get more piercings on her ears. We were lucky enough to get Mark again and nothing has changed. He was patient, honest, and very professional. SO appreciated because my little sister is a wimp (haha) and he completely put her at ease. Her new ear piercings are adorable and she absolutely loves them! =)
Enigma deserves all the great reviews. They have awesome people who work there and are genuinely passionate about what they do. The price, to be honest, is a little expensive compared to other places. But, c'mon, you're paying for the quality here so, trust me, you wont regret it.
Great place for piercings that every other tattoo and piercing place we went into that day mentioned. They weren't afraid to recommend this place as the go to place.
They didn't have as much gold jewelry as I wanted and nothing in white gold. I was looking for a white gold naval piece and they lacked that and their other gold was over priced.....I think this place is very professional though and they had everything else you could possibly want from a peircing only place.
When I had my nosed pierced at Saint Sabrina's in Minneapolis, MN, I asked them who they recommend for the San Diego area and Enigma was their suggestion. Â
I haven't had any piercings done here, only purchased jewelry. Â Both times I purchased jewelry, they offered to put it in for me - which I took them up on. Â
If I were to get another piercing, this would be my first choice. Â High quality jewelry, professional piercers. Â You just can't go wrong here.
This is a review for about 1 year ago. Stumbled across this and reminded me that I should yelp it. The staff was super friendly and the woman that did my piercing was a pro.
Quick, fast, and painless for the most part for my lip ring. Go here for a pro job without getting ripped off. I think most of the other parlors in PB are pretty pricey.
6 years ago I got my nostril pierced on a whim, just like those 2 damn tattoos! I swear, the legal age for getting a tattoo should really be 25 so 18 year olds don't go running out for a generic tramp stamp the day of their 18th birthday. At least piercings are less permanent as my nostril piercing came out 1 year later. I took it out because I got sick of always having to change the stud, mostly because I used to only get the cheap jewelry.
Last year, I decided that I wanted to repierce my nostril (because it was pretty darn cute if I do say so myself!). I searched all over Yelp and found Enigma right down the street from where I lived at the time! I parked in the back lot and as I was walking in the shop, I was feeling a little freaked out. Even though I had been pierced before, I was still anxious. There were tons of freaky body jewelry in cases in this little shop. Â I looked for the little shiny ones and told the guy that's what I wanted in my nose. Â The guy was smart enough to warn me that I chose a pretty big stud and suggested a smaller one. Â He was knowledgeable, friendly, and laid back. Â I immediately felt at ease. Â
He told me it would be a couple of minutes while he set up so I took a seat and did some deep breathing to calm my nerves. Â When he called me back, the room looked very sterile and clean, yet I still felt comfortable. He opened everything in front of me and explained everything to me step-by-step. Â He made a mark over my last hole and made me double check in the mirror. Â The whole process was quick, easy, and painless (for the most part!). My nose was bleeding a lot, but he assured me that it was normal. Â He gave me instructions for after-care that I was pleasantly surprised by. Enigma doesn't try to sell you on expensive products, but instead suggests a more natural and inexpensive method of aftercare which includes distilled water and sea salt.
It's been over a year since I got repierced and I have not had the urge to take it out yet. I love my piercing and I am still using the original stud. If I ever decide to pierce anything else, I will definitely go back to Enigma, even though it's not just down the street anymore.
I was considering getting my antibrow pierced 2 years ago and didn't know where to go. Â After polling some of my more shiny friends, I went here and got it done.
It was a small little shop with super professional and laid back people.
They cleaned my jewelry a couple of times in the autoclave to be perfectly sure it was free of any germs.
They explained thoroughly about each piercing I was getting... the process and what I'd need to do to clean it. Â (I also got my lip done at the time and nearly got a monroe).
"You're getting pierced to AC/ DC!" my piercer said.
Very very rad people there. Â The piercer I had was in from out of town helping out & shot pictures of me after it was done.
All in all an awesome experience, that I'm bound to repeat the next time I go home.
Hood piercing by Autumn! She's cute, she has the soothing temperament I needed, and she's professional. Â Answered all of my questions-no nonsense. Â
Clean studio, cool tribal decor, beautiful selection of jewelry, and nice artsy magazines while you wait (short wait). Â
Would recommend to anybody...except uncool, mean people.
I have had several piercings done here. All the people who work here are EXCEPTIONALLY professional, knowledgeable, and personable. They can help you pick out the right size shape and style of jewelry for whatever kind of piercing you want. If I could keep my piercings in, then I would be in here more regularly. I actually miss the people who run this joint. Didier and Matt, I say hello!
This is the best piercing spot in the city.
When someone asks me where to go for a piercing I tell them to head here. Unfortunately, that has only happened to me like...uh...twice so thank goodness for Yelp!
On separate trips for myself or with friends I have had the opportunity to talk with Didier, Corey, and Matt who are all kickass. They are all very knowledgeable, nice, and good at what they do.
Allz I'm saying is that for the best piercing experience you can get in San Diego you should go to this place. I'm shaking my head as I think about my first piercing at some poorly put-together shop further down Garnet that also sold stripper clothes. Don't make my mistake. Go to someone who really cares about piercing culture and about their customers. Go see someone at Enigma.
This is a very nice piercing shop.
Went with a friend to have the bottom of her belly button pierced and to have some jewelry changed and they could not have been more helpful, informative or professional.
Autumn was our piercer and she was stern about her job but very friendly. She had great answers for all our questions and made the experience very nice. She is also very clean in her practices and procedures. And she wasnt an crappy to us because my friend was bein a dork and freakin out and because I ask the dumbest shit ever.
Their prices on jewelry are very high but you pay for the quality and amount of expertise and cleanliness.
Will be returning for sure.
One of my suitemates got her lip pierced here. Me? I came along for emotional support and to purchase some body jewelry for my own purposes.
Summary: Clean, friendly environment. Soothing piercing staff. Not outrageously priced.
Not cheap either though.
You'll see me here if I ever find myself itching for another piercing. It's unlikely... but you never know. I'll update this review if and when I ever come back for lucky number 10 :)
It's actually through this place that I got a recommendation for Guru Tattoo. WOOT! (btw, that was an awesome recommendation!)
If you're a tween, irrational and/or cheap you will go to Claire's to get your belly button pierced by an inexperienced employee with a gun and get the gnarliest infection.
If you are a grown-up, rational serious being who cares about her body and body modifications like yours truly, you will go to Enigma and pay the extra cash for a good, professional, infection-free piercing done with one of those bigass needles.
(There's a whole scene about this in Pulp Fiction).
I got my lip done by Matt who was a total perfectionist and serious about his job (please give him fatty tips). I never had infection issues and all I had to do was rinse with warm water and sea salt. The quality and options for jewelry are off the charts!
I wish I had extra body parts, just so I could come here and get them pierced by these gentlemen (and lady).
Matt is my favorite - he was my piercer when I got my navel done as a wayward teen...But I concede that everyone is great. The jewelry here is not cheap, but in return you get jewelry that is...not cheap. Really, you don't want rusty metal hanging out of your body anyway. They also have a huge selection of plugs of all materials and sizes.
Be sure to flip through their photography book for new ideas, but watch out for the pierced hoo-haas, woo-hoos, and shlongalongadingdongs.
Do yourself a favor, toss your cheap jewelry out the window, come here, buy some quality stuff, and maybe get a new hole or two. Yes, perhaps even in your shlongalongadingdong.
