My mom and I decided we wanted to get matching tattoos. I have to admit I felt a little awkward about taking my mom to a "tattoo parlor" - kind of like going to a movie with your mom and there's lots of sex in it....just kind of weird.

Anyway, Jay was super nice and very professional. His shop looks edgy enough that you feel like you're doing something a little wild but not so much that you're embarrassed to be there with your mother! So ya, his place is clean (as in sterilized properly!), interesting, and he knows how to act.

And now for the important part - the tattoo! Well, this was my first tattoo so I don't have any frame of reference but it was a great experience working with Jay. I contacted him a few weeks in advance with a design and some basic, lame questions (we don't live in the area but knew we would be in town on a particular date). He was super professional and helpful, and we made an appointment. When we showed up he was there and ready for us. He had taken my design I showed him and had it all ready, and was even understanding when I told him I had made some changes to it. He worked in the changes without a hassle and definitely improved on the design, which I didn't even realize how much until I got home that night and looked at it closely. It was my design, only way better!!

Well, tattoos do hurt....I went first and as soon as he did the first little part I thought, "how am I going to let my 71 year old mother do this to herself?!" and I suggested she run down to the liquor store! Well, Jay even had wine - red wine - because my mother couldn't bring herself to buy Thunderbird, which was all they had at the store.

We were completely confident in Jay's ability to do a clean, professional job. I highly recommend Jay and his place. If you want a biker/gangster/not sure if he's even sober kind of tattoo place, don't go here. But if you happen to be out on an adventure with your mother, DEFINITELY this is your place! Thanks, Jay, for accommodating us.

OH, and he's adorable! But that's just icing.

Got a piece done by Jay today and it came out awesome. I came in with a design I found and he sketched out a beautiful piece from it. He was completely patient with me considering all the concerns I had and made sure I got what I wanted. My tattoo came out way better that I expected.

He plays loud great music and his space is a chill environment, especially if you have guests with you. I definitely would recommend him for any piece and will be a repeat customer some time in the future for my next piece.

Jay rocked this. I came to him with a concept, he ran with it till it was realized. Today we're finishing it.

I went there to get the top of my ear pierced-Jay took  time to figure out good placement  and ended up  angling  it slightly  which turned out to be a great idea...
It was painless nearly to my surprise and Ive followed his instructions for cleaning
( sea salt and warm water with a Q tip) and after the initial night when it was a little sore,Its healing very quickly.
Very very reasonable, very clean, looks like he was a true artist tattoo wise..he's lovely guy who did a wonderful professional job...
    Thanks Jay!

Went on a little spontaneous trip this past Tuesday. Yes, I know.. a bit late, but this place left an imprint in my faulty memory so it was indeed more than worthy of a review.

Found this place on yelp with great reviews so i decided to go for it. It was a little hard to find, but im sure glad i came to the right place! The building might look a bit shady from outside, but FEAR NOT! my friends.. I say GO GO GO! Got my cartilage done for only $35 + 5 for the jewelry. So CHEAP for a piercing done right! Cant say it wasnt painful, but it was worth every dollar. Used to pay 75+ for piercings at other tattoo parlors. This place is a diamond in the rough. Very nice guy with great taste in music!

Will DEFINITELY make another visit for another one.. its becoming an addiction.

*NOTE: He charges 3% on all card transactions & you provide for your own aftercare (non-iodized sea salt / antibacterial soap, etc.)

Awesome dude. I wanted to get my conch pierced so I called this place at around 6 and he picked up saying they were still open and he had just finished up with a client. I went there and it's a small little room but don't judge a book by its cover. The dude was really nice, welcoming and clean. When placing the dot mark on my ear, I was being a little picky with the spot, but he was very patient and still kind, which is rare in most places. The piercing was $40 which includes jewelry plus $5 if you get a stud with a piece of jewel on it. I'm sure he's great with tattoos too. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND if you want something pierced.

Guy doesn't stand behind his work. If ur piercing jewelry falls apart from being shoddy, u'll have to buy another one from him. That is if u can get a hold of him, since he's too busy getting high all the time. One wonders how he keeps his shop open.

The shop is like a clean surfing bungalow.  The walls are a lovely minty shade, and it is very pleasant to be there. Jayson is the owner and works solo.

I brought in two pictures of an artichoke, neither were quite right but they were both close to what I wanted.  Jayson asked what I did and didn't like about each and then drew something that got the best of both images.

Jayson is FAST, which is great because it hurts.  Unless you are into slow hurt. He also was cool with my friend and me bringing her dog and my baby.

The price was very reasonable. I love my tattoo and get many compliments on it.

Jayson is an awesome artist with integrity that is shown from the time you sit in the Louie V Chair until completed.  Small quaint, excellent music, outstanding art work and you feel like family.  Thanks for all my work and looking forward to finishing my sleeve.

Got my second tattoo from this place months ago, and I love it, though I don't love it as much as my third one. still love it

Jay was awesome, he took me last minute and helped me,
4 stars because he was just really nice, and welcoming, but one star less because he could have helped me more with a better font or design for it.

But overall great experience, best out of the 3 times i got tatted.

I went to Jayson to get my ears pierced.  I had my ears pierced before but they were halfway closed.  I wanted to go to someone who would be more precise than those places that use earring guns.  He was very precise and took great care that everything was thoroughly disinfected.  He also gave great advice for after care.  Make your own saltwater as a cleaning solution with sea salt.  I used that and for the most part it worked well but since they were piercings that needed to be re-opened, they were taking longer to heal.  He recommended Bactine and that did the trick.  I put the Bactine in a shotglass and soaked my earlobes in them.  It worked very well.  Thanks, Jayson!

Jayson gives tattoos with happy endings!

Let me explain, let me explain!  :)

I got a lotus tattoo-- my first--  from a "renown" artist back in April and I was NOT happy, very far from happy, and hated ever getting a tattoo.

Then along came Jayson.  A few weeks ago he touched up my lotus, added color and made it worth looking at .  I was so impressed with his work that I  went back for more.  He was patient with me as I kept sending him pics almost every day for a week of what I was thinking of getting.  I'm not artistic so it's hard to describe and ask for what I want.

Finally, last Sunday, I went to his shop.  We talked about the design, he sketched it out on my back, and he went to work.  Getting poked by him was fun.  We chatted, he sang out loud to the music he was playing, and he did an awesome job.  He added the lily pad and the water ripples.  It wasn't what I expected: it was a hell of a lot better!  What happier ending can I want?  (Ok, he is very sexy, so I suppose there could be a happier ending, but that's not tattoo business anymore...)

What I liked best is his integrity: he takes seriously the fact that you're putting your skin into his hands.  I felt vulnerable when I was first tatted and was disappointed.  I took a risk with Jayson and he respected how I felt about letting someone mark me for life.  I felt connected and this made the experience easier; I felt like a virgin, touched for the very first time...

If you're a tattoo virgin I highly recommend Jayson to pop your cherry!

I've been looking for a good tattoo artist to help me on my Filipino tribal art tattoo.  After many months of searching for one in the OC where I live a great friend of mine's recommended Jay. He said that Jay was awesome and that I would not be disappointed. My friend was 100% right.

I designed my tattoo, but Jay took it and brought it to life like I never could imagine. He made a piece of coal into a diamond.  I am so happy and excited about his work and look forward to working with him in the near future.

I will continue to go to Jay and suffer the LA traffic getting there because he's that good.

Jay thanks again for the great job and I looking forward to enhancing this wonderful piece of art you help create for me!

I went to get a tattoo by Jayson, he was recommended by a good friend of mine, First I have to say the studio is awesome! We started talking about the tattoos I wanted to get done, and Jayson got what I wanted right away, and he started sketching and doing his thing. very professional, very meticulous, i felt comfortable right away seeing how he made this project  like if it was a tattoo for him. and like I expected every change he suggested to be made it was for the greater good when it was all done and finish my tattoos looked amazing, way better than what I had in mind. Thank u sooo much for taking your time and energy into it. Will be back for more , my back is next .

I just got at tattoo started last night with Jay at Life Art. Jay took my idea, made it fit great where I wanted it, and it looks better than the art I gave him to start with. I'm so impressed with his professionalism, the shop and his artistry. Jay took the time to discuss what I wanted and really listened. I've had a great experience so far and am looking forward to finishing up my work. I can't wait to show it off to my friends. Before you go to a trendy boutique, check out Jay and Life Art, it's worth it!! Thanks Jay!

I just got my fourth piece from Jay done last week, so that says alot, because I am super picky about my ink.  Jay's work is creative and innovative.  His true artistry transforms dull pics into the highest form of body art.  Unlike alot of other artists that have become jaded by the recent rise in popularity of the tattoo industry, Jay remains humble and is amazing when it comes to working with your needs.  Two of the most profound characteristics of a true artist, are natural talent and honesty, Jay possesses both.  Jay is an amazing artist and not only does he beautify our bodies he's helping to keep our environment  beautiful by using eco-friendly products.  I can't speak highly enough of him and his work.
