No arrogance here. Â They were actually really kind and willing to see me on super short notice. Â I had Jose tatttoo me (my jaw) and we hit it off really well. Â My only complaint, was just how damn high the price was. Â I'm covered in tattoos. Â Head (literally) to toe and have never dropped 5 bills on 7 simple letters in script before (or again). Â Whatever though, it was a part of the experience. Â If you're not looking at paying huge prices though, I'd say skip the tattoos in South Beach all together.
Review Source:Great experienc with Darren and the guy with cheech on his ass! Â Love my new tat, and loved the lack of attitude that we got from the moment we walked in until we left. Â Got three tattoos at Salvation Tatoo / First Class Tattoo, and the staff couldn't have been more obnoxious. Â Never make that mistake again. Â if I remember their names, I'll post them so you can avoid this cesspool.
Review Source:I forgot these guys were here until I saw it pop up on Foursquare. I had been wanting to get a tattoo while on vacation in Miami Beach but didn't make any solid plans. After walking around for a while I decided to do it. We walked it an I was able to get it done within the hour. I thought there would be a crazy line but it wasn't too bad. There were three guys getting finished up on their tatts and another guy ahead of me.
So I told them I wanted a 4 letter word in script on the inside of my left wrist. No problem, so I waited while the artist drew the design and paid ahead of time. It cost a bit more than I've paid in Chicago but I didn't care. I was committed to doing it and because they have a reputation to maintain I knew it was worth the price. After going back and forth on the design a few times it was time to go to the chair.
I really appreciated their advice and I took it. I originally wanted the word to be left to right when I look at my wrist but he said the industry standard is to have it "upside" down to the owner and left to right to others when I hold it out. I never thought about it this way and if I were to get a tattoo on my upper arm it would of course be upside down to me but normal to everyone else looking at it. And while they would have done it anyway I wanted it, I know I had it done the right way.
It didn't take very long at all and hurt much less than the two tattoos I have on the back of my neck. I am disappointed I didn't get the artist's name (looking at other Yelp pictures I think it was Jose who did my wrist) or his card but he was laid back and awesome. They let my sister come sit on the couch near the chairs so we could all talk together. He also gave us some restaurant recommendations for Pubbelly and a Cuban Place on 16th.
Overall it was a great experience and I'm glad I went here over any of the other shops on Washington.
The tattoos are amazing. Yes, they are expensive but it's on you for the rest of your life so why bargain shop? Â I couldn't have asked for a better tattoo, it was beyond my expectations. All the staff is very nice and polite. Â Tourists do come in and out the whole time, I'm not sure how they put up with it sometimes. Â You need to make an appointment for the main artists from the Miami Ink show. Â If you want a great tattoo and a great experience then go here.
Review Source:I traveled here with a friend a few years ago specifically to be tattooed here. Â This was when the TLC show was insanely popular, I really wanted an Ami tattoo. Â So we booked our trip only to find out that you could only be tattooed by the people on the show if you applied to be on the show. Â What a crock. Â Any way, we still went, still got tattooed, and I am super glad. Â This might be my favorite tattoo.
We were greeted by the shop manager and he put our names on the waiting list. Â My friend and I were lucky enough to get the last two appointments of the day. Â My two and a half hour long tattoo and her nearly three hour tattoo were in painful places, but they did a great job of powering through and knowing when we needed a break. Â Both our tattooers took our descriptions and brought them to another level of awesome, going way above and beyond our expectations. Â We left the building after 12:30pm (and nearly $1,500 poorer, ouch, but worth it) and wandered back to our hotel (only 1.5 blocks away) to sleep the night away.
They did such a wonderful job that I would go here again if I happened to be in South Beach at the time. Â I wouldn't travel there specifically for that reason though, mostly because I found South Beach to be kinda icky, not a place I would intentionally go back to on my dime.
Great staff, great memory, great tattoo...can't ask for much more.
Walked in wanting a tatt and walked out with none but it was worth it to at least be there to know from prices and how its really like compared to the tv show.
They were indeed friendly but pricing is not worth it to me. I have seen pieces that were in much great detail for half the price. This place is truly just for its name - overrated!!!
I decided to get some ink done here. Knowing I was going to Miami I picked out a design before my trip and was flexible with letting the artist do their thing as well.
Now you need to go into this place with conviction and confidence. Not like some lame tourist looking through the books and drool over the fact that this place was featured on TV. I walked in with a friend who had just gotten her tattoo done at another place up the street. When you come here you do have to pay...they have a $200 minimum so you might as well make it worth their time and your $$.
Most of the artists on the show take appointments now but for the most part they take walk-ins or you can walk in and request your artist and they will tell you how long you need to wait. I was pretty comfortable with going with the first available artist.
After about a 40 min wait in the waiting area watching the dozens of people stream in and out taking pictures and watching some familiar faces from the TV show make their way thru the shop it was finally my turn. Morgwn Pennypacker was my artist, I gave him my design but let him know I was flexible and we worked it. I got the design (mirror image) on the tops of both feet. This guy was good and quick.
To date this is the best healed tattoos I have had done, quality, clean location, workmanship and artistry. Sure you may pay a bit more but you get a quality experience.
Art costs money....enough said. Â This was my most expensive tattoo, however, it still looks amazing! Â We were down in miami for the boat show three years ago. Â Prior to going I did the research to find out when they opened, etc. Â We got to the shop about an hour before they opened and we were third in line. Â As soon as the doors opened, they immediately started figuring out what people wanted. Â Almost everyone in front of us were just there to see the shop. Â I told them what I wanted and then took a seat while my tattoo got drawn up. Â The shop was clean and everything was sterile. Â I figured the cost of the tattoo would be atleast double what it was back home and i was right. Â
This tattoo healed quicker than any i have had done previously. Â My tattoo was done on my foot and I didnt have hardly any swelling compared to what it was like after my opposite foot. Â I believe alot of it has to do with the experience of the artist. Â Wayne was great! Â Yogi came in while i was getting tattooed. Â I have some great pictures of him watching my tattoo being done.
We so wanted to get a re-do, re-vamp, enhancement of an existing tattoo. Sent them an email explaining exactly what was needed so that we could get an appointment and were told just show up.
Great we drive to SoBe only to find out that they will not rework an existing tat because of intellectual property in other words they won't mess with someone elses artwork.
Okay that 's fine, however they should have let customer's know. Have the rules of the road posted on your web site or take the time to read the emails.
Later.
Oh wow, I forgot about this place.
Cramped, packed, overrated.
After fighting with my best friend who came down from Canada over how stupid of a decision getting a tattoo actually was, she made her decision and guess where she chose to do it?
We called ahead and listened to the instructions on the phone. We ended up going on a weekday.
When we got there, we looked though a million books. She wanted a dragon fly, none of the books happened to have one.
They told us to wait ONE HOUR while they "sketched something up."
We went to a smoothie shop next door and sat there for a bit. Â We came back and saw the sketch. It was two simple 1'' dragon flies. Okay, whatever, she was excited.
We signed a zillion release forms and they let her see the blueprint after reducing the size.
They put it on the back of her neck. "This will cost you $350" Our jaw dropped to the ground.
(And this was back when $350 was not recession-based $350, because now $350 is like saying "give me $350, your arm, your leg, your mortgage payment, your car, that ring you're wearing, your dog, you're money for lunch..."
Congratulations, you're getting bullied by a 45-year-old man.
That's the other thing... where are all these people that come out in the show???!??!
We had some kid, a man with a donkey on his neck, and some old guy. Woopdiedoo.
If I wanted to get ripped of by an amateur tattoo artist, I could have gone to any of the other five million tattoo shops in SOBE.
Allright, I lent her the money, because she only had $150 and paid with my credit card... OH, that probably hurt more than the tattoo itself.
When It was over, I suppose they did an okay job... For two sticks and four oval "wings."
Ugh. I felt so ripped off. I'm glad I finally got to rant about this.
The only up-side to coming here is that they are more careful than most on the use of the equipment because a lawsuit for a transmitted disease can be HUGE.
if you're going to miami ink because you're hoping to get some ink done by the artists on the tv show (i.e. ami, garver, or nunez) then you will definitely be disappointed... all the artists working there are not the ones you see on tv... the studio has some pretty crazy lighting because obviously it was set up for tv filming... i got a piece done there and it is pretty pricey... i guess you have to factor in that it is south beach and it is miami ink... there are better spots to get ink in miami with good artists who charge a lot less, like tattoos by lou in kendall or aaa in homestead... the piece i got there was decent... h-100...
Review Source:crazy hell expensive but i didn't get an infection and it wasn't red so I is a happy girl. staff friendly. place is cool, my lil tat doesn't compare to the beautiful artwork on the guy next to me. Â Very touristy though and you will be have your pic taken by strangers as they work on you.
Review Source:First of all, I just wanted to note that most of the negative reviews seem to be from people who have not gotten tattooed here. Â Why give them a crappy review if you've never even patronized the place? Â Anyway, rant over.
I love the show and so when I went on Spring Break with some of my girls from college, I knew I wanted a tattoo at Miami Ink.
CALL AHEAD because they do not take appointments, but the message on the phone is very helpful. Â You can only go after a certain time because they are filming during the day. Â None of the artists on the show will do your tattoo - I was told they only tattoo for the show.
That being said, they did an INCREDIBLE job. Â My tattoo is absolutely gorgeous. Â Thanks to James for a beautiful work of art! Â This was my first color piece, which I was nervous about getting just right. Â I've had so many compliments on this tattoo - the shading on it is immaculate. Â
I came in knowing what I wanted, but was requesting a custom piece, seeing as I can't draw. Â I told them what I wanted, told me to come back in like 2 hours (shop was pretty full) and so my friends and I walked around nearby Espanola Way for a little while. Â I came back, and my drawing was complete, and it was exactly what I wanted.
The prices are pretty steep ($200 minimum) and I don't really care to share how much I spent on this beauty. Â But for me, it was worth it. Â I now have a permanent souvenir from Miami that I absolutely love, and the quality (and the experience!) was worth every penny.
Plus, Ami James was hanging around and I got to meet him! Â Crush alert!
This place is so much smaller then on tv. The staff is a little reluctant to give information on the actual "celebrity" artists. If you want to get a tattoo by one of the stars, make sure you call ahead of time because they may be on hiatus. No appointments are available...they're all walk in only. I wanted to get a tatt from Chris Garver but he won't be back until late August but I was glad I got to see the shop.
Review Source:This is the famous Miami tattoo shop featured on TLC with its eccentric tattoo artists and clientele. Its easy to overlook on Washington Ave. as the big  neon block sign above their shop says simply, "TATTOO." And it looks ALOT smaller in reality then it does on the show. I've seen people line up here in groups but the reality-tv crew only tapes them at certain times. I walked by here on my way to go shopping and saw Ami James and Yoji just chilling out for a smoke break outside their store. No, I didn't ask for their autograph (it was bad enough the couple ahead of us asked for a cellphone photo), but I did gawk a little.
I think their work speaks for themselves on the show.
