Words can not express how happy I am for having my first ink experience at Sugar City Tattoo. My friend researched this place for me and highly recommended I see Monica to have my tattoo done. I am so glad for his suggestion because the entire experience was so smooth and easy. During my initial consultation, I discussed my ideas with her and immediately she began to sketch a piece that resembled what I had in mind. When I went in to have my tattoo done, we reviewed the piece again to make any necessary changes and the result was amazing. Her work is superb: clean lines, smooth transition of light/dark colors, great drop shading and ways to depict movement. My piece definitely shows depth and contrast. I also met the other artists, Dustin and Aubrey who are also very nice- cool people.
Dustin created and inked a sick piece on the back of my friend's neck that was surprisingly intricate and clean despite the size.
Overall, the facility is very clean. Parking is easy. The staff is very chill and professional and most importantly, their work speaks for themselves. I agree with everyone else and give them 5 stars and would highly recommend Monica and Sugar City Tattoo to anyone looking for a custom tattoo.
I sought a local shop and artist I trusted and was comfortable with for two years. I finally found Monica at Sugar City Tattoo and am ecstatic with my first piece of art from her. I was stopped 3 times with compliments while my fresh tattoo was still wrapped! I can confidently recommend this place and artist to my friends and look forward to future visits. Nice people, welcoming environment, and absolutely beautiful tattoos.
Review Source:Went in a few weeks ago to have Monica do a tattoo of a hamsa on me. I had looked into many shops and artists but none stood out to me like Sugar City. I really loved the work in Monica's portfolio and thought it was the perfect style for the tattoo I had in mind. All the artists had really excellent work and the shop looked very clean and nice so I was totally sold on getting my new tattoo there. Before I got my tattoo I met with Monica to show her my ideas. I didn't have an exact design but rather a bunch of ideas that I was having trouble pulling together myself. I left her with some pictures and she drew up and AMAZING tattoo for me, I mean way way better than anything I could have ever imagined. I felt really comfortable while I was getting tattooed. Monica is super nice and an amazing artist! She really knew exactly what I wanted. Additionally, prices were excellent for such awesome work. I left the shop one happy customer. My tattoo has healed wonderfully and I have gotten so many compliments on it! I will definitely be returning to Sugar City for future work and I would recommend anyone looking for an absolutely awesome tattoo and tattooing experience to check this shop out!!
Review Source:Monica is an amazing artist. I had an idea of what I wanted, but needed advice. She listened to what I wanted and created the most amazing tattoo. It looked even better after she finished it than I could have ever imagined. Â She was really patient with me through my first tattoo. I really appreciated how focused she stayed, even as people would stop by or the phone would ring.
Review Source:in seven years of being tattooed, i have never, ever been to a shop quite like sugar city. this is truly the best tattooing experience i've ever had. aubrey does beautiful, stunning work that photos honestly don't do true justice to. my husband had work done by dustin and it was equally as gorgeous. they are sweet, nice, caring, and truly love what they do. the shop is cute and intimate. i highly, highly recommend them to anyone looking for an amazing tattoo experience. i'll be going to aubrey for years.
Review Source:I went there this afternoon to get a tattoo and walked out very pleased. Â Since I am not very artistic, I pretty much went in knowing what I wanted but no idea about the type of lettering. Â Dustin was very helpful and drew out a couple different styles for me. Â Worked out perfectly. Â The end result was perfect...exactly what I envisioned. Â I also have to add that the shop and Dustin were very clean. Â I would recommend Sugar City Tattoo to anyone!

Review Source:Each of the artists at Sugar City are wonderful at what they do, and have talents beyond the traditional style. Aubry has done 3 tattoos on me and, I have to say, one of my favorite things about her is her natural ability to listen and put you at ease. We spent a good deal of time perfecting the idea that I had and choosing the colors. The decor is perfect for their location in Crockett, which is an artist friendly community. The shop is clean and all of the artists are extremely professional.
Review Source:I got my fourth and best tattoo a few weeks ago. Â I chose Monica because of the beautiful floral work she does. Â I had such a great experience... Â I told her my vision and she came up with art that was beyond what I imagined. Â She made me feel very comfortable, had a great "bedside manner," and did SUCH an amazing job. Â The shop itself is so clean and pleasant, and all three of the artists seem like genuinely nice, talented people. Â I am so glad that our little town has this new(ish), wonderful, successful business. Â I am very grateful for Monica's fine work, and can't wait to go back!
Review Source:When I decided to get my next tat, I wanted to cover one from the past with something meaningful and dear to me. I decided that I wanted my birth month flower, gladiolus, did my research on tat artists and in doing that research I stumbled upon Sugar City Tattoo... I looked at all of their portfolios and was very impressed with all three of them. They are all amazing! I decided to go with Monica because of her flower work... I simply loved it and looked like what I was looking for and I was right. Three sessions later, I have a beautiful, meaningful piece wrapped on my shoulder and towards the middle of my shoulder blades on the top side of my back. It is simply BEAUTIFUL. The detail shows just how much Monica enjoys doing this work, and HOW WELL she does it. Thank you so much, Monica for bringing my vision into beautiful art!
Review Source:Oh my goodness, where to start.
I work in a grocery store, and get compliments on my tattoo everyday, 10 times a day. By old people, young people, business people, religious people, and even little kids! Â Our policy at work is very strict and straightforward, no tattoos, piercings, or odd colored hair. I walked in with my fresh tattoo, taking up a good 3rd of my arm, and my boss's mouth dropped. Â He wanted his business card right away.
Dustin is incredibly talented, and I'm so glad I found this shop. I can't wait to get some more money together and have him start my sleeve. All the artists are patient, light handed, and fairly priced (not that you can put a price on art.) I couldn't be more ecstatic about my experience.
Thanks Sugar City, couldn't have pictured it any better. Please stick around!
I saw Monica's work on a friend & was instantly drawn to her work. Â I made the trip 2 Crockett from Hayward and back again 2 weeks later for another piece of art! Â She's super talented...adds that feminie touch to traditional art and the work speaks for itself! Best healing tattoos yet (I have several). Worth the trek and money-no doubt!
Review Source:I started getting tattoo's when I was 18 and I stuck with one guy for awhile because it made me feel comfy. But as nice as that guy was his tattoo's were just fine. Not bad but not works of art.
A friend of mine was seeing Dustin for a half back piece and I went in with her and watched him work. WOW. I was blown away by the artistry of her piece and every other single piece I've seen him do.
Finally in 2008 I was ready with an idea for a full back piece and I came to Dustin. It still isn't finished yet because I'm like a lot of Americans and unemployed but I get constant compliments on what he has done so far. Everyone thinks it is beautiful already.
I spend more time admiring my back in the mirror these days and I can not WAIT to get employed and go back to finish this piece.
Dustin is a nice guy with an excellent skill. He isn't heavy handed and will check in with you to see how you are holding up (if you are doing a large piece).
The shop is clean and easy to find with plenty of parking around. Neighbourhood is safe. There just isn't a single thing to complain about!
If you want to wear a beautiful piece of art for the rest of your life I highly, Highly recommend Dustin Burt!
I was referred to Sugar City by a family member earlier this year. Â I finally went in and saw Dustin for my consult in June with a concept for a new tattoo. Â I had a guardian angel in mind for my left arm, but was unsure of the details. Â I was stunned when Dustin sketched it out in 5 minutes and the rest is history. Â I feel for the awesome piece he's done and the amount of sessions we've had, Dustin has been really fair with the price, etc. Â We have already talked about another piece for the my right arm, which I can't wait for! Â This is the place if you want amazing artists, a clean and relaxing atmosphere, and easy access from the freeway. Â I'm not sure how many pieces I'll do, but I won't go anywhere else. Â Thanks Dustin!
Review Source:Oh my god this place ROCKS! I have had pieces done by all three artists and I am very happy. They all are incredibly welcoming, talented  and highly professional. The shop is also quite an amazing place, its a mixture of rock n roll and fine art. None of that tacky flash on the walls but instead there are paintings and custom tattoo pieces by all three artists Monica,  Dustin and Aubrey on display. If you live in or around Crockett go on in and check it out, if your not close its totally worth the drive. Trust me.
Review Source:Disclosure: This is written by a fellow local artist who understands what it takes to earn a living with art....
Two things I want to get off my chest:
People who leave shitty reviews because they don't want to pay the asking price SUCK. Â There's a rating tool for that too... Â USE IT! Â You don't want to pay for a Morton's steak? Â Don't eat at Morton's! Â Does that make them a bad vendor? Â No. Â Nobody likes a "yo man".
Artists have to set a value to our work and doing cheap work because we are slow sets a REALLY BAD precedent. Â j d can run his business however he wants ,but in my experience every time I have lowered my rates to accommodate a customer like him I have been REALLY sorry. Â They may do a lot of volume, but so what? Â They always want it for a price that doesn't justify getting out of bed and you inevitably end up having to put aside full rate work because mister cheap-o is already in your chair. Â NOT WORTH THE BS.
Do you really want an artist putting something permanent on you when they feel like they're getting shorted? Â Or worse... Â Do you want them rushing through your session so that their hourly works out better? Â I think not... Â I want them focused on making cool art not focused on how I ground them down on rate and what a jerk I am...
*steps off soap box*
Dustin and Aubrey, do absolutely sick work and they cover some pretty diverse ground between them. Â I haven't met Monica, but her portfolio looks sweet and I wouldn't hesitate to have any of the three mark me up. Â These artists are awesome! I mean really TOP drawer! Â They are taking a big gamble in letting their art pay the bills so if you're local and appreciate a talented ink slinger come to Crockett and check these guys out. Â You won't be sorry you made the trip!
Sugar City Tattoo is fantastic! Â The shop is very relaxing, cozy and clean. Â I'm a big fan of the tattoos Monica has done for me. Â She has a unique ability to listen and implement my exact ideas for custom tattoos. Â Her work in colors are amazing! Â I find the pricing very reasonable, and she works fast! Â I hope they will be around a long time, because I want more quality pieces done by Monica Painter.
Review Source:I have gotten 3 tattoos from Monica, the one I am most proud of is actually a cover up of a solid black tattoo. I came to her with an idea & she came up with a gorgeous piece of art that I have the privilege of wearing every day. The best part is that you can not even tell it's a cover up.
My other 2 - more visible - tattoos get compliments all the time.
I highly reccomend Monica if you have an idea of what you want, but need a true artist to help you bring it to life.
My husband has 2 tattoos from Dustin that are done from a photo. Incredibly realistic & life like. Dustin is a perfectionist and a rare talent.
I hope to be tattooed by Aubrey in the near future, as her portfolio is very impressive as well.
I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3.
The space is clean, bright & has the feel of a hip art gallery. No cheesy flash on the wall, no creepy people lurking around.
A new shop just opened up in our little town of Crockett called Sugar City Tattoo Company. It's comprised of three of most talented artists around and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet; Monica, Dustin, and Aubrey. Individually and collectively, their work is nothing short of amazing. No matter what style of tattoo you're looking to get, you are guaranteed to have a great experience here. Their portfolios are incredible and only begin to touch on the endless options customers have and the ability these artists have for custom work.
Let's talk about the look and feel of this place for a minute; there have been far too many tattoo shops opening up in the bay area in the past few years that are just wrong. Just not places you want to spend hours at, getting a piece of art on your body that will be there for the rest of your life. It's hard to explain, but there's a certain feeling you don't want to get when you walk into a tattoo shop. Sugar City couldn't be further from one of those trashy, sleazy, cheesy shops. The decor is clean and classic. They managed to take a relatively small space and design it really well to keep it nice and open, bright and clean. And because they're such awesome people, the shop doesn't have that stigma that so many shops these days have. The "You don't know what you're talking about, I know more than you" attitude. Even though these artists do know more than you ;)
Anyway, it's just an awesome place. I've already been here twice to get work done by Monica, and they've only been open for a couple weeks now. I couldn't be happier to have them here in Crockett. It's great to see such a unique business thrive in such a small community that has struggled in the past to keep any sort of businesses open. I wish them the best of luck and don't doubt the shop's success for one second. Thinking about getting a new tattoo? Go to Sugar City!
I just got my second tattoo at sugar city by Dustin this time. Â I got a portrait of my grandmother. Â It came out amazing and so true to life. Â Super light handed and very easy to talk to. Â Can't wait to get one from Aubery next, her portfolio is beautiful. Â Thank you sugar city tattoo co.
Review Source:What can I say about Sugar City Tattoo Company? PURE. AWESOME.
Artists Dustin and Monica are so talented that I used to travel from Minnesota to California just to be tattooed by them. Â They both have light and precise hands, and are really customer oriented. Polite, good listeners, and really deliver on your vision. Â And are patient and creative even if you don't know exactly what you want... they will work with you on the design until it's something both you and they are proud of.
Lucky for me, I only have to travel from Oakland to Crockett now to get tattoos. And trust me, the drive is worth it. Â Hit Toots Tavern or the Warehouse in Port Costa after your session for a cold beer and good company.
