Th'ink Tank is the best shop I have found in the area and I love Fish's work. Â Fish was nice enough to squeeze me into his busy schedule since I will be going out of town soon. Â I love what he drew and he did the entire session for me in one sitting when it probably should have taken two. Â It was really fun, he is extremely nice and has a lot of upbeat energy. Â I felt like he really took the time to listen to my idea, draw something nice and made sure it was perfect. Â I'm so happy with my tattoo.
I really liked Fish's style and interest in spiritual tattoos but looking though the portfolios of the different artists, I thought they were all excellent.
Although the artists in this shop are undeniably talented, and though the shop has a reputation as the "best in Denver," my experience there was extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE.
I had been coveting a tattoo from a specific artist at Th'ink Tank for years, having been blown away by his portfolio and after seeing a beautiful piece that he had done on a friend. However, as the process unfolded, I really wish that I had listened to my gut feeling.
The artist seemed disinterested and bored during my consultation. At one point he even rolled his eyes after having asked me how large I wanted the tattoos and I gave him a rough estimate in inches.
When I arrived for my tattoos, he had drawn up something with elements I had specifically mentioned that I wanted to avoid. When I politely asked if two small modifications could be made to the drawing and later tried to confirm the color scheme, he barely acknowledged that he'd heard me and was reluctant to change a thing without discussing any reasoning. After placing the stencils and realizing that I was hoping for the tattoos to be a little larger, he stomped off to resize them, was gone for about half an hour leaving me partially clothed and with nowhere to sit/stand privately in the shop, and didn't bother to ask how I felt about the new size. As I read in a previous review, he seemed very irritated when I wanted to spend more than 30 seconds eyeballing the stencils in the mirror.
During the tattoo, the artist asked if he could change up the color scheme from what we had discussed. Since the tattoos were based on some artwork I'd had at my wedding and deeply personal, I politely declined and tried to explain why. When the tattoos were finished and I got up to check them out in the mirror, I almost cried. I was completely SHOCKED to see that the artist had TOTALLY DISREGARDED what I'd said and gone ahead and replaced a very large portion of the tattoo that we'd planned on being shades of blue with black and yellow instead. Needless to say after all of that anticipation/excitement, pain, and money, I was thoroughly crushed.
Luckily, I have since found a fantastic artist who was willing to rework the tattoos, so this story has had a happy ending. I really am extremely appalled at my experience at Th'ink Tank however, and shocked by the lack of professionalism, ethical consideration, and basic empathy that was shown to me. Though these artists all have awesome skills, what good does it do you when you end up getting something very different than what you'd wanted? When it's carved into your skin, you have every right to be happy with your tattoo, and so I would STRONGLY recommend looking at other shops.
I'd heard really good things 'bout this place, so I decided to stop by and get some ideas/drawings hashed out. Â They were very nice and had me sit down almost immediately with an artist. Â BUT, when I told the artist the design I wanted (a tree on my ankle, with the roots reaching down to my foot), he flat out said that they 'don't do trees because trees never look good'.
Say WHAT?
I was a bit shocked, a bit hurt, and mostly confounded. Â I've seen lots of awesome tree tattoos, and the fact that this dude wasn't even willing to try really pissed me off. Â He basically said that anyone who would do a tree tattoo and promise that it would look good would be stealing my money.
So I give these folks one star, because they didn't give me a chance. Â I understand being selective in choosing customers and designs so as to maintain a quality reputation, but this just felt downright pretentious. Â So boo to you, Th'ink Tank. Â I'll take my business elsewhere.
Came here for my first tattoo with my best friend. Had an appointment at 5, but my car broke down 4 blocks from the shop and I had to wait with the car for an hour until the tow truck showed up. Called the shop, and Jessie said they could squeeze us in at 7:15. Jason Boatman was our tattooist, and boy was he excellent. I am terrible with needles and pass out when I am stuck, but he talked me through the dizziness and coached me through a breathing exercise on the painful parts. He was funny and even though we were there well passed closing, everyone was very nice. I was very comfortable being tattooed there. Many excellent artists in a truly beautiful shop. Hats off to Scotty DeVille.
Review Source:Fish at Th'ink Tank Tattoo is fantastic. I'll give him five stars any day and recommend him to anyone from first-time tattoos to pros. I scoured the books and photos online (this was before Yelp was a thing) and was impressed by his tats and other types of art. I gave him the basic idea of what I wanted and some colors and the pieces he created are beautiful - I always get complements. The tats look great five+ years later.
The shop is clean but not the most comfortable one I've been in. Some people are less friendly than others but nothing so bad that I wouldn't go back. What can I say, it has that real tattoo parlor feel and there's good people watching.
I called the shop back in January to set up an appointment for this month. I'm coming into town this weekend for a very special event and wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate it. When I called, Jessie told me to email them the design I want and they would get back to me asap with a quote. I emailed it and received a confirmation and was told that the person they had in mind to do my tattoo was out of the shop but they would get back to me in a couple of days. No one got back to me. I tried calling a couple weeks later and they said they didn't know what I was referring to, so I sent another email. Now that my trip is in just a few days, it looks like I'm not going to get the tattoo that I wanted so badly. I don't just go anywhere for something permanent like that, and I was trusting the reviews so this was pretty much the place I was counting on.
I figured contacting the shop nearly 5 months in advance and checking in again twice would pretty much assure me an appointment (or, at the very least the courtesy of some sort of explanation as to why they couldn't/wouldn't do the tattoo). Customer service? Sorely lacking.
For my frist tattoo I wanted to do my homework. So who do I go to? My mother, she got both of her tattoos done by Jef Kopp. So in my searches, I found him at Th'ink Tank... however he books a year out and specializes in portraits, which isn't what I was necessarily looking for.
So, after a little struggle booking an appointment since I live out of town and had to plan while I was going to be in town, I finally got an appointment with Sam. Prior to my trip I had sent an "email consultation" over so when I got into town for my real consultation Sam already had an idea of what I was looking for. We went over some ideas, and he told me some possible problems with my original plan... like some of the lettering closing up over time, and other problems thatI could eventually run into. So we went back and forth little discussing what I was looking for and we decided on a general direction.
A few days later I went in for my tattoo, and was super nervous. Sam did a great job not making me feel awkward and keeping me calm. He did an AMAZING job, and gave me exactly what I never knew I wanted. His lettering, and flower work were killer and it looks amazing, I get compliments on it all the time now. Â For my next one, I'll definitely be going back to Sam, even if it includes the extra cost of some airfare to Denver.
For custom work, it's not cheap (what do I know, this is my first and it's not like I really shopped around) ... but is price really an object for a piece of art that's with you forever? ... not a good idea to go cheap in that area folks. Sam's worth every penny.
Think Tank is worth the wait and worth the money, especially if you are looking for custom ink as these guys are true artists. Â I have seen a lot of the guys work and they are all great but I have gotten most all my ink from Scottie who kills Celtic, Old School, Hot Rod, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Â I highly recommend Think Tank to anyone who is looking for amazing custom ink!
Review Source:Been going here for 6 years and have never had anyone but Scottie do my work and man is he talented, he is so flexible to change up what you think will look good, what he thinks will look good, and compromise in the middle. I will never think of going anywhere else. Sure it costs a bit more than most places, but people your putting this on your body for life, you should be willing to pay a little extra for quality.
Review Source:Fish is where it is at! I read the mixed reviews and can see where some are coming from but also can only base my reviews on the experiences I have had. I have had 4 of my 5 tats from Fish and will continue to go to him for his skill, style and overall awesomeness. It is a bit intimidating to walk in the shop but I have only had positive interactions with the staff I have directly dealt with.
Fish understands that each tattoo is personal and holds meaning and he honors that. He is patient and understanding and goes at a pace that is comfortable for you. His work is clean and well done.
The shop is clean too and they are very particular about prepping between appointments. I am a bit of a germaphobe and they have allayed my fears.
Jeff Kopp is a nice guy - I went to the old shop he worked at - where I got my first tattoo after a cliched breakup. He was kind and even helped me put my bike together as it was shipped to me in parts - (that is another story)!
The other shining star I have dealt with is Sam - he tattooed 2 friends of mine who were honoring the loss of a loved one and he was incredibly sweet to them - and he is talented.
All of my tats are on my back so not many folks even know I have them - until now... I got each tattoo to  mark a significant time in my life and I am comfortable getting them done by folks who not only care about their art but about the customer as well. Pricing is high but you get what you pay for and it is more than ink -it is an experience.
I just got my first ink in over a decade at Th'ink Tank, and I'm really happy I chose this shop. It came highly recommended, and I can understand that. I didn't come in with a definite concept, and the artist, Sam, guided me to a sweet design that worked perfectly.
I'd only had a couple of very small characters on my shoulders in the past, so this was the first time I had to sit for a session that lasted more than 10 minutes. Sam worked on me for about 90, and it was a totally cool experience. He was super-professional, very friendly and chill. The other shop staff were very friendly too. The shop is extremely clean and .
Yes, you have to make an appointment and come back in a few weeks (or more). Yes, you have to leave a deposit. Yes, the prices are higher than the average, but that's because the quality is much higher than the average.
If that's not your style, take your business to some shop where you can walk in and take your chances with whoever's there. That's not to say Denver doesn't have a lot of great shops; to my understanding, it certainly does. However, Th'ink Tank does things a little differently. As long as I'm in Denver, I'll be coming back here for my ink.
Not the most cheap but they know what they are doing! I got a memorial tattoo done by Sam Yamini. He was really great in creating something from my idea and really listened to what I wanted. I hadn't had a tattoo in 7 years but made me feel relaxed, and in all just did great work. My tattoo is beautiful and would most definitely return! Â Everyone in the shop is really nice too. It's an all around great atmosphere and plenty of artwork to see. The artist all see to have many years and experience under their belt so your getting what you pay for. Awesomeness!
Review Source:From a tattoo neophyte:
On my first visit to Th'ink Tank I flipped the portfolios of the various artists. Â Some of the portfolios are available online, but there's a lot more actually in the shop. Â After looking through all the portfolios I decided Jeremy's particular style most matched what I wanted. Â Unfortunately, he wasn't available right then, so I scheduled a consultation with him the next day.
At the consultation I told Jeremy basically what I was looking for. Â He did a quick sketch of the design, which was very impressive and exactly what I wanted. Â We talked a little bit about orientation and coloring and then I made an appointment.
Jeremy told he he'd need about a week to finalize the design. Â My appointment was two weeks later, but that's mostly the result of my schedule. Â There is a $100 deposit once you make an appointment, but it counts toward the final cost.
On the day of the appointment we got right to it. Â The stencil Jeremy had prepared was perfect. Â Since this was my first tattoo, I was a little nervous. Â But Jeremy is a true pro. Â He made sure I was doing ok through the whole process. Â The finished product was excellent and well worth the cost.
I'm trying to decide what I want to do for my next tat. Â Once I decide on a design, you can bet I'll be back at Th'ink Tank.
There is no other place in Denver to get a tattoo. Well, at least one that is truly unique.
I've been going here since January working on a half sleeve. Yes, it's been a long process, but the people at Th'ink Tank have been very accommodating when it comes to scheduling appointments, which is truly unique among tattoo shops that I have been to.
I have only been tattooed by Patrick, but he is by far the best artist I have ever worked with. I've been tattooed at many different shops over the years, and Th'ink Tank Tattoo is the only one that I can say I can't wait to go back to.
Got my first tattoo here with Sam. I waited for about 10 minutes until he was available and he free handed a sketch of my description of the tattoo that I wanted. He drew everything out in less than a couple minutes and it looked incredible.
This place is absolutely amazing.
The tattoo overall was very detailed and precise. I got exactly what I paid for and it was well worth the money.
I won't do these guys injustice by saying that they are limited artistry to only tattoo, these guys are artists at this place. Things can get a bit pricey but you be wise to remember that you get what you pay for in a tattoo.
I like the vibe, the atmosphere, the take no shit attitude that everyone displays around here. They do this for a living and you can tell. For the whimpy, stay you cryin ass at home, or their blunt yet playful humor will eat you up.
As quoted "Sam's idea of a custom tattoo will leave you generic, but the jodeci music station playing will give you a new view on life" haha. The second half is true but after seeing sam's work, it's easy to tell that anything custom from him would be far beyond generic.
Stop in, have fun, and remember, leave the sissies at home.
Today was my second visit to Th'ink Tank. Â Went for the charity event they were doing for a friend. Â The place was packed for most of the day, with good reason. Â These are guys and Jenny are among the best tattoo artists in Denver. Â They book out several months in advance, so today was really special. You joined the list, waited and sat w/ the next available artist. Â I was lucky t o have been paired up with Adam.
Despite seeing client after client, some where around 15 by the time I got under the gun, Adam was calm, relaxed and really took his time making sure my artwork was perfect. Â I expected to be rushed through the process and that simply was not the case. Â Not only was my piece better than I expected, he made the experience super friendly and really fun. All the tattoos were turning out incredible.
Â
I was so jazzed to get in on the action. Â The staff is super friendly and not rude at all despite a surprising call out from a previous review. Â Dude you missed out.
So far sat w/ Jenny and Adam both very VERY talented. Â I've been getting compliments on my new tat all night.
I got my first tattoo at The Th'ink Tank in October 2007. Â While my tattoo artist is no longer there, it was a pleasant experience all around. Â (4 stars instead of 5 because of a mild discussion with my specific artist.) Â I was pretty nervous, being my first tattoo, but the staff did their best to keep me relaxed. Â From where I sat, everything seemed very clean. Â My tattoo was simple, so I couldn't comment on their artistry or creative skill, but I can say that I love my tattoo and my first experience was very positive thanks to the Tank.
Review Source:They still get 5 stars. Â I finished by tattoo on Saturday. Â It was 4 hours worth of color but it was so worth it! Â I can't speak highly enough of Patrick. Â I enjoyed my conversations with the other artist as well but since I spent 95% of my time with Patrick I can only truly review him. Â His work is impeccable, his drawings were impeccable and he is the nicest guy. Â It was a joy to have him do my first and very very large tattoo. Â He as of Saturday is booked through March and truly there is a reason for that.
Review Source:I am writing this review as someone looking for a great artist to get several tattoo's from. I only visited this shop today so my review is of the shop and it's reception of a potential customer, not a client.
I went to three shops today with Th'ink Tank Tattoo being the second.
As I walked in I was greeted by a nice guy from the desk to the left and toward the back of the room. Â He noticed that I had found the portfolio's conveniently located at the entrance and said he would be happy to answer any questions.
After looking through every portfolio I left with three names that I will look into a little further. Â Any of the the three may well end being my first. Â Three, that is significant! I'm very picky.
The shop is very large as tattoo shops go and it was in full swing during my visit. Â Everything was clean and I would feel very comfortable getting my first tattoo here.
I still have not made up my mind yet as I have a few places in Boulder to check out. Â If I'm not blown away by any of them I will be looking into setting something up here. Â I did hear though that Th'ink Tank can be booked out as far as 6 months (not confirmed). Â I'm sure that depends on the artist you choose.
Again, this is a rating of the studio and not any artist. Â Artists change locations and move around all the time. You should check the portfolio of the artist you are interested in before having work done.
Now go get that tattoo! :)
I haven't gotten any work done here but the guy at the desk was incredibly rude and full of himself. Â I walked out immediately and went to Twisted Sol instead. Â That shop's not there anymore, but Sandi Calistro at the Kaze Gallery does amazing work and doesn't act like she's the messiah of tattoo art. Â I gave TT two stars instead of one because I looked through the portfolios and have seen their work and some of the artists are really exceptional. Â However, I refuse to be treated like a peon at an establishment where I'm paying that much money, tattoo shop or not. Â It's still a business, which means you need some semblance of customer service.
Review Source:I've had two small tattoos done on my ankles, but I wanted to get a very meaningful chest piece done - I needed an artist to draw it and tattoo it, and after some searching around online decided to try out Th'Ink Tank. I called up and organized a meeting with Adam, and a few weeks later popped in.
The meeting was great, he understood what I wanted and I left feeling confident. The booking can be a pain - I waited four months from my consultation until I got my ink, but it gave me time to get ready. The wait was definitely worth it! I've gotten a lot of bad attitude in piercing/tattoo places before, but there was none of that here. All of the staff were welcoming, calm, reassuring, and fun. I was referred to by first name and included in conversations going on around me. Adam was very sensitive to how I felt and was understanding of my shakiness (I'm a trembly person, so I was doing my best to sit still!).
The end result is, in a word, fantastic. The linework is wonderful and the colors are BREATHTAKING. Amazing shading and coloring. I left feeling happy and I have a tattoo I will cherish my entire life. The cleanup process was easy and, as another reviewer mentioned, my tattoo healed in DAYS. It peeled a little but there was barely any scabbing and it's smooth and beautiful. The colors are vibrant.
Great work. Great atmosphere. If you don't mind the cost and the wait (and you shouldn't, for something you'll have your whole life), try them out.
About the schedule: Yep. They are booked for months. This is a good thing, if you think about it.
About the price: Compared to other artists in other cities, I think Th'Ink Tank is pretty affordable, but it's still custom tattoo work so it definitely adds up.
About the work: Holy crap it's good. Everything I've seen that has allowed the artist enough leeway to do their thing has turned out amazing.
About the people: Top notch. All the artists are good folk. We had an issue with one of the desk jockeys once. Once. Now they have great people working there, too.
Fish is my boy. My wife and I have *lots* of work from him, and I can't recommend him enough. I also can't wait to get back in the chair...
There are two tattoo shops in town to consider when you want to get quality work done. Â Th'Ink Tank is one of them. Â Jef Kopp is the former owner, and is still a tattooist there, and is booked about 9 months out, and charges an arm and a leg for his services. Â It's a life time commitment, people...pay the money and get top quality work! Â Other artists are not booked out as far, but you will still have to wait a bit. Â Go in, flip through the books, see which style suits you best, make an appointment, and don't let that tattoo money burn a hole in your pocket!
I can't tell you how many people have asked me where to go, I tell them, but they can't wait so the go to some scary place, and get gnawed at....and then go to Th'Ink Tank for corrective work. Â
This is not a parlor with a bunch of shitty flash on the wall, where you point and say, "I want that! Â Yeah, the Tazmanian devil, right here on my forearm!!". Â They do all custom work. Â You come in with an idea, and they help work it up for you, for something that will be yours for life.
One more word about Jef. Â He is an amazing artist, be it oil colors and canvas or skin. Â Regardless of his rock star status, he is the most humble, kind man. Â A lot of shops can be full of that tough guy attitude, but you don't get that here. Â I know some of the other artists, but not as well, but I am sure they are just as nice and as talented.
I love Th'ink Tank! I only trust them for quality and precision. I didn't give 5 stars because one of the appointment setters is terribly rude, but other than that, this place is great. Plan at least a few months in advance. The talent here is obvious by the long wait to get inked. Extremely professional and clean. I couldn't believe tattoos were being done, it was like a doctor's office! The atmosphere is awesome though...comfy furniture and it doubles as an art gallery. I got my first tattoo here and the guys really made me feel at home. Go there now!
