The fact that they get ANY stars is because of Ken, who is pleasant and knowledgeable and basically a pleasure to deal with. The rude, pushy, Nosican woman that works along side Ken should never be allowed to work with the public, at least not if you want to stay in business Just look at their review record! .The latest encounter with her was when my wife asked if she would help her by looking up a past receipt (for a rather large purchase) for something that was stolen. It was needed for insurance purposes. She had no interest in helping at all and was, as she always is, rude and dismissive. So, I would think hard about giving them any business, especially since what they have to offer is the same cookie-cutter type of jewelry you can pick up in any jewelry store. It's the last time we will step foot in the place.

I don't think I've ever written a bad review on Yelp, but I felt the need to warn people. I brought my Polar heart rate monitor in for a battery change. I asked both owners repeadedly if they had replaced a battery in a Polar before and they said "yes." They put 2 batteries in (for some reason) and charged me $32.00. Wow! That's almost half the cost of the monitor. My monitor still didn't work, however, so I brought it back 5 days later to return the batteries. She said "no." There was no customer service at all, not even a willingness to work with me. It was as if I just walked in, handed her $32 and left.

Bottom line - save your money and go to a quality place that guarantees their work.

Since we are all sharing about our horrible experiences, it's now my turn....
My husband recently went there to purchase a xmas gift for me. His intention was to support small businesses in town. He picked out a beautiful black pearl ring for me. Knowing it was waaaay to big, he asked the lady (wife of owner) if I could bring it back to get resized, she said of course, no problem. So when I brought it in, she said it would cost $80 to resize it!!!! $80 is absolutely rediculous. Not to mention she was VERY rude to me. At that point I thought "hmm, maybe I'll just see if I can exchange it" They have a sign at their cash register that says no refunds, exchanges only. So I started waking around the store, looking at the different rings they have. First, most of their jewelry is hideous, like something you would buy from Walmart. Nothing "unique" about it at all. Second, it's WAY over priced. I'm not exactly a jewelry expert, but I know cheap crap when I see it.
Needless to say, I went home without resizing, knowing i could have it done for way cheaper anywhere else. My husband, totally dimayed by this experience, went back to try and get our money back for the ring. She then quoted him $86 for a resizing (now the price went up) when he demanded his money back, she became very rude and absolutely refused to even exchange it at this point.
So, never, ever again will we support this business. And I hope everyone understands what a scam this place is. Do yourself a favor and DON'T SHOP HERE!
Ps. I had the ring resized at a Concord jewelry store for $25. It took them 4 days and they were very friendly.

My experience at Unique Jewelry was not good.

Although I had a written quote and work order to mount two loose Tanzanite stones on scew-type posts (to make stud earrings), after the work was done (by the male owner), the female owner insisted I owed more.  When I tried to discuss, I found her to be rude and unwilling or unable to rationally discuss and resolve the problem. I made a dispute with my credit card company, ended up paying 1/2 the amount UJ asked just to get my earrings back.  In my opinion, this seemed like the female was engaging in a deceptive business practice.  Needless to say, I no longer patronize this store and would advise others to proceed cautiously.

So here is the deal.  I waited a bit to write this review, because I really don't like to drive business away from local merchants.  But after reading some of the other reviews I had to chime in.  I took my Breitling watch to get some repairs.  I was called by someone at the store, who spoke very broken english.  I told them I would come in and discuss with them the question, since I live right by.  Next day I got a voice mail saying my watch was done.  Odd, because I had told them to not do anything until I came back in.  Basically they used a replacement part that was not approved by Breitling.  Makes the watch look different.  When I asked them to replace they told me they were going to charge me another $100 to replace the one they just fixed.  Never happened.  Long story short, please go somewhere else if you value your jewelry.

DO NOT GO! If you care about your precious item.
I read the other people review thinking it was just them. But NO!  I was getting my watch fixed and I saw the owner (Chinese woman) being rude to every single customer walking in. She just cares about money and don't really care about people's feeling there. Surprised this place can last. She treats other people's jewelry like trash. Soon as the customer leaves the item with her, she will drag against the hard glass counter and set it without being careful. I think she really does not know that she is damaging customers belongings. For her small scratch is not a big deal. It is as if she is in her menopause and letting it out on unsuspecting poor customers. She was telling me she is professional jeweler and this is not Asian jewelry store but she sure runs her business like ones in Asia with fake watches. RUDE and unprofessional.

I just feel bad for her husband Ken, who is nice guy but has no say in the manner the business if run.

I never write reviews and this is my first, hopefully my last negative review.

    Don't go to this shop.

I learned my lesson, to read the review and trust people posting.

Over the years I've gone here to have repair done on at least 20 rings.  The repair was well done however within the last two years the woman at Unique Jewelry has turned me away forever.  She was loud, rude, and wouldn't give us a quote for repair.  This person actually wanted us to leave the 3 rings there without knowing how much we would be charged!  We ended up taking the rings to our jeweler in San Francisco.  Worth the distance for the professional job and service .

I have mixed feelings.  First, I loved this place, because I only delt with Ken the owner and he is so very nice and polite.  However recently I had his wife intervene in a transaction and everything went downhill for awhile.  Here's my story:

I have a beautiful opal ring that was a gift from my mom.  One of the opels was cracked and another just broke.  When I went in for a quote, I was quoted $75 by Ken to fix each stone (total $150) which seemed very reasonable to me.

When I picked up my ring, one stone was great the other was not a good match at all.  I told Ken that I wanted him to find a different stone because I didn't like that one.  He called me back with a new stone which I agreed was a good match.  As he was giving my receipt, his wife shouted at him and then he wrote $200 for the 2nd repair on my receipt.

Needless to say, I was very unhappy.  I talked it over with my hubby and figured if his wife could work on his behalf, then I coulde send my husband to work on mine.  He came back and said that Ken would call me back about the price.  Well, we negotiated.  Turns out that Ken didn't realize how difficult the job was and that he had to whittle down the opals to get them the right size and that he lost money on the first job.

I agreed that could be possible, but it wasn't my fault.  Had I known in advance the price, I could have made a better decision.  So, we talked, we negotiated and he reduced the replacement to $99.  He then porceeded to give me a 50% discount of some repairs and work to my wedding ring.

At the end of the day, I was pleased.  I have used this store several times in the past and this was the only hiccup in our relationship.

The workers here are plain rude.
My boyfriend went to sell a ring retail price worth about $450. It was his first time selling jewelry so he was unsure of how the process worked. When he walked in, the lady looked at him and said, "What do you want?" in a very rude manner. He proceeded to tell her that he was interested in selling the ring. She then asked, "how much do you want?" again in a rude manner. He said "100?" then she relied with, "no. $20." He was so fed up that he left.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! They are very very rude.

I had a ring increased in size and I was very pleased.  I think $35 is seems kind of expensive but don't know for sure.  This is the first ring I've had sized.  They were finished with the ring in one day.

Took my watch in to have the battery replaced. The lady put in the battery. The watch still didn't work.

She then told me I needed to have it cleaned for $75.00. Seemed a little steep for me so I took the watch home and let my husband put the battery in for me.

Guess what? The watch worked just fine. My guess is that the lady wanted to charge me $75.00 for an unnecessary cleaning so she put the same battery back in my watch to make me think it didn't work.

Don't go to this store unless you have extra money to throw away. And on a side note, they are rude as well.
