THIS REVIEW IS SO HARD TO WRITE!! Ugh, no idea where to begin....
I was on the hunt to get a new tattoo and was on the hunt for someone who wowed me as well as had a style that suited mine. A second objective for me which may sound trivial to some was to find someone friendly and someone I could feel comfortable and at ease with.
Foraging through Yelp and sorting through endless reviews, I cam across Cyclops Tattoo and the work of Jason Stein and Cicely Daniher. I found both had impressive work and almost every review mentioned how either artist was very receptive and easy going to work with.
I saw a piece by Jason related to what I wanted and was like "damn that looks frickin' amazing" and decided to work with him. I don't live in SF and worked with him via email explaining what I wanted. While it wasn't a complicated piece, I was nervous as I hadn't seen the design til I walked in for my appointment. The design was what I wanted (and more) and I felt at ease (which can be hard when you're extremely ticklish) when he began his work.
There was an apprentice (pupil, associate, etc), and partway through he began explaining certain techniques to her. Not only did I feel even more confident in his ability but I also learned something new! And he was just as easy going and patient with her as a teacher.
After roughly an hour and a half my piece was finished and voila! I fell in love (still am) with it as soon as I saw it. I was giddy (in my head I was literally saying OMG over and over again) and it came out better than I imagined. It was worth every penny and I found it to be very reasonably priced. His lining, shading/coloring, attention to detail is AMAZING. I will definitely come back for future pieces from him.
ALSO, Cicely is just as awesome. She was working on another girl's thigh tattoo while I was there and it came it out beautifully!
Both are truly talented and friendly. Maybe friendly is overrated but I personally think nice gets you a lot further than talent.
In summary.... I recommend them to anybody/everybody!
I searched for months for a tattoo artist that I liked to do my tattoo for me. I didn't want to be one of those people whose first tattoo was something crappy and cheap. Everyone I looked at had pretty much the same style and if they were decent they cost a fortune. I found Cyclops Tattoo here on yelp and decided to get a tattoo from Cicely since it looked like she did a wide variety of styles and if i wanted to come back for a different tattoo it looked like she'd have no problem giving me what I want. I ended up getting a penguin (Tuxedo Sam, for those of you who know that character) with an anchor. It turned out soooo good. I can't imagine going anywhere else for my next tattoo. She was super fast (under an hour) and people can't believe what a good price I got for the quality of work she did.
Review Source:I almost don't want to write this review, since Jason already books out pretty far in advance, but I can't help myself. When I find something or someone truly amazing I feel the need to share it with all of you.
I am the type of person who gets a tattoo idea in my mind and then I quietly stew over it for a couple of years, all the while searching the internets for the artist that I believe can translate the image in my head into an image on my body. If you are going to be insanely picky over anything, a tattoo and a tattoo artist is really the place to do it. What other product are you going to carry around with you for the rest of your life? I wanted a peacock on my leg. I wanted it to be realistic, and rich with deep colors. And almost all of the artists that I had found used a more cartoon or classic tattoo style for their art.
Then I found Jason. After looking at the pictures on his website I knew that he was the guy for me. We met up for a consult and I was comfortable with the idea that he was going to do an amazing job. And the next time we met to get my tattoo started he proved me completely correct. Over 2 sessions, and 5 and a half hours my peacock came to life. Jason is fast, efficient, and fun to hang out with while he's stabbing you repeatedly with needles.
The shop itself is tiny since there are only the two artists that work there, but it is packed with the most random chachkis that anyone could hope to stare at for hours on end. My personal favorite is the duck with the bling. The shop isn't in the most pleasant part of town, but once you're inside it doesn't matter. Just be careful not to park in the loading zones outside. Stupid SF parking control! lol
Everyone I know is impressed with my tattoo, and I have since recommended him to many other people, 3 of which I know are now loyal customers of his, as am I. I have since gone back to him for 2 other tattoos, and I have 2 more that I am thinking of getting, one of which I think I'm actually going to  make an appointment with him for once I am done with this review.
So there's my review... now please don't completely inundate him and make it impossible for me to get my last 2 pieces done by him! =)
Jason Stein is the shit! He has been working on my right arm sleeve for more than a year (I can only stand to sit for two hours at a time...I'm a wuss, and I usually need time in between sits to save up cash for my next visit) and he's awesome! He helped me design a cover-up for a design I had on my shoulder, and eventually worked that and some other existing work into a beautiful sleeve. He's affordable, fast and super talented. I went in with some vague ideas of what I wanted and he helped create a masterpiece that far exceeded anything I could have imagined. I love the fact that it's appointment only, that it's on the second floor and that they don't really do walk -ins. Saves you from having to feel like you are on display while getting tattooed. I love Jason's no nonsense approach to life and tattooing and am honored to have his works of art permanently placed on my body. Go Cyclops!!
Review Source:Jason did my tattoo, which was a design representing Electronica music that I have been thinking about for quite some time. Â I went in for a consultation back in the beginning of April, showed him the design, we talked about it, the placement, how to make it unique, etc, and I booked my appointment for the following month. Â I put down a required deposit, which later got applied to the cost of the tattoo.
A bit over a month later, I now have my artwork and I am very happy with it. Â The artwork was sketched by the time I showed up, but he still took his time to make sure it was exactly what I wanted, then we adjusted the placement several times. Â The tattoo itself looks really good, from the design, to the shading, to the colors. Â He was very efficient and friendly, so the hour that the actual tattooing took, passed by pretty fast. Â I just wish it would stop peeling already so that I could show it off!!!! (Patience is not one of my virtues, hehe). Â At $150/hr, I thought the pricing was very reasonable, esp for the results that I got.
I will definitely be back for my next couple of projects that are slowly but surely brewing in my noggin :-)
Decided to book this place for my cover up piece based on  fellow yelper's reviews.
I called and booked a consult with Cicely then the following Saturday came in, She looked at my tattoo, and my artwork and went over the possibilities, then booked my appointment for a few weeks later, I put down a 10% deposit.
A few weeks later I returned, when I came in she had my artwork ready to go, again talked with me about what and how I wanted it, then placed it on. After pressing it on, she again double checked with me about exactly what I wanted, I told her I was cool with losing the moon ( she felt it would look better not to keep a moon) and to add some hazy purple sky, she matched the coloring of my bat to another tattoo I have. All and All i took a risk and told her to add whatever shading haze, stars or artistic touch she wanted, that I was mainly concerned with the bat looking like the edward gorey bat, She told me she wouldn't be able to add detail to the bats face, however in the end she was able to give him little eyes. All and all i feel like I was treated very professionally and I am very happy with my results. The pricing is also very fair. I would highly recommend this place, and there is a reason they have a 5 star rating.
About 9 months ago I got a larger tattoo on my shoulder and back. I love the tattoo and the work that Sweet Cicely did. I brought in some pictures for ideas for my tattoo and we went from there. She added a little bird to my tattoo and made changes to my liking during the sitting. I will absolutely come back and I have recommend this place to many friends. Sweet Cicely made me feel comfortable and I had a great time talking with her while she tattooed. I can't wait to come back for my next tattoo.
Review Source:Normally I try to stick to reviewing restaurants on yelp, but my experience here was so fantastic, I was left with little choice.
Coming from a recommendation from a friend, I emailed Jason to setup a time to come in, figuring I'd have my Outlook open and book something the following week. Uh no, he notified me that he'd love to help, but was booked for the next 2 months. I told him I was on a bit of a schedule and to let me know if he had a cancellation. A week later, he had one, I jumped at it, and we started talking about the design.
I flooded him with pictures of the symbol, and my ideas. My favorite was a version that had been done with a brush with deep brush stroke lines. I dismissed it as I figured it would not come out well in ink. He completely disagreed and in fact said it was the only one he really liked. During the visit he drew it with an actual brush, and after a few size tweaks we were off and running. As I was laying face down, I couldn't see the action, but my lady who wanted to go and watch, said he was something to watch. Especially the parts with the brush work.
If I get a third, there is absolutely no one else I would let do it.
Could not recommend this place higher, and I have heard his partner is equally as good.
I got my fifth tattoo from Jason in January. As I expected he did an excellent and professional job. When I first worked with him about 10 years ago, I was able to get an appointment in the following week. Now he is booked a month or so out and I think that is great. I'm glad to see Cyclops and  these incredibly talented and professional artists doing so well.
Review Source:Very glad I got my first tattoo here. I got my tattoo done by Jason, he was awesome. I brought in an idea of what I wanted and he made it come to life! I was very happy with the outcome and will be going back for my second tattoo soon and bringing my husband with me to get his first tattoo. Great place to go, and reasonably priced worth your money and time!
Review Source:As a loyal yelp user, I used this trusty site and came across this tattoo shop. I was pretty blown away at the number of great reviews it recieved, so I decided to check out the shop for myself.
The shop is very is small and intimate, and was not like your typical tattoo shop. It's filled with trinkets and interesting items all over the place, so you have a bunch of things to distract you while you sit there trying to get your mind of the tattoo pain.
Walking into the shop, the artist I talked to was Jason. He was very kind, professional and straight to the point. I was immediately impressed with his work and scheduled an appointment with him, and so did my boyfriend. Unfortunately, both Jason and the other artist Sweet Cicely are booked 40 days in advanced, but we were willing to wait.
After 40 days of anticipation, we finally came in for our first sessions. When I saw the sketch of my tattoo, it was almost exactly how invisioned it, but even better. We started my outline, and for as large and intricate as it was, he got through it FAST. Not only is he a quick worker, but the quality of the tattoo looks like he took his sweet time. I'm very satisfied, and it's only my first session!!
After a lunch break, it was my boyfriend's turn to begin his first session of about 4 sessions. He is getting a very intricate piece and based on the size of the tattoo, I thought we were going to be there for hours but to my surprise, Jason busted out the outline in 1.5 hours. After the outline was complete, we realized that the tattoo was a mirror image from what my boyfriend originally wanted but I guess it was half of our fault because all 3 of us didn't realize it was backwards until it was done. However, the piece was soo impressive and well done, that the whole backwards thing, didn't even phase my boyfriend's reaction. He loves the new ink already.
We left the first sessions very satisfied, and we're very impatient to go back for session 2 in April!
The shop rate of $150/hour intimidated me at first, but I really want to emphasize that the quality is so worth the money spent. Not to mention, that this rate is comparable to other shops, but Jason works so fast, you'll end up saving money!!
I really recommend anyone to go to Cyclops Tattoo! They really do live up to their reviews here on yelp!
Went there for my first tattoo and Jason did an amazing job. Of course it hurt, which tattoo doesnt? But it came out beautiful and I look at it every day and thank him for making it look so good. I also got a free touch up, even though it barely needed any. I will for sure go back to him for my next one!
Review Source:My review for Cyclops Tattoo is way overdue. Â A couple years ago, I presented my concept for my tattoo to Jason Stein and a few weeks after that consult (like a previous reviewer has stated, there is a reason why this place is booked solid all the time - their work is truly worth the wait), I returned to see what he had come up with, and it was really impressive and EXACTLY what I was looking for. Â I knew from the start that when I'd get a tattoo, I did not want flash from a wall and wanted something that was custom and one-of-a-kind. Â When I saw Jason's portfolio on their website prior to my initial visit, I felt confident that he was going to be the artist that would be able to come up with the style that I was looking for. Â
One thing I remember him telling me about the initial size of the tattoo that I had wanted was that he felt it was small and that I should get it bigger and how from his personal experience, most people always regret getting it too small, afterwards, but hardly ever regret getting it big. Â So I trusted what he said, and to this day, almost two years later - I do not regret my decision at all. Â Jason is very cool and his work is simply amazing and will seriously blow you away - truly beautiful and he has REAL talent. Â I recommend anyone thinking of getting a tattoo to go and check out Cyclops. Â It was my first time getting a tattoo and I'm so glad that I came here and am really happy with the awesome and professional work done by Jason!
I decided to come to Cyclops Tattoo after reading reviews on Yelp and looking at their website. Â I feel like this was a perfect example of how effective Yelp can be. Â Everything people said about Jason is absolutely true. Â I brought a drawing of an idea that I had and liked. Â He asked me several questions about what I wanted and what style I was looking for. Â What I appreciated the most was that he gave me ideas of his own, that made the design that I had brought him, more persoinalized to me. Â
When I went in to get the actual tattoo, I genuinely felt that his final design was better than I could have ever pictured on my own. Â It was simply perfect. Â
To add to my pleasant experience, both Jason and Cicely were personable, and funny. Â Their studio gets phenomenal natural light and is filled with cool knick-knacks and memorabilia. Â The 3 hours I spent there went by very quickly and I had a lot of fun...and some pain...but mostly fun.
I can't wait until the 26th when I go back to get my tattoo colored in!
I've never felt compelled to write a review on Yelp before, but Sweet Cicely is such a pro, I feel it's my duty. Â Like others, I thought long and hard about who was going to ink me. Â I didn't want a shop with a wall of flash: I really wanted the artist to have as much input as possible to make a truly custom tattoo, and didn't even know if what I wanted was possible. Â
There's a reason why the folks at Cyclops are totally booked solid--the work is worth the wait. Â I can't say enough about what a great experience this was.
Sweet Cicely gets four stars for her excellent service and positive attitude. Â Her artistic ability as a tattooist earns her the fifth star. Â
My cousin just got her first tattoo today--but it could have not been so! Â We went in to Cyclops after reading all the other stellar yelp recommendations, and Cicely told us that they were booked until October (note to reader: plan in advance!). Â So we left a bit discouraged. Â Then, alas, Cicely ran out the door after she learned that another customer had canceled and she took us right there on the spot! Oh Joy!!
Cicely was patient, easy to talk to, and very professional. She explained everything and gave us a very fair price. Â She is an awesome custom tattooist (which is a bit rare). Â I can't wait until I get my tattoo--I'll definitely keep Cicely and Cyclops in mind.
AWESOME! Is the Word that best describes Jason's work and his people skills. This man is the best tattoo artist in the city imo.I wanted a super mario tattoo I was scared it might not come as the photo I had brought it.I was wrong indeed not only did it come out great it looks better than the photo and everyone I have shown it to loves it.Jason is a great human being takes time to hear out your ideas and doesnt make you feel like a complete moron for asking questions. He is my offical artist now.
Review Source:I got my first (and currently only) tattoo here about a year ago. Sweet Cicely is an absolutely amazing artist, completely professional, easy going, and SO talented!
I did a lot of research leading up to taking the plunge, and after talking to several artists around SF, Sweet C was my clear favorite. She worked with me to create a beautiful custom font for my tattoo (I have 4 lines of poetry on my ribcage) and was so helpful in answering all of my questions and quelling any first-timer fears I had. She even finished me in less time than we had anticipated! (It hurt, of course, but her calm mannerisms and cool conversation helped moved the process along).
The result? A gorgeous tattoo I love. If/when I get another, I know where I'll be going!
I just recently got my first tattoo and actually used Yelp to find Cyclops. Â I was totally satisfied and absolutely love it. Â Jason Stein did an amazing job. Â He's very friendly and professional. Â He gave great advise on how to care for it and said to call or come back in if I had any questions. Â I would totally go back to him if I ever get another tattoo.
Review Source:After quite a bit of research on Bay Area artists, I decided to contact Jason Stein for my 10th tattoo that I was hoping to get done while on vacation in Napa/SF.
Not sure what else to say except for that I am blown away by the results. Jason is an amazingly talented artist. Professional, friendly, easy to talk to, fantastic music playing in the shop, and great rates, especially for what you will get. I basically did a consultation with him via email, told him what I was looking for, and attached 2 pictures as a point of reference. He looked at what I sent, told me what would and wouldn't work, and said that he would draw it up with his own spin on it, which is what I was hoping for. I did not want to give him a picture and say "duplicate this." What he drew up was beyond what I could have hoped for. The amount of detail is just ridiculous. Tattoo was just under two hours and cost $280, more than worth it. This was hands-down the best tattoo experience I've ever had. Jason Stein is someone I would be willing to travel from Seattle to SF for just to have work done - he is that good. If you are considering a tattoo in the Bay Area do yourself a favor and go see him.
I uploaded my tattoo here on Yelp so you can see the results, it's the gypsy tattoo that says "By Jason Stein, 5/18/10."
My first tattoo was done here by Sweet and I'm so glad I went to her. My cousin came here for a consultation and I tagged along with her hoping I could schedule an appointment for my own tattoo as well. She did not turn me away and she is super nice! We were able to score an appointment but it wasn't until another three weeks before she could see us. That gave us more confidence in her ability as an artist since other people were seeking her out too.
The day finally came for our first tattoos and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I had given Sweet a sketch of what I wanted and emailed her some more details and picture on what I wanted. She showed me the sketch she came up with and I absolutely LOVED and LOVE it! Now it's on me forever and I'm super happy and satisfied. Definitely recommended, esp. if it's your first time. Sweet works with you until you're happy with the artwork. And the session was made more comfortable by having a professional like her. Absolutely beautiful work!
i got my first tattoo done here last spring by Jason Stein. i was really nervous but he is very calm and quiet and a super nice guy, so that definately made me feel better. i knew exactly what i wanted (nothing too complicated, just some text) and he worked through the text design for me to get exactly what i wanted. it didn't take long (maybe.... 35-45 minutes?? something like that) and it wasn't bad at all! he did an awesome job, and i will definately go back to him for my second.
also, reasonable pricing! he tells you exactly how to take care of your new ink and doesn't tell you you need to buy any wierd creams or ointments to put on it while it's healing.
lastly, the studio is sick. wierd art and sculptures everywhere. i would go just to chill and look at everything on the walls haha!
overall, a great place to get a first tattoo. jason did a wonderful job and i love it. absolutely recommended!
my one and only tattoo! sweet cicely was the best and knew how nervous i was. it was a week after i turned 18 and i decided to get some ink in honor of officially being considered an adult. i drew my own design and she went to work. she didn't mind my sister sitting behind me with a camera and before i knew it, she was done!
if and when i decide to get another one...i would definitely seek out sweet cicely. if you're thinking about getting something done for the first time, this is your best bet for a more relaxed, memorable milestone.
I went here about 5 years ago to get my 2nd tattoo done on my back. Â I think it was Jason who designed it. Â I gave him a concept and he designed it from scratch. Â
I think it ended up great design wise, I only wish that I had picked a different color palette. Â I think it took a total of about 3 hours, but he was really patient with me. Â I kept asking about how far along we were in the process.
Compared to some other shops, they were really helpful and friendly. Â Perhaps when I have the time and courage I will head back there to touch it up and darken the colors!
Sweet is the best!! Not only does she listen to what you want, she puts her own flair. Â She doesn't make you feel like you need to be "cool" to be there - very home-y & welcoming. Â I think she may have been a therapist in her past life since I spilled the beans on my life while in slight discomfort...I love my tattoo and now am dreaming of the next one.
Review Source:Jason's done four of my six tattoos, from a seahorse on my ankle to a huge phoenix on my shoulder. Â He is calm, encouraging, determined to give you the most beautiful tattoo ever, and makes changes as he works if inspiration strikes either of you.
If you're gonna have it permanently, you want it to be beautiful -- and you want to remember the tattooing experience fondly. Â I've got a beautiful piece by a tattoo artist who was a jerk. Â His attitude soured the pleasure I take in the piece. Â So now, having learned my lesson, I would see no one but Jason at Cyclops. Â I even carry his cards in my purse so I can hand them out to everyone who admires my tattoos.
Update: I went back for another tattoo and was very pleased with the outcome. Sweet Cicely is the most awesome person. She listens to what you want, provides her artistic input and the results are beautiful tattoos that you can be proud of.
My latest addition is a Virgin Mary done in the style of Dia de los Muertos. I came up with the idea on the way to my consultation and Cicely was totally into what I had in mind. It's good to know that your tattoo artist is excited about what she's doing b/c you know she'll do her best. And to think I was going to try a new artist for this tattoo. Blasphemous!! I only feel right going to Cicely, anything else would feel like cheating!
Jason is a great artist and easy going and laid back. No drama. He listens and draws what you want and he just has a good personality so that you get to enjoy your tattooing experience instead of feeling the pain.
I got a Egytian Falcon tattoo on my left arm from the cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's Greatest Hits CD cover art. Jason also touched up another tattoo for me and did a great job!!
For anyone who might be sensitive to getting their first tattoo done, I'd highly recommend Jason cuz he puts you at ease.
I lost my ink virginity here and I'm not going to lie. Â It hurt! Â There was blood. It didn't hurt as much as I imagined, but it does feel like what it is (you're getting stabbed by needles). Â Mine lasted well over an hour. Â But...nothing worth anything is easy. Â I'm really very happy with my new tatoo. Â This is not one of those places where you pick out a tatoo and they do it. Â They only do custom designs. Â Sweet Cicely is a true artist. Â She works with you to come up with an idea and an original design. Â She is also very professional. Â She made sure I was comfortable and understood what was happening. Â She also gave me a check list of what to do to care for my art work. Â She also said that she would touch it up for free. Â I will definitely go to her for my second tatoo!
OK...I went back on got a second tatoo. Â Sweet Cicely touched up my first tatoo for free just as she had said. I'm not sure I needed it, but who am I to say no to a woman with needles. Â She really is an artist and wants her work to always look great. Â It was still quite painful. Â If fact it hurt more. Â Apparently, the smaller needles hurt more. Â She also told me that it tends to hurt more as you get older....hmmm. Â Anyway, it turned out great. Â It's really unique and I feel amazing!
All I have to say is that Cicely is an awesome, talented, and a phenomenon artist. Â She got such a friendly personality ... very understanding and patient!!! Â I would recommend you to go see Cicely if you're ever in the SF area. Â
This is my 2nd tattoo and I've walked and walked to many many shops from LA to Santa Monica to Venice Beach and nothing caught my eyes. Â I went to Cyclops by chance and I'm so glad I did. Â I brought her my sketch and she totally took it to the next level. Â I LOVE MY NEW TATTOO!!! Â THANKS CICELY!!!
Jason is the man to go to.
I just got my second tattoo done by Jason the other week and i love it so much. Â The first time i went to Jason i just threw out my ideas and probably didnt make much sense though he seem to understand. Â On the day of my appointment, he just straight up drew the design on my back and it was exactly what i wanted. Â
Jason is just full of ideas. Â I totally felt i could tell him if i wanted a bit more of this and a little more of that, he was totally chill about it and you feel at ease rather than feeling like you cant speak up about what you want since its going to be on your body forever.
So the other day i just gave Cyclops a call to see if Jason had any openings and luckily he did. Â I walked in with a design and ask if he can tweak it up a bit. Â 20 minutes later in the chair i got a brand new tattoo.
I also brought my friend there and she got herself some stars and my other friend got a piece done by Cicely and turned out awesome. Â So next time you guys go, tell them i sent'cha.
Just got a tattoo done here and it is beautiful. The whole experience was absolutely amazing.
I would recommend this place to anyone/everyone but especially if you want to talk to someone who wont make you feel stupid or uncomfortable. You know how some places are just so stuck up and the artist make you feel dumb like if they're too good to do your tat? iono if you've ever experienced that but you never will at Cyclops.
Jason did a tattoo for my friend and it turned out so fantastic that I had him draw me some art that i've been wanting and he took my idea to a whole other level. It was great.
He definitely made me feel comfortable and that's important. And the fact that he's such a good artist too. I know I'm going to keep coming here.
Please check this place out!!!!
I got a tattoo from Cicely just about a month ago, and I love it. Â I've received a lot of great feedback on it. Â The art is just beautiful. Â I contacted Cicely via email because of yelp reviews. Â We talked a little bit online until I came in for my consultation. Â Even though it was very brief, I felt very comfortable that Cicely knew what she was doing and she took into consideration what I had asked of her on my emails.
The day I got my tattoo done went greatly also. Â Cicely's very nice, we had a wonderful conversation, and most importantly she added a really beautiful owl to my collection of body art. Â
I brought my friend with me who's had art done on her numerous times and she's planning to give Cicely a call to do another piece for her. Â
This latest tattoo was my 6th time getting one. Â Each time has progressively gotten more complex and demanding of the artist to 1) understand their craft and 2) to be good artists in general. Â I'm very very glad that I contacted Cicely (and I'm glad the yelp reviews I read were spot on!)
BTW, I took Bart into the city and made a day of it. Â It was sunny and warm so I was able to hang out at Dolores Park. Â Probably better to do it that way than to find parking.
There's a giant squid that lives on my right shoulder and upper arm, thanks to Jason at Cyclops. It's my first tattoo. It took two sessions, each a couple hours. Jason was very patient and professional with my squeaks and nervousness. Now I have this awesome, totally original piece of art on my body. I love it. I can't recommend Cyclops enough.
Review Source:called on a Friday and was able to score a tattoo appt for Sunday! Â when I got there I did a 15 minutes consultation with Cicely and she spent 25 minutes on a 10-word sentence on my chest. Â I was there for a total of 40 minutes, it cost $60 and my tattoo looks great! Â super nice, very clean and highly recommended.
Review Source:Sweet Cicely is the official tattoo artist of Lord and Lady Pestlebottom. My Lady has acquired several of her pieces, and I currently have one work-in-progress, and many more to follow. Sweet Cicely is quite talented and thorough, and has personal interest in making sure your intended design comes to fruition.
However, if you absolutely must be tattooed to-day, I would advise that you go to a shop whose artists have no qualms against using flash from the wall and giving you sub-standard bodily decorations. Sweet Cicely will first require you to schedule a free consultation, during which she will assess your personal tattooing needs, send you on your way, and take some time in designing your art. She will then confirm the design with you, and make any changes you require.
Being somewhat socially awkward, I wholeheartedly appreciate that Sweet Cicely puts me at ease, and we always have very stimulating conversation. This is rather important, especially if you have a large design that requires many hours in the chair.
The price of $120 per hour is very reasonable, considering certain other shops who charge more money for a lesser caliber of tattoo.
I have 3 tattoos and have gotten them all here! Sweet cicely did my first one and was sooo patient with me b/c i was sooo nervous and kept changing the placement. $60 is the shop minimum and although my 2nd and 3rd tattoos are the size of nickels it was well worth it they're cool people to talk too and aren't pissy like some of the people over on haight. my next tatoo will be coming from them.
Review Source:I adopted a sassy little cat from the SF SPCA when I was 9. Â She was my first non-reptilian/amphibious pet (I had frogs and turtles and fish before her). Â
We named her Muffin and she totally lived up to the name by being quite the little feline diva. Â My parents and I added to her diva-ness by spoiling her to pieces, and she thanked us (to my mother's horror) by occasionally (albeit proudly) leaving dead mice for us at the foot of the stairs!
Muffin's been dead for over 5 years now.  I still miss that fluffy lump of love and  felt I was ready to pay a little tribute to her via tattoo while increasing my awesomeness quotient ten-fold.
I called Cicely over a month ago to discuss my vision. Â She and I went through a couple of rounds of revisions on the design, and I got the beautiful outline forever etched into my skin last week!
I hella hella HELLA luv it! Â Did I mention I hella luv it?
Cicely's like, ridiculously cool, draws and tattoos beautifully and is a total cat lover! Â I trust her completely and can't wait to get the color and shading done!
:D
I have had work done by both Jason and Cicley.
Their lines are good and the colors are solid.
Their Attidute is an A++++++.
They are really clean, professional and personable.
The tattoos I have had done by them are by far the best tattoos I have. They have done beautiful work on my wife and several of my friends.
They are also great artists in mediums other than skin to top it off.
I really can't say enough about these two.
So, skip the rock-star BS and go get great work done for a fair price with out any attitude.
When I first saw Jason Stein I was both confused and relieved. Â His shop is full of very graphic, raw images, most of them vibrant and detailed, but a bit scary nonetheless. There is nothing scary about Jason however, quite the contrary, he is pleasant, caring and unassuming, very refreshing for the typically "hardcore" attitudes of mission district tattoo parlors.
I have had two very significant designs tattooed by Jason Stein, and I am more than happy with each of them. From the consultation to the design work , and actual placement of ink, Jason is deliberate, knowledgeable and unafraid to share his opinion. Having seen and executed a vast array of tattoos, his opinion is well-formed, and very much worth taking into consideration.
Jason is exact, and has the ability to alter images and designs by hand with impressive accuracy. He also has a particular talent for original artwork. I gave him several drawings of my own, and asked him to combine them all into one bold, clear, powerful symbol. Â
Despite a rather obtuse request, he was able to produce exactly what I was looking for on the first try! I went in to consult with him, and had the design tattooed that very day.
No such luck these days, for Jason is far too booked. I guess the word got out that he is creative, precise, and timely. Trust me, when you are paying by the hour, it matters!
An appointment will be necessary in advance to get a tattoo with Jason Stein, but it is entirely worth it. Go in and give him a challenging assignment, he will probably surprise and impress you with his art.
Went to have an old tattoo 'touched up' by Jason recently. Â He did a bang up job - it now looks better than it did when it was originally done. Â I was so happy with his overall demeanor and skill that I've booked myself in for something new. Â The shop itself has plenty of interesting stuff to look at and if you get bored there's always the great view of Valencia St.
Review Source:I got two pieces done at this shop and my experience there was fantastic! Â The minute I walked into the shop, I was greeted with a smile. Â Both of my ink works were done by Sweet Cicely. Â She was outstanding, very professional, friendly and very enthusiastic. Â From the first time I met her you could tell that she loves tattoos and loves tattooing and it shows in her work. Â All I had to do is give her an Idea and she flew with. Â She has a high attention to detail and makes sure your time there was enjoyable. Â I would suggest this shop to anyone planning or thinking about getting a tattoo. Â Great shop!
Review Source:i love sweet cicely!!! she listens, she is patient, she totally knows her stuff, she let me be the ultra nightmare picky custom tattoo customer that i am. we worked together on designing my leg tat for ages before actually getting down to ink. i don't even know if 'I' would have put up with me after all that. three sessions later (its a big piece) i have another amazing tattoo that is making me want to go skirt shopping.
both her and jason have quite the collection of toys, art, chazarai and a jungle of plants that make sitting in the antique dentist chairs staring at the walls for hours on end a ton easier. not that i wasn't having a good time--we were laughing so much jason told us we were having too much fun over there. watching the street traffic on valencia and 16th is great tv too. kudos to both of them for having good taste in music.
thanx cicely for your attention to detail and for being the kick-ass talented chick that you are. thanx jason for your two cents during paper to skin application and for making the music work while cicely was making my ink work.
I love this shop. Its location above all the 16th & Valencia madness maintains a safe and sterile distance while giving the space rad character . Â The rich and colorful interior charms with a plethora of religious paraphernalia, diverse flash, knick knacks, books, design work, and unicorn paintings, all gathered in a way to create a homey yet evocative environment.
As one of two main artists (guest artists set up shop every once in a while), Sweet Cicely pays tremendous heed to your tattoo needs and concerns, showing a real enthusiasm for designing. She's an awesome listener with a sharp sense of detail and concise execution. Â Since I haven't gotten (professionally) tattooed in some time, I really appreciated her specific instructions on after-tattoo clean up and care, which I greatly attribute the smooth healing process to. Â Totally fun and engaging, I couldn't recommend Cicely or her shop more!
