I had been wanting a specific tattoo for a couple years but was hesitant. I saw an offer on Amazon Local and knowing their standards, thought I'd give it a go for my first tattoo. The only reason I cannot give 5 stars is because Mark was a little late to my appointment and by the time he set up, he didn't get started until about 45 minutes after my appointment time.
Other than that, the service was great and I'm completely happy with my tattoo (which is about 3x4 inches and took just over an hour). Mark is to the point and cares a lot about his work. I'm not sure I'm ready for a second tattoo just yet, but from my first experience, I would recommend Mark's work to anyone looking for some new ink.
I bought the Groupon and had Mark do 2 tats. Although the work is professional his customer service skills leave a lot to be desired... no call backs.... no email returned, plus the amount he applied toward the groupon is very subjective ... the smaller tat I first got used up more that half of the $400 value and the larger color one left me with a $30 credit still. I don't think I will go back. Besides he didn't even show me on the schedule after I made the appt in person. He was able to take me anyway because the other person didnt show .... these are my first tattoos and I'm guessing I can get much better service elsewhere .
Review Source:Don't listen to the complainers. I have gotten 2 tats here in the last 7 months and I received excellent service and top notch work both times. If you're looking to have your hand held and your every wish catered to, go find a hotel downtown. If, however, you're a grown up looking for truly first rate artists, go to Hip Hop Robot!
Review Source:I have been a customer of the Robot since their old shop opened up two years back. I still am getting tattooed by Mark and every time I leave the shop I am 100% satisfied and happy. Mark is a very humble and understanding tattooist; Which is important, because majority are not. Hip Hop Robot has great service, the staff is very friendly/polite, and it has a nice CLEAN atmosphere (Mark makes sure to follow full procedure of keeping everything sterile).
Definitely a great place to get tattooed; whether you are a first timer or have been getting tattooed for years!!
Like many of the respondents. I bought the Groupon to this place. And I found the service and experience to be an utter joke. I posted a negative review, previously, but took it down after Mark called and assured me he cares about his customers and would make it right by me...
Seriously, he showed that he is all talk...
Well, even after my attempts to follow up; nothing... Unless, you count Mark's email account getting hacked and a scammer user emailing me asking to borrow money.
Go elsewhere! They have talented artists, but their service skills seem to be a total joke.... After all the crap, I am only to happy to leave the negative review and use a better shop... It is, at least, good to know that Seattle has no shortage of more qualified and talented artist who actually do care about service quality too.
It took me a while to determine what I wanted to get as a tattoo and when I finally did I went in to go and see Mark. When I got there he was willing to fit me into a tight schedule since I was leaving in a week for San Francisco. He was able to get me into the shop the next day to get the work done. While there it took a minute to get the art work ready but when he finally had it ready, it went very nicely. He gave me a few breaks to let my arm rest from getting a tattoo. He was very helpful in instructing me how to keep my colors from fading and keeping the tattoo nice and clean. He was very helpful and I would definitely recommend Mark's work to anybody who wanted to get their tattoos done.
Review Source:These guys are the best. Â The shop is squeaky clean and sanitary. Â The prices are very fair. I had a ribcage tattoo done, and being somewhat of a prude, I was a little hesitant about having my shirt up for several hours in the middle of a tattoo shop. Â Their workspace is private, and I did not feel threatened or uncomfortable for a second while Mark was working on my tattoo. Â They very patiently answered all of our questions. Mark drew something up for both my tattoo, and my husband's and we are both amazed at his level of attention to detail and workmanship. Â We're both sold on this place, and will definitely be going here for our future tattoos.

Review Source:I purchased a Groupon for these guys....$190 for a $400 tattoo. Â We did research on Hip Hop Robot before purchasing and were more than impressed with the reviews! Â But after purchasing on Sept. 10, it is now October 21 and we still don't have an appointment set up. Â This is not due to them being so busy they're booking this far out, it's because they won't get back to us! Â We called spoke with both Mike and Mark...being assured a call back, but days and weeks go by without a return phone call. Â I can say Mike was very nice on the phone and I was excited to have him do my husbands tattoo....but unfortunately customer service is not high on their priority list and I don't trust their professionalism due to what they've already represented. Â Thankfully Groupon refunded my money.
Review Source:I was really excited when Groupon offered a deal for this tattoo shop. Â I read all the other reviews and was feeling really good about it until I actually went for the consultation. Â The artist didn't really seem interested in helping us, he basically told me to design my own tattoo and e-mail it to him and then when I tried to schedule the actual appointment I was told to text their shop number. Â I tried this and didn't get answer for two days and even then it was "Sorry. Been busy. Will get back to you." Â This was 4 days ago and I still haven't heard anything back. Â I contact Groupon and received a refund because this is ridiculous. Â I'll take my business elsewhere. Â I understand there is a certain vibe that goes along with tattoo subculture but you are also running a business. You need to be professional. Â I'd never go back and would never recommend them.

There are a lot of frilly coments I could waste my time typing but I believe my time is better spent getting another sitting on 1st & Lucile. Waste time elsewhere if you must but in the end dealing with the best in style and attitude will bring you to Hip Hop Robot.

I recently lost my mother and came up with a general concept of the memorial piece that I wanted a tattoo of. I visited Hip Hop Robot and felt extremely welcomed by Mark, the owner and operator, and he spent some time sketching out my thoughts. Two days later I went in for my tattoo appointment and was blown away by his attention to detail and his passion for his work. I'm thankful for an awesome piece that will always remind me of my mom.

Â He has high standards about who works in his shop, which meant that I was also willing to get an eyebrow and nipple piercing from his piercer. I went in on a recommendation from a friend and was very pleased. Â Mark is very professional, and his work rocks! Â His lines are super straight and clean.

I've had two tattoos done by Mark Bentley before he moved to this location and would've followed him here had I not moved out of state. He is a wonderful tattoo artist and definitely stresses the importance of cleanliness, which I love because I've had bad experiences before and am very paranoid about that. Both the tattoos that he's done on me in the past, one of them taking a quarter of my right arm, are absolutely beautiful, and this is two years later. I would even consider coming back to WA to get tattooed by him when I'm ready to get tattooed again just because I trust him that much and love the work he's done in the past. He's a nice guy, is clean, and does great work, makes sure you get exactly what you want. What more could you want?

This was my first tattoo and I brought in a piece of paper that had the image I wanted printed on it and told Mark Bentley where I wanted it, how big and which direction and in about 15 minutes he had a PERFECT sketch of it.
So being my first tattoo i was extremely nervous as I don't handle pain and anxiety very well. I asked him a few questions and he answered fully and professionally. During the tattoo I asked him to stop for just a moment and he obliged and was extremely courteous.
Mark is a fantastic artist. I was not in any way let down. He really brought my idea to life and gave me the tattoo that I wanted. His line work is amazing and the tattoo looks exactly like the image.
The shop was clean and the equipment was sterile. I could tell Mark was doing his absolute best to keep things that way as well. He was friendly, funny and an amazing artist. I WILL be going back there for a second tattoo and I have already been praising his work to my friends.
The work was well priced too. It wasn't too expensive and it was certainly not too cheap (hey, cheap tattoos usually are cheap for a reason) It was worth every penny paid!

Mark is my new fabulous Tat artist. Â He took his time and was very detailed while working on my sleeve. Â It was my Bday and he was very cool about my friend taking pictures, my cell phone blowing up and my need to talk and laugh the entire time. Imagine a complete stranger walking into your tattoo shop with an actually dandelion, a bird necklace, and a general idea of what she wants for her first tattoo... well, that was me. Instead of laughing at my randomness, Mark instantly flew with my ideas and produced a few sketches which both incorporated my ideas as well as his, which to be honest, were better then mine. Close to 8 hours later (in 3 sessions) and weeks of healing I have a tattoo that I LOVE!
Make is extremely artistic, talented, professional, personable, honest, responsible, reasonable , communicative, down to earth, and easy going. All things I feel are important in someone giving you a tattoo.
He took his time making sure everything was correctly sized and placed on my body (which is important considering the permanence of a tattoo). He somehow made what I thought was going to be very very painful, hardly painful at all.
The shop is not super fancy, though is quite great! There is rotating local artists that fill his space with amazing art. There is a TV that you can watch DVD's on while getting inked, or an I-POD hook up to listen to your music. I did bring my own pillow to snuggle with while getting inked.
Oh, and his staff... I almost forgot to mention them. AMAZING! Jason is such a sweetheart and is hilarious, a great combination when you are in pain while getting a tattoo. He even went and got me McDonald's when I realized I needed food. They were transitioning to a new piercer, but from what I saw, Chris is also very talented and dedicated to excellence.
To sum it all up:

I just don't know where to start! I stopped into Hip Hop Robot one night on a whim and started talking with the staff. They were extremely personable and impressed me right away with how well they knew their stuff. Â I expressed interest in getting a helix punch, and they assured me they could do it, but since they had just opened, that it may take awhile to get the the supplies. It took over a month for everything to come in, but they kept me updated every step of the way, calling me regularly to keep me updated. Â Finally they phoned to let me know everything was ready whenever I was. So I walked on down (another rad thing about this place is that it's three blocks away from my house) for the procedure. The piercer Chris is so friendly and calm and just has an overall great personality- there's not a lick of pretentiousness anywhere near this place. He got me set up, walked me through proper aftercare procedures, and answered any questions that I had. He took ample amount of time marking and remarking the area to make sure that the positioning was perfect. He remained calm and patient and sweet even when I started to get nervous. The procedure went so quickly and smoothly, it was amazing; a punch, taper, and jewelry insertion in a matter of seconds. Not only was this one of the best modification experiences I've had to date, but their price for it was about 1/3 of what I was expecting to pay. I also picked up a killer pair of plugs for a more than reasonable price (and I do NOT buy jewelery from shops). To sum it up, I recommend these guys to anyone and everyone, especially folks who may be nervous or have ever had a negative experience somewhere else. Thank you Chris and HHRT SO much! You've got a customer for life :)
