Fav shop in atlanta! I've been tattooed by Rachel, Joey and Sten. They all do great work and are so helpful at making my vision come alive especially when I myself am not an artist and sometimes am all over the place describing what I want. Clean and relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is willing to talk to you and not make you feel awkward as I have experienced at other shops. The prices are also so reasonable for the work!! Check them out ASAP :)
Review Source:I wanted to get my first tattoo of a butterfly on my wrist. I checked yelp and this place had great reviews. I also talked to two friends who have sleeve tattoo's and they said that this is where they get their artwork done. Â I went one Saturday afternoon. To my surprise it wasn't super packed. I brought a picture of what I wanted and the artist told me for the size that I wanted she would have to modify it. After 20 min she had it drawn up and ready to get me started. For my first time at a tattoo parlor I was extremely happy with the promptness and great customer service. I definitely will come back if I get the urge for another tattoo.
Review Source:Jake did me. hehehehe. Went here after a day and night of drinking mainly because my friend wanted a nose piercing. This was her 1st so he took some time with her and explained stuff(idk) bla bla bla.
I decided to get my navel pierced for theTHIRD time. My 1st piercing closed so i went to a place in Marietta where they said because there was scar tissue, they couldnt re-pierce/reopen the 1st one so they did a 2nd hole and it was lop-sided!! I explained to Jake and he said scar tissue aint shit(well not in those words but u know what i mean).
He was talking to me and I was busy posing for pics and before I knew it, he had poked me :D
He was able to reopen the 1st piercing!!! I dont think ill be getting anymore piercings but if I do, I will def ask for Jake he aint no wham bam thank you maam kinda guy. More like a smooth operator :P Yeah he's super cuttteeeeeeeee
A friend came into town and wanted a quick spur of the moment tattoo! I took them to Southern Star at first but we were turned off by an unfriendly atmosphere and unreasonable price. I should have taken them to Liberty in the first place where I've gotten several tattoos over the years and have never been disappointed! As soon as we walked in, the shop manager greeted us and made us feel welcome and taken care of, and set us up right away. The warm, happy feelings encouraged me to get a quick tat too, and I worked with Tad who listened carefully to what I was looking for and drew up a sketch that was even better than the mental image I had. He was friendly, professional, and did an adorable tattoo on me which I love for a more than fair price. All of my friends were equally satisfied with their impulse tats and I think they left Atlanta with a positive feeling about our tattoo scene! If you're looking for a place for a great, well priced walk-in tat (or more elaborate piece!), you should choose Liberty.
Review Source:They are open until midnight. This may be the start of a bad decision as you're staring at the tattoo shop while drinking a beer from the Local across the street. I can imagine guys waking up with a butterfly tramp stamp and looking through their phone to figure out what happened.
I had been talking about a rook piercing for a long while now, and finally decided "Fuck it, let's go." I was surprised by how many people were getting tattoo at 11pm, but it reaaallly made me want another tattoo, like right then. I stuck with my guns as I waited for the girl in front of me to finish getting her lip pierced. The piercer was Jake, and he was awesome. Extremely helpful and enthusiastic about what he does. He explained all the tools and was meticulously clean. He had a good sense of humor and made the painful painless. I highly recommend him as he makes you feel comfortable, and even says to call with any question no matter how stupid it may seem.
The best inking experience.
Look, you are going someplace, to people you don't know, to get something permanent on your body. Â You have to have trust. Â The environment is clean, the staff is friendly, the artwork is amazing.
I have had a design a friend drew for me for 13 years (yes, you heard me). Â I have been wanting it tweaked, but my previous tattoo artist fell off the map and trying to figure out how to find a new one has not been easy - this isn't like a bad haircut that can grow back in. Â So I have been interviewing my tatted friends for years - then I found Rachel.
She and I discussed the artwork I had, she listened intently to the changed I wanted, how I wanted the piece to look, where I wanted it (size, orientation, colors, shading, etc.). Â I explained I had a goal to reach in order to get the tattoo. Â She was down with it and was excited for me.
Finally the day came and in I went - she had sketched the final drawing, placed it on my back and we were off. Â Rachel has a light touch and is quick about it (as she says - she has so many tats of her own, she knows how it feels. Â Why should she lallygag?). Even though she works with purpose, she has an amazing attention to detail and is not rushing. Â My tattoo is perfect and didn't hurt a bit.
Post-ink instructions were precise. Â She told me what to expect (a lot has changed in 15 years since my last one) and said if there needed to be any touch-ups, just come back and see her.
We chatted a bit after wards and found we like the same bars, and even started talking about my next tattoo. Â Yeah, I'm a fan and will be back. Â Definitely go see Rachel!
I've been going to Rachel for about a year now and she's amazing. I won't go to anyone else. She's creative and draws everything out and will adjust anything to your liking. I just booked my 3rd tattoo with her and I'm beyond excited. She has also done a few of my friends and they have great things to say about her as well. She's also easy to talk to and not heavy handed. I recommend her to everyone that asks where I get my work done at.
Review Source:Been here a few times. Im on my second tattoo at this place-both done by Ben. I love both of them so far. The second one that is currently being worked on-he free handed and it is really really nice. It is a very large piece which covers the whole side of my left leg from my hip to right above my knee. The first one done by Ben is a half sleeve on my arm and I get alot of compliments on it when 'I'm out. While I was waiting to get more work done on my leg the last time I saw Ben finish a half sleeve on another girl and it was a gorgeous design. Almost made me want the same art on my other arm, but Im not into copy catting. I prefer an original design that has personal meaning to me.
Ben is a great artist and is very skilled in free hand designs and larger, more detailed works of art. So if your coming in for something unique and even bold Id recommend  Ben to do your ink. You wont be disappointed. Going back in soon to get the leg finished. It is very large so I couldn't get it done all in one session. Cant wait to see the end result. I am loving it so far. I stare at it alot.
Sincerely,
Happy Customer
Since Liberty gave me my first Tattoo.. I wont be too harsh however I didn't appreciate how my friends were recently treated. They were so excited to get their tattoos. They went in there and told the lady their idea. They were immediately shot down by this woman. She said it was impossible. Everything they suggested she shot down. At times she wouldn't even let them finish their sentences just cut them off with a no. What? Her attitude was.. no matter what you say it can't be done. They later researched this and found out.. well looks like it can be done.. everyone is doing it actually. Hmmmmm something doesn't smell right Liberty... But I do thank you for my first tatt.. it was done 2 years ago and still looks new. i still get compliments on it. I only wish you treated my friends with the same experience you gave me.
Review Source:My wife and I were in atlanta for a week and decided to get a tattoo. We drove around and checked out different spots. Â We came to liberty and met with a short guy with tats everywhere and a bald head. Very cool dude. He gave us a estimate of the work we wanted and said we could come back in a few hrs or the next day. We came back the next day, a Friday at like 1pm. The wait was supposed to be an hr which turned into 2 hrs if not more. Everyone was nice. Rachel did our tats and I really like mine. My wifes is cool. She didn't talk at all while doing the work so bring your own support or an ipod. Have your own design because asking her to be creative and come up with something is like pulling teeth. Our wait coulda been cut down if the owner would have done at least one of us, but he said he had 2 big tats to do later and had to draw them out. But he just sat there and when 2 chicks came in he did one of them a one word tat on the neck and then he left. the place is super clean though. The estimate we got meant nothing. Each artist charges their own price. 200 for a 8 letter name on my chest in script, my wife a seven letter name on her arm with our wedding date and the gay female symbol in lettering close to block.
Review Source:Scott did a tattoo for me and a good friend at nearly 1:00. On a whim we stopped by in the middle of the night with intentions of getting small matching tattoos, Scott helped us pick a design and location. He was very helpful in telling us what color inks would take well to our darker skin tones. We got orchids on our lower side that are nearly an inch and  half. I really like my piece but I plan on going back to get it touched up.
Review Source:I finally built up the nerve to get the tattoo I've been wanting for over a year a few days ago. To be completely honest, Liberty was not my first choice when I decided to get a tattoo. I chose it after the first local shop was not able to work me in. However, it is the first place I'm going when I get my next one.
The staff was very helpful; although the shop was busy they greeted me promptly and assisted me as soon as they were able. We looked at several pictures of the idea I had, and they drafted a couple different versions of the tattoo (including different sizes). I was able to basically try on the stencils and decide which I liked the most.
My artist was Shay. He was not only nice and helpful, but extremely gifted at what he does. The final version was more than I could have imagine: the color, shading and texture look phenomenal.
After everything was complete he went over detailed care instructions, and I even got a care package complete with a sticker and a lollipop.
I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a great tattoo to check this place out.
I love love love Liberty! I've gotten my last four tattoos there - two by Rachel, one by Joey, one by a dude who I don't remember the name of. They're always helpful, always listen, and the environment is just nice to be in when you're getting a tattoo. A lot of my tattoos were pretty small but they never made me feel like a dick for getting something so little. My most recent tattoo (by Joey) took 4.5 hours and I was so impressed with the homework she did for it - I came in the week before with one reference picture and when I came back for my appointment, she'd pulled up multiple more online and hand drawn me a whole new design. I'm totally in love with all of my tattoos, especially my most recent. I send people here all the time - if you're looking to get a tattoo I definitely recommend them.
Review Source:My niece and I got tattoos here. Â I looked at reviews of several places and decided to stop by here since it did tattoos and piercing.
All of the employees were super helpful. Â My niece was not sure if she wanted a tattoo or a navel piercing, so we looked at tattoos for a long time. Â Two different employees checked on us and offered suggestions, but were never pushy. Â We both got our tattoos hand drawn after showing them a few things we liked by Scott.
This place is clean, staff is helpful and informative. Â I not only was pleased with the service here but enjoyed it.
My friend and I went to Liberty this past weekend. It was more of a walk in but we knew exactly what we wanted. I was tattooed by Sten who was very personable and helpful. He knew a great deal about placement of tattoos. I got "Laissez le bon temps rouler" on the inside of my left foot.  Sten told me how small I could go without the letters becoming blotchy in the future. I brought in an image of the letters in the font I wanted  and he modified it a little so it would look great as it aged. Placing the tattoo on the inside of my foot, Sten warned that the foot changes texture and if I put it more on the rough part, it would fade really easily and will most likely look bad in the future. I moved the wording higher up on my foot where it is softer to avoid this.  I changed the placement on my foot about 4 times and worried I would annoy him. Sten reassured me that it's no problem because "it is your body and I have to be happy with it". He didn't mind changing the placement or making suggestions for the curves in the lettering. I am happy that he did not become aggravated or impatient, like some other artists who have tattooed me in the past. My tattoo turned out great and have gotten so many compliments on it. Sten line work is so clean and his work is very detailed! After the tattoo was finished, he gave me a care kit with directions for my tattoo, ointment, and his business card. He told me to call him in I had any questions about how to care for my tattoo..Liberty Tattoo was super clean and professional! Even though it was pretty crowded in there(which to me is a good sign of an amazing business), my friend and I were not waiting for long and we still got personal attention we needed from the artists!  I will most likely get tattooed by Sten again in the future!
Review Source:I decided on a sorta whim (read: finally got the nerve and wanted to pounce before I chickened out again) to get a tattoo. My husband took me where he got his tat years ago, but they couldn't fit me in that night. Having mentioned I wanted to get it while the gettin' was good, we went to Liberty as recommend by the artist at our first stop.
Rachel-Anne did my tattoo. The whole staff was friendly and patient (especially at close to 11PM) and took the time to make sure I knew the precautions of where I got my ink (foot) and how to care for it. If I ever get another tattoo, I'd definitely return!
My daughter had been begging me to get her bellybutton pierced for some time. Â While visiting ATL, I decided on a whim to let her go ahead and get it done while on summer break. Â We pulled into the first place we saw, which was Liberty. Â Man, we were so lucky. Â The staff really took the time to explain proper care of the piercing and made sure that we had their info so that we could call once we returned home in case we had any additional questions or concerns. Â Great service!
Review Source:My friend and I wanted to get a simple tattoo that we've wanted for years to commemorate being best friends for almost 13 years. I loved the staff here who were willing to sit and listen to what we wanted and even let my friend (who is an artist) draw out the tattoo a few dozen times before we sat down to do it.
We worked with Shack there and I was really impressed with the skill I saw from him and the other tattoo artists. They're clean and talented and in a great location in Atlanta, so if you're looking for ink go here!
It is difficult to write a review about a tattoo studio because there isn't one person in the studio that does the work. A studio is only as good as the artists in it. So all the great reviews you're reading are about the great artists that work there. That said, the artists build the rep of the studio, and a good studio rep brings good artists.
Thus the cycle continues.
Liberty is a clean shop with talented artists. Don't get there late, or you'll have to wait!
These folks do amazing work - best group I've seen in Atlanta. Everyone is friendly, skilled, and creative. My wife, my best friend, and I have all had work done by the same guy - Chris. He's a creative artist who does great custom work.
Update: Since this was written, all of the artists from Liberty have quit and opened a new shop together, across the street from the old one. The new one is called Southern Star Tattoo. 736 Ponce in the MJQ parking lot.
I've been going here for about 5 years now. Shay is an amazing artist. He does great custom work. I've gone in several times with a vague idea of elements I want in the tattoo and he always come through with a cohesive, original and gorgeous design. You can't go wrong with the artists in this studio and I've heard rumors that another one is opening on Boulevard
Review Source:liberty tattoo, i love you! Â my first love in tattoo shops. Â i get stopped in the streets, in traffic, and have appointment long conversations (i do hair) about my tattoos. Â this shop has a totally laid back vibe and an easy to find central location on Ponce de leon ave. Â between myself and my friends, we have seen every tattoo artist in the shop. shaye, khaki, bill, chris, keet, demian, and eric are all amazing, have a wicked sense of humor, and have their own personal styles. Â each artist will help you decide on the best direction to take your personal piece of art. they are honest about how it will look and the best area of your body to put it. Â i highly recommend liberty tattoo!!
Review Source:I recently got a tat here in August of last year and short and sweet, they kinda rock. lol
No really though, the guys are really friendly, the tattoo I received by Demian was done really well, and I can't complain about the price I paid at all.
I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for some good if not great artwork. I've only gotten one tattoo from them so far but i've seen everyone elses work and love it, and I definitely plan on going back.
