Compared to all the eyebrow ladies I've experienced in LA / NYC / Bay - Rani is head and shoulders above the rest. She is quick and at the same time precise.
Apparently word is out about her eyebrow grooming skills as the wait to see her is long....even during awkward times when everyone should either be in school or at work.
Waited for an hour to see her on a Thursday in early afternoon.. She's worth it and her prices are very reasonable.
Everything the reviewers said is true and it was nice to know in advance....parking stinks, the building and stall Rani rents are ghetto, the wait is long.
That said Rani is awesome!!! Â I've had my brows threaded by 10+ women and had very mixed experiences. Â But Rani nailed my tricky right brow and evened it up with the left. Â And she was fast and totally painless. Â Very impressive. Â She is sweet and I wish I we could have talked more but there were 6 women waiting so no time for chit chat.
BTW, Rani is the 4th stall on the left. Â It would be easy to be tricked by that sign out front and end up at the salon in the first stall on the right.
Upon my laziness to keep up with my brows, they were in desperate need of some help. New to San Francisco, I decided to Yelp around. I stumbled across Rani's amazing $5 threading for eyebrows, $3 for lip and couldn't pass it up.
Let me just say, I've been getting my eyebrows waxed by the same person, at the same place since the first time I was ever allowed to get them done (circa 2009), so you can imagine how sketched out I was getting another person to do my eyebrows atop of threading them for the first time.
I visited Rani about a month ago for the first time and let her thin them out just a bit. I was surprised how little it hurt and was even more surprised with the outcome of the amazing shaping she'd done.
I was so impressed, I visited her a second time yesterday (Wednesday, Sept. 11). This time I decided to get my lip done along with my eyebrows (a total of $8, not including tip). I have to say, threading my lip hurt like a biznatch! However, it came out as clean and as smooth as a baby's bottom.
Rani has been waxing for a little over 28 years and is AMAZING at what she does! I'll be going back once these facial caterpillars of mine grow out once again.
This lady really does take her time w/a full face threading, but the eyebrows turned out a bit thinner than usual. Â There was a long wait. Â I guess that happens when a business has 4.5 Stars on Yelp. :/
1 star for service
1 star for price
1 star for cleanliness
1 star because this guy came around selling fruits from his cart w/chili seasoning and lemon. Â It made the wait a little easier to handle. :)
P.S. Â I also only came here because of free or easier to find parking because I was on a scooter. Otherwise, I don't really go to this area of the Mission District with a car.
Rani is meticulous and tries her best. Her prices are insanely cheap. I basically got my entire face done for less than what it would cost elsewhere to do just my upper lip.
Her studio is tucked away in a hallway shopping center that I accidentally walked past the first time. Looking at the pictures someone posted helped.
Since her place is so small the people waiting to go next are sitting practically less than five feet away from you. By the time I was done the seats were filled and I felt awkward having my face freshly de-haired so close to everyone.
If her place didn't make me feel so claustrophobic, I'd go more often.
Girls, this is your go- to place!!
As an experienced thread-er, I was delighted that I found Rani :) She really threads Magic. Truth. So much so, that I'm writing a review, and this is a first!
Rani is quick, thorough, kind and miraculously makes the threading process pretty painless (I write this to any of you that feel the need to take an advil before going to get threaded. Don't need to take it anymore if you go to Rani :))
She's in the heart of the Mission, so don't expect complimentary champagne... but honestly, for a great thread, all you need is that! Thread and a good eye. Keepin' it simple. No frills needed.
So so so happy I found Rani! Thank you!
$5 for a nice, clean, and pretty thorough threading, what a deal. it's a bit hidden (down a hallway in a building off of mission).
she takes her time and tries to get everything, which is great; she's not the best at shaping eyebrows (so just expect more of a clean up), but it's definitely not bad.
Eye Brows and Hair....only certain people can touch!
I am usually very cautious about who touches my eyebrows and wanted a threading place instead of waxing. It is very difficult to find someone I trust with my hair and eyebrows. I had no choice because I needed my brows threaded and my regular threader was out of town. Female emergency!?! Not really, but I needed my eyebrows done, so I decided to try Rani after reading the reviews. I chose her because she was nearby. I walked in a little hesitant, because of the location, but I tried not to don't judge the location. She listened to what I wanted and did a great job!
Came here a second time after getting my eyebrows waxed in another location (and having them done very haphazardly). I showed Rani an pic of my eyebrows when I had loved them, and she did her best to get them to look the way I had loved them.
I walked away being 90% satisfied. She was so meticulous and careful. I will do my best to maintain the shape as much as possible on my own, but if unsuccessful, will definitely be back to see Rani!
I love Rajni at Rani ThreadMagic. She does an awesome job with threading. I have been going to her for over a year and I haven't once been disappointed. Most times I've been lucky with being the only one there or the first person in line. The area and place may not be fancy but it's totally worth the trek and the price. =)
Review Source:I was really excited to try this, and REALLY wanted it to be good. I even convinced myself the whole way there that you don't always get what you pay for. Turns out, HERE you do. Rani takes forever , and other comments saw her magnifying glass and time spend as a patience and professional bonus- turns out it isn't, she just doesn't know what she's doing. I have been threading for years, and with Rani I left with one eyebrow higher than the other hair completely choppy, half were cut too short the rest not groomed at all flying all over the place. Hair grew back literally after 2 days- so she doesn't thread with power so it just gets chopped at the top and not pulled at the root.
Sad - but disappointing. The time you waste and the frequency you would have to go to keep yourself groomed - you don't save money :(
Forget about the location (it's not in the greatest neighborhood, but seriously, it's not THAT bad), if you want great service and awesome results, this is the place to come to. I've been threading my eyebrows for over 10 years, and I am impressed with Rani's work. She was very thorough with her work. Did not feel rushed when the line got long. Used a magnifying glass to make sure she got every area. And was very kind. I am also amazed by the prices, especially since we live in such an expensive city! I am switching my loyalty to Rani.
Review Source:This place is nestled in a SKETCH area. I came here after my friend raved about how cheap it was for threading, and as I was quite in need of cleaning up my face with a thin wallet to boot. Everything is handwritten and the threading room is in a semi-abandoned mall/cluster of indoor shops? There aren't any decorations and there isn't any privacy - you just go in and there's one chair in the middle of the room and a bunch of waiting seats around it - you are the entertainment for the next customers, so be sure to give them a show, I guess??
All in all, she was pretty quick and thorough, and the price IS reasonable ($10 including tip) but I did bleed from where she tweezed one eyebrow - not sure if that was more my fault since I was antsy to pay the parking meter though.
for me to write a review, my experience must be incredible or terrible..
and it was incredible.
I am very picky with eyebrow threading. I am indian and know how i like for it to be done. I have been to multiple people in San Francisco and even though she is not as convenient to get to, it's well worth it to get them done by her. She is by far the best I have found.
This is my second time going to Rani Threads Magic. She is absolutely wonderful. She knows what works for my face and she's very thorough (she uses a magnifying glass!). She's very popular so try to avoid after-hours or weekends. I waited an hour for her once but she's so worth it. And you can't beat the price. I always tip her a little extra for it. Â Definitely worth checking out.
Review Source:I LOVE RANI!!
She's great! She has conquered my natural shape and she is very patient. I have been a costumer for her business for over 2 years and her performance has not declined ever since. She does have a waiting line sometimes but it is well worth it!
I am on my way to Rani's shop this very moment..
I went to Rani once before for my eyebrows and she was great! she was very patient and made sure she got every hair out. as everyone else has said, she is so focused, she even uses a magnifying glass! today i went to see her at her new locaton, and got confused/tricked by the people at the fashion emporium and didn't realize i had gone to the wrong suite until i was already sitting on the chair and felt too awkward running to Rani. DONT LET YOURSELF BE FOOLED BY THE PEOPLE TRYING TO TAKE PEOPLE AWAY FROM RANI, THEY ARE BY FAR NOT AS GOOD. =(((((
Review Source:AWESOME!! I have been getting threaded for over 10 years now and am usually just content with the service I receive, including those posh/ upscale threading places where I just usually feel like i'm in a factory line.
Rani is amazing!! She is precise, focused, and very detail-orientated. She wouldn't let me go until she was completely satisfied with her work and how I looked; no matter how long it took. My eyebrows have never been given so much attention!
If you really care about your eyebrows, I wouldn't judge the experience by the neighborhood or the modest space her business is in. Rani is talented, very inexpensive, humble and worth it!!! As I walked out of her salon, I felt confident that my eyebrows were immaculate. Thank you!
Rani definitely knows what she's doing.
I recently had a nightmare experience with waxing and told myself to try threading. I read some reviews and decided to give Rani a try...I am so glad I did.
I don't shape my brows, just clean up and I told her exactly that. She studied them for a bit and then went at it. Rani is friendly, easy to talk to and she definitely listens to what you want.
And all for $5??? That woman definitely got a big ol' Christmas tip!
I'm a huge fan of eyebrow threading and so I'm always looking for places when I move to a new city. Was lucky to discover this place. If you don't mind waiting a bit (she can only do one customer at a time), it's definitely worth the wait. She's a sweet lady who does a very clean job, and I don't think you can find anywhere else cheaper.
Review Source:This woman is a GEM i tell you...and she cannot be beat. Â By that I mean price wise and service wise. Â I've been threading my eyebrows for about 3-4 years now and I must say that I have not met anyone who is as precise as Rani. Â First of all, $5 for eyebrows and $3 for upper lip. Â What?!! I've been paying $10 for eyebrows and $8 for upper lip all this time--crazy! Â It's a bit of a trek for me coming down to the Mission so ever so often when I find the time in my busy schedule, I see Rani. Â I try to go every 2 weeks but sometimes it stretches out but each and every single time....I walk out very pleased with suuuuuper clean eyebrows.
If it's your first time getting your brows done, I highly recommend her. Â If you've gone to other places where its just mehhhhh....I'd highly recommend her as well. Â Oh yeah and a minor detail about her. Â She's so precise that she uses a magnifying glass to catch all the small hairs that were missed. Â I'm regretting writing this review because people will find out about her buuuuuuuuuut she's so great, I MUST spread the word. Â So here it is............the word is spread and I'm sure will go out like wildfire!
I'm so glad she opened up a little nook in a strip mall on Mission. I have always been impressed with the end result of my brows and the price is unbeatable. She is incredibly talented, and a sweetheart. I have no arch on my brows but she manages to add a bit of it there, and work around the bald spots too. Ladies, I know this doesn't seem like a typical place you get your eye brows done because it's no frills, and the door is a mere curtain but trust me - she's amazing. It gets busy during the after work crowd on Fridays so you'll have to wait awhile.
Review Source:Rani is the real deal. She is warm and friendly, and her work is excellent, and it's really only $5 for brows (but who doesn't tip?). Her new location is even better and now she's open on Saturdays, so the wait is shorter. Make sure you walk into the Plaza Del Sol center- it has several vendors inside and she's about the fourth down on the left. Don't be fooled by the imposters who opened up recently next door at the Fashion Emporium- they are not associated with the wonderful Rani!
Review Source:Rani spent a lot of time shaping my full-growth brows and was very nice to talk to.
I was not blown away by the shape she made, which is a shame since she is rated so highly. She does not stop to show you one brow when it is done. Instead she just showed them when both were done. It hurt very little which shows her mastery. There are two cuts caused by the thread. I hope they heal soon. Better than having burns caused by waxing!
She is moving her business soon, so phone and check before you go.
I've always plucked my eyebrows and I've done a few waxing .. heard about this hype that everyone threads their eyebrows now so I've decided to begin my search.
I'm the type of person who thinks "You get what you paid for." For a first timer, I don't want to experience bad service or bad quality, otherwise I will never consider doing something again. I decided that if I want to get what I paid for, I need someone who gets the job done and are professionals. That's when I stumbled upon "Rani Threads Magic" on yelp! She got amazing reviews on yelp and her service is inexpensive -- EXACTLY what I was looking for! Decided to drive up to the Mission area and give it a shot.
Rani threads her magic in the back of her husband's shop in a small room. There isn't much privacy because it's also a "waiting area" for other customers. She sanitizes her hand before every customer and she uses a magnifying glass! Rani is a friendly woman, she tries to do the service as fast as possible. When I first came in, it was during a weekday around noon and luckily there was only one person there (already getting her eyebrows done)! :D While she threaded my eyebrow, she would need me to hold some parts of my head (I guess around the eyebrow area) Â and I'm fine with that, no big deal. I asked for an upper lip & eyebrow threading -- BEST THING EVER!! Inexpensive and there were like no hair left behind (she uses a magnifying glass!!)! She's very precise and when I looked in the mirror, I was so stunned, I just kept saying "Omg!!" in front of my mom. :) $8 for eyebrows ($5) & upper lip ($3) for professional quality eyebrows :D
Definitely coming back here & recommending it to friends!! :)
Wow. Not sure how to feel about this place??
Yes- it's in the back room of a bizarre wholesale-y clothing shop on Mission. The threading "room" is sparse, a salon chair with six collapsable chairs around, a whiteboard with "EYEBROWS" and some phone numbers scrawled on it, and an oscillating fan in the corner. At the center of this operation is Rani, the wife of the owner of the clothing shop who does threading as a bargain basement price of $5.
The accommodations are definitely sparse. And I unfortunately waited about 45 minutes (5 girls deep) to have my brows done. I will say, Rani did an excellent job, but I wasn't too jazzed about the wait. Also- as I was leaving there was a slight altercation with two customers claiming they were the next in line. Obviously word has gotten out about this spot. Maybe Rani should invest in one of those ticket number machines?
Rani is a great threader. I go to her regularly and she has never disappointed me.
She is also very sweet, friendly and warm.
The cost is too cheap so I always give her a huge tip! Everyone else should too! (If you can afford it.) You will see why when you get there. She is a hard worker who always manages to keep her cool. Classy lady!
She is very popular so plan to wait to be seen.
The only complaint I have is the place isn't very nice. But it doesn't stop me from coming back.
Yeah. Rani did a fantastic job and was a real sweetheart about it. Her "shop" is in the dressing room of a clothing store, which threw me off. Â But all the ladies inside looked like professional 9 - 5ers. Â There were about 5 people ahead of me, so I had to wait a while but BOY WAS IT WORTH IT! I will def make the trek from Burlingame for her.
$5 for eyebrows $3 misstache - no unnecessary hair was plucked, and all the unwanted strays are history! She made my eyebrows are perfectly symmetrical (I thought my eyebrow were different for a VERY long time!) and expertly arched (with a little angle at the end, just how I like them). I have semi-thick eyebrows and I grow them out before getting them done since I always seem to have a bad experience with waxing. Usually my eyebrows come out thinner than I would like or they make my arches round which I feel changes my expression. Also, another thing my past waxers do is make a big fuss off my unkempt eyebrows, but it is only because I am growing them out to get them fixed (honestly!).
So, I recommend Rani. Â Hurry, before she raises her prices. Well, as long as her service doesn't change.
What can I say about Rani? She did an incredible job on my eyebrows and because I was not prepared with cash (as it is a cash only place) she did not charge me. Â However, I went back the following day and paid her and tipped her. Â Rani was amazing it was my first time going to her and she was very nice and really quick too.
Tip: its easy to miss this place as it is a clothing store and the threading is done in the back room. Â I passed by the place twice until I finally checked the address.
Updating this since Rani and her husband have closed the clothing store, and she's now working out of the Plaza del Sol. She has a suite towards the back on the left. You can't miss it. Don't be confused and go to the Fashion Emporium next door where a different lady is trying to fish Rani's customers. I went there by mistake and she's not as good as Rani.
Rani is so thorough and detailed, and she still only charges $5!
$5 to thread your eyebrows?!
I've been going to Sandy at Urban Beauty in the sunset, but have noticed the last few times she hasn't been on point and I decided it was time for someone new. I've been threaded a few times before and I wish there were more spots in the Bay Area that weren't in a kiosk in the middle of the mall. Luckily I've found Rani.
Located in Mike's Fashion Store go to the room in the back where Rami has a chair set up. She was very nice and soft spoken and asked if I was familiar with threading. The process seemed to go fast and she was gentle. The other times I have gotten threaded tears would fall down my eyes, but not with Rani which I obviously liked. When she was done threading and a bunch of broken string later (my hair is thick) she plucked a few stray hairs and trimmed my eyebrows. I love my eyebrows and I'll definitely be coming back.
FYI, this is the same place as "Rani Threading Magic" (see here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/…) So I will post this review on both. So, after my lady left my Berkeley threading place, my eyebrows have suffered from broken hairs, ingrown hairs, lopsidedness, and from being too thin.....NO MORE!!! Now that I found Rani, my eyebrows have been rehabilitated!
First of all, she is cheaper than anywhere in the Bay...these are like NY prices (even better actually)! Less than $10 got me eyebrows and upper and lower lips threaded (note-these are nice codewords for my lady mustache). She used a magnifying glass! She was super honest and told my my chin hairs weren't ready to be threaded yet, so to wait rather than waste my money!
She is fast, she is skilled, she is efficient. Â And the man who runs the clothing store is soooo awesome and kind-makes me want to go back to buy some plain t-shirts from there too!
I almost don't want to leave this review because the more people that know about Rani = the higher chance that the wait will be really long next time. Buttttt she deserves this 5 star review, because I haven't been to a single eyebrow threader in SF that can beat her. $5 for eyebrows? An automatic 3 stars. She gets the full 5 stars because not only is she incredibly reasonably priced, she also does an awesome job with my brows every single time. She uses a magnifying glass to make sure each and every stray hair has been shaped to perfection. She doesn't operate from a fancy salon or anything, it's just the back room of her husband's store, but she keeps a clean space and honestly that's all I really care about. You'll be in and out in about 10 minutes anyways. Do your eyebrows a favor and check her out =)
Review Source:Can I just say Rani is amazing?
$5 for eyebrow threading...you really can't beat that.
Rani is very precise and spends time on your brows. She did mine in about 10 minutes and even used a magnifying class to help perfect my brows. Needless to say, I left happy and will be coming back here from now on. The greatest part is I found out she works in Fremont on the weekends and I am moving back there in May. Now I have a permanent eyebrow threader!
AMAZINGLY PRECISE AND INEXPENSIVE
I was a little apprehensive at first, but now I think you'd be silly not to come here. She is a pro and only charges $5.
It is like a mission secret. But she deserves to have her name out there. In the back of a clothing store, her and her husband are very nice and gracious. She really knows what shape works with your face and uses a magnifying glass to look for stragglers. Very thorough.
My new lady, of course!
Since I've moved to SF I usually got waxed for my eyebrows, but I am now just fed up that every person I go to either doesn't shape them well or the hair just grows back way too fast!! So, I looked on Yelp, & found Rani Threads Magic. I'm originally from SoCal & I loved & miss the lady who did my threading. She was amazing!!
To begin, this place isn't even a threading salon, but a clothing store. I went here around 5:30/6ish on a Monday & NO ONE was there other than Rani & her husband. Like people said, her chair is in this little back room, but she has all the supplies of a pro.
Rani is very sleek, patient, & a perfectionist. She asks if you like your eyebrows thick or thin, & then threads carefully & precisely. Afterwards she plucks baby hairs (with a magnifying glass) & scissors off the long hairs. I think what I liked that there was no one there was that she literally took her time. People keep saying she's fast, but she had me for about 15 min or so which is average time.
But what I love the most is that she's $5!!!!!!!!! (Perfect for college students on a budget) My eyebrows are clean & gorgeous. For $5, I have the look of someone who gets their eyebrows done for $20. It's just crazy she only charges that much. I will go to her all the time now because she's just amazing & super cheap.
**The only reason why I gave her 4 stars (wish it could be 4 1/2) was that afterwards my friend said my eyebrows were really red & I did feel some irritated bumps. But they went away within an hour or so.
fantastic! Â backroom of a clothing shop. Â it's so hard to find cheap salon services in san francisco, so this feels like a real gem. Â it's the owner of the clothing shop's wife who actually does the threading, and she is a pro. Â 25 years of threading. Â prices are totally inexpensive. Â so inexpensive and i was so satisfied, i wound up tipping her a bunch. Â moreover, she's really quite pain-free compared to other threaders i've gone to. Â obviously, your eyes will water and such, but she's very gentle and my eyebrows look fantastic. Â when i walked in, there were two women ahead of me. Â i got to see how she did with them as well, and they looked great walking out. Â she apparently also does the full face/lip/etc. Â she always seems to have fantastic smelling indian incense going, and that's about as "salon" as it gets (but more than enough for me.) Â i definitely will be a repeat customer at this price and with such nice people running the place.
Review Source:Tucked into the back room of a nondescript clothing store on the corner of Mission & 20th, I would never in a million years have guessed that a champion threader would be hiding (at bargain basement pricing).
Rani. Â She's magic. Â Quick, exacting (she uses a magnifying glass, for crying out loud). Â Eyebrows? Â $5 in just a few minutes.
When I got there, about 5 women were sitting, waiting in a circle around the one stylist's chair (the word is out!) but it only took about 20 minutes for me to get in and get out. Â Amazing!
Highly, highly, highly recommend. Â Thank you, Yelp, for leading me to Rani.
She is an artist. Â Super cheap: $5. Â She is only open from 10:30-6:30 M-Th, but she talked about adding in Friday.
Very nice. She threads in the back room of her shop, so not salon quality to say the least, but it's very traditional for threading places to do this. Â She takes much longer than most (10 mins), but she seems to be a perfectionist. Â My browns are super thick and she shapes they really well.
First time going to this place based solely on yelp reviews, amazing! The husband and wife were so friendly, and took me right away. Of course I did go on a Monday at 11:30 so I was the first one prob in the store. She was gentle, and thorough. She took her time to make sure they we're even and delivered exactly what I asked. I said keep the thickness just clean up and give back the shape. She was awesome!!! And for 5 bucks she totally beats all the uppity salons I've been to , and all the money I spent! I'm sold, will go back again
Review Source:Never had tried threading before and the small sign saying "$5 eyebrow threading" in the window of Mike's fashion was a little confusing but I entered anyway. I wanted to take a look and figured i could always run out. Rani was threading another woman's brows and they looked good when she was finished! So, I laid down in the chair and was not disappointed! $5 make me holla!
Review Source:Rani works out of a room at the back of her husband's sporty clothing store. Â They are both extremely friendly and welcoming. Â She did a great job on my brows, which were looking pretty crappy because I get a little tweezer-happy sometimes.
She's there Monday - Thursday from 10:30 - 6:30pm and charged me $5 to get my eyebrows threaded. Â She said there's no reason to call first, just go on in.
Beware - do not go in expecting a salon experience - it is a dingy little back room (which I thought was pretty cool). Â She was busy when I was there and I had to wait about 10 minutes before it was my turn (and 3 women were waiting to go after me).
I am stoked I found her and will be going back regularly!
Just called to find out if I could get my eyebrows threaded b/c the reviews are so good. He answered the phone "hello?", unusual for a business, so I said "Hi. Is this Mike's Fashions?" and he said "who is this?". Since I still don't know if I have the right number, I say "Is this a business called Mike's Fashions?" and he says he can't talk to me because I won't tell him who I am and hangs up.
Too bad. I really wanted my eyebrows threaded there. But really? THAT's how you run your business?
