Got my first tattoo done here back in June. Forgot to write a review for the place.
So first of all, I arrived here hoping that they would open on time. They did not. They opened up about 45 mins later after they were supposed to open. I was a little annoyed by that, but whatever.
Got inside, the atmosphere was cozy... For a tattoo shop, that is. Meaning, you're not supposed to feel completely comfortable. You're about to get a tattoo for goodness sake!
Anyway, the women of Beaver are very chill. I was charged $115 for my tattoo, which was a little pricey, but my tattoo had a lot of detail to it. Plus, because it was so clean in here, it was worth it.
I got my tattoo done by Lauren, who was pretty quick, and for the most part, didn't kill me with the needle. And she also kept the conversation going, and allowed me breaks when I needed them, which I greatly appreciated.
Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I look at it and love it every time.
The customer service was good, they're pretty chill but I was not happy with the overall tattoo. I felt cheated when I paid them.. I went to a few tattoo shops afterwards and showed them the work. They pretty much told me I got scammed and that the work was premature to which I agreed. Im probably going to end up doing a cover up on it. Overall I was disappointed since this place got AHmazing reviews.
Review Source:Honestly I wasnt impressed , I went in to ask about some ink, and she showed me some work and it looked ok nothing i would ever put on my body, this review is def premature because i did NOT  get inked by them , This review is only on the customer service and the photos, I didnt feel like a valued customer so I kept  it moving and spent my money else where
Review Source:The women here are so nice and laidback. I was really indecisive about placement and we spent forever going over different options; I never felt pressured or hurried. The sitting itself was so gentle (relatively, obviously!) and their prices are fantastic. I would call and make an appointment next time though, as they are a very small store.
The only possible downside was that they don't allow you to bring someone into the room with you, but that makes sense and is likely standard. They do have a half-door into the studio so anyone accompianying you can watch!
I came to this shop to get my nose pierced. The atmosphere is unique & the piercing experience went well. The price was amazing, $25 (including the jewelry) Now, those are the positives.
The negatives...I came back a month later because I didn't know how to change it to the hoop I originally wanted (which they said I couldn't get when I first pierced it because they have "standard jewelry") Anyway, they wanted to charge me $ for them to change it. Isn't it like piercing CODE that that's ALWAYS free? I couldn't find another place to go to so I came back a week later to find that the piercer was off that day. No problem, but then I came the next day and was told the piercer was off sick. The guy (yes, not an all girl's shop, the "shop keeper" is a guy) gave me the store card and told me "maybe you should call next time to see if the piercer's in"...oh, didn't know that was my job,.
On that note that I haven't gotten a tattoo here, but the pics on their website look pretty nice. Finding a new piercing shop though.
these ladies know their tattoos! got two very detailed lettering tattoos and my tattoo artist, Zoila, did a fantastic job. I would definitely go here again. Also, my friend came with me and he wanted to change his nipple ring so he bought a new one from them and attempted to change it himself in the shop. it started to get red and irritated and wouldn't go through and one of the women helped him get it in free of charge. Super SUPER nice, talented and professional women!
Review Source:Decent tattoo/piercing spot. I haven't been tattooed here, but there was a guy getting one done the day I came in to get my tongue pierced and from the quick glimpse I got, everything seemed legit.
I can't remember her name, but a short cute girl pierced my tongue for me about 6 months ago. The process wasn't as painless as I've heard it can be, but maybe that was my fault. I don't think I was relaxing my tongue as much as I should have been, so the needle went in kinda slowly. At any rate, a piercing is pretty quick so it was over in a few seconds and I had my jewelry. I was kind of swollen for a while, maybe a week or so, and it bruised a little bit, but other than that, everything was fine.
I bought a tongue retainer from the shop for 5 dollars, altho I never got around to using it, and some oral rinse that I think really helped in the healing.
Overall, it was a decent experience at Beaver and I've recommended the shop to friends. Might come back for a nose piercing some time.
I'm surprised that this shop has maintained a relatively low profile on Yelp because honestly, it couldn't be better. Both of my previous tattoos had been done out of town, so when I started looking for a place to get my third, I knew I wanted a reliable shop in Queens where I could stop by whenever I had a new idea. Being a Smith grad, I was swayed by the idea of a shop full of female artists, and decided to get in touch with Dorothy based on some reviews here and a look at her gallery.
The shop is, as others have said, immaculately clean, and they really make the best of a small space so you never feel crowded or uncomfortable. Everyone is friendly and communicative - no moody, sneering people like the last shop I stumbled into. Dorothy was meticulous with the design and placement of my tattoo (taken from a sketch for a bookplate by Bloomsbury artist Duncan Grant) and I was always asked whether things looked right, whether I wanted any changes, etc. After making a few minor changes that improved the look of the design on skin, the work got started with new, sterile needles. My first session took place after I'd already had an unusually long day, and so when my body started to power down on me, Dorothy had no problem stopping and scheduling another session. I never felt any pressure and I was able to listen to my body and therefore heal better and get a better tattoo. Now, after a quick second session, my tattoo is healed up and looks absolutely gorgeous. The design required a lot of detail, line work, and precision, and everything was executed perfectly.
I can't imagine that if I wanted to get another tattoo while in NYC that I'd go anywhere else. I was completely satisfied with every aspect of the experience, and I'm already cooking up ideas for my next piece. Whatever borough you're in, it's worth it to come here and get a great looking, very reasonably priced tattoo without any fuss.
Yay! I went back to Beaver to get my first tattoo...ever!
I had a custom image I wanted and scheduled an appointment with Natalia to get it done. I'd like to think of myself as a bad-ass bitch but I was a little freaked out, primarily because I had no idea what to expect. Natalia was super nice and reassuring and totally made the whole experience really pleasant!
When the job was done...I was just floored with how AMAZING it looked. My tattoo was black and white, yet the detail and shading of my piece was done so beautifully, I literally still can't stop looking at it in the mirror - and its been months!
As I was told would happen, I got bit by the tattoo bug and plan on scheduling my second one with Natalia sometime in the next few weeks. I have absolutely no doubts that experience will be just as great as my first!
As previous reviewers have stated this place is a little out of the way but worth the trip and EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!! I found this shop on yelp and checked out their website and fell IN LOVE with Natalia!! Her attention to details is beyond words!! I am dumbfounded by how amazing my tat turned out to be. I've had 2 previous tattoo by an artist that I thought I loved, but I'm sorry to say Natalia is def my new love and I will be returning to her for many more!!
She does work a little slower than my previous one, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! She pays so much attention to all the little things and she actually cares about the pieces that she's working on, which is really rare to find.
So if you want a tattoo to drool over, then suck up the little extra pain because Natalia is possibly one of the best ones out there and she's only getting better!!!
An girl tattoo shop with extraordinarily talented, authentically kind, patient, and down-to-earth artists, an appropriately  aspeptic environment, and reasonable pricing for the quality of time spent with listening to your desires and exacting them in ink: yes please.
As a book publisher/editor/writer/nerd/worm/lover and out-of-the-closet font geek, it was extraordinarily vital that my artist render the text as closely as possible. Dorothy recently did exactly that, patiently working with me for my particular desires for placement and size of the quote (I mean, it is permanent, after all), and we even managed to combine the nuances of two different fonts: Goudly and Horley Old Style; now Alex S. New Style, etched into my skin, thankfully--because it is just beautiful-- forever.
I highly recommend this shop. It's a bit of a trek--but not too bad--from certain locations in Brooklyn (e.g., an hour + from Clinton Hill) but well worth it. Beaver is an exceedingly rad and pleasant environment without a modicum of pretentiousness, and guarantees top notch results. I've never had a better experience (and I've had a baker's dozen of them or so) at a tattoo or piercing shop.
I got my FIRST tattoos here last night. I had no idea what to expect, and I was really nervous. But alas, this place is great!
I contacted Dominika after seeing on craigslist that she wants to boost her portfolio with pet tattoos. How perfect! I had been wanting to get tattoos of my two rescue kittens. I emailed her and she responded quickly. She was really nice and helpful, and she has cats of her own, which was refreshing. I explained what I wanted and sent pictures of my cats. She drew up the tattoos and emailed them to me. It was like she read my mind. I don't know how she did that. I made the appointment and tried not to psych myself out while I waited.
The shop was really easy to find. I took a bus from the queens center mall and it dropped me off one block from the shop. I was surprised at how nice it was inside. Nothing like the grungy places you see on St. Marks Place. I love that it's an all girl shop. There's something charming about that. They all speak Polish. I used that to distract myself from the pain...by trying to guess what they were talking about.
Anyway, she did an awesome job. I love love love my tattoos. I don't know if I'll be getting any more, but if I do, I wouldn't go to anyone else.
I decided to get my third tattoo here with $40 bucks in my pocket. Luckily I know the guy who owns this place, an all-girl tattoo shop (hint: "Beaver" Tattoo.)
Right off the corner of 94th street, there sits a bench outside of a secluded tattoo shop with a red awning. Of course you can't miss the Harley Davidson motorcycle parked directly outside the front entrance!
You walk in to a lovely aroma of scented candles and a spacious desk with helpful women sitting there to assist you. Yes, you must have your ID to get pierced or tattooed!
On the walls hang beautiful paintings and H.R. Giger statues stand tall behind glass. There are various selections of body jewelry to choose from (my personal favorite the dream-catcher belly-button ring) and they are completely sterile and safe with every piercing and tattoo. Walking past the front desk and behind a door is where the piercing and tattooing is done, with a welcoming and happy atmosphere.
And don't forget, everyone who works in the shop is female, except for the "Beaver Keeper" as they call him. I guarantee you will enjoy your time and money spent in this shop. Check out their myspace above and stop by!
