I came to Senaspace for a unique take on a particular Japanese mythical creature, and couldn't be more satisfied and pleased with the result. Â David listened to my ideas and suggestions, and added his own flavor to the design and just knocked it out of the park. Â With bold, clean lines, and clear, bright colors, the tattoo was done perfectly. Â
If you're looking for someone truly dedicated to their craft, and who is also a professional in every way, Senaspace is the place to go. Â Great tunes and a gorgeous, private, shop environment round out the wonderful experience.
I recently got my first ever tattoo by David. I was incredibly nervous, although thinking about it retrospectively I had nothing to worry about. I did lots of research and knew David was the one I wanted to tattoo me. The studio/art gallery is incredibly clean and his assistant Andrew was especially kind. I'm absolutely in love with my new tattoo, which is also placed perfectly on my ribcage. He's not inexpensive but who wants a cheap tattoo? Â He's honest and won't drag out your time just to make extra $. It actually came out to much less than I initially thought it would be.
David is an artist first and foremost and his work speaks for itself. I have so much respect and admiration for what he does. He's able to turn what he loves to do (and what he's brilliant at) into a career, and this reflects in his work. I feel lucky to have had such a positive experience, and with so much enthusiasm, recommend him to anyone who wants a quality tattoo.
David Sena is a true artist. Â
I was fortunate enough to have him do my first tattoo over 10 years ago and have been spoiled ever since. Â His line work is always perfect. Â His shading is nothing short of artistic. His ability to translate exactly what you want and make it even better is uncanny. Â
His new storefront, SenaSpace is clean, friendly and perfect for tattoo first timers all the way up to old timers. Â The staff is great and welcoming...the music is on point...the front often has beautiful art hanging from all types of artists...what more can you ask for.
When you are getting something on your body that doesn't have an "undo" button and you need it done right the first time...its worth checking out SenaSpace.
I found David years before SenaSpace was open. A mutual friend recommended him as an artist, first and foremost. I was looking for a meaningful collaboration, for someone who could take my ideas for a very special set of tattoos (representing my identical twin sons) and make them beautiful works of art on my body. As a dancer, fitness instructor, and trainer I knew these tattoos would be super visible (on my upper arm), and prominent in my daily life. As most of us do with permanent body art, I took the situation very seriously and had extremely high expectations. That was 5 years (and three large Sena tattoos) ago.
The process in getting my twin tattoos with David was seamless, supportive and resulted in ink that has essentially "branded" my body in the best way possible. David found a way to take my esoteric ideas, listened to my feelings about my baby boys, incorporate an artist influence of my Hispanic (Chilean) background - and weave them all into these twin son/sun tattoos. To this day, the tattoos get an insane amount of attention and I am often recognized because of them; they are sublime and brilliant.
The second two pieces David has created are each singularly complex and vastly different from the first. This speaks volumes to his versatility as a creative artist. I have a mostly black ink dragon on my foot/lower leg who is sharp and intense. My last tattoo, a large floral piece on my stomach/ribs, was just done last week. It is soft and strong and the placement perfectly works with, even enhances, my torso. This is the only tattoo I've gotten at David's new joint, SenaSpace.
The studio is beautiful, spacious and inspiring. Location perfect. He and his staff have created a warm and unintimidating environment. Andrew, his manager/assistant, is a gem - responsive, cool and kind. SenaSpace is not just a tattoo studio, it is a creative destination where inspiration hangs from the walls, even in the bathroom, which covered in the coolest postcards I've ever seen. In the front space David showcases his own work, strong fire drawings and luminescent lamps. SenaSpace also hosts rotating local artist and special events that draw together music, art and that special brand of New York City energy in one spot.
Getting a tattoo at SenaSpace was a great experience and I can't recommend him and SenaSpace enough.

I had no intention of getting a tattoo, ever, but I met David Sena at an art show and we starting talking design in general (i'm an architect), and I was for the first time curious enough to schedule a session. Â He was playing Fats Domino when I walked into his really nice space in soho, and I was instantly comfortable. Â Since I had no idea what I wanted, or whether I wanted anything, he took a long time to talk me through to an idea. Â He sketched a few options, each time trying to make sense of my indecisiveness. Â I told him only: fifteen minutes, two lines, not curved, not touching, not parallel. Â He suggested three, he drew a few things, and we finally decided. Â The best thing about it was watching him work - so professionally, with so much concentration, and totally engaged in my ridiculous design challenge. Â His demeanor gave me complete confidence that he cared about what he was doing, even as it wasn't Aztec or Chinese or Japanese or Duchampsian or anything like the complex work I'd seen images of. His interests supersede style, and he's wildly adaptable and responsive. Â --The other best part was that I didn't even realize he'd started when he started; he took way more than fifteen minutes to understand me, but he was done in no time. Â And what I got was a great evening and a couple of lovely lines, very very straight, not touching and not parallel. Â And now I am thinking about a third.
Review Source:I am 40 and feeling intrepid, yet more cautious than I was at 18 and getting my first and heretofore only tattoo. On a personal recommendation I contacted David Sena for what I thought would be my second tattoo. Oops! Within a few months of number two I'm getting ready to color number three (with four and five formulating in my mind!). David is a brilliant artist. He works with the contours of the body. He interprets your tattoo ideas creatively and practically. He has a gentle and precise hand. The ink is dark and vivid. And he's a fun conversationalist--helps keep the mind off the pain! David should really cover the world in tattoos!!!
Review Source:Many years ago I got my first and very simple tattoo with the need for very fine lines. I researched tattoo artists for months and finally decided on David. From the moment I got the tattoo to today I do not regret choosing David. I have seen many friends' tattoos and have watched the ink fade, the imperfections show through and the wiggly lines exposed. My tattoo has not faded and the fine lines are still the way they were intended. I am also grateful that David was patient as I radiated more anxiety than necessary. David's experience and demeanor helped make the experience of putting something permanent on my body what it was and I would go back to him above others if I wanted another tattoo.
Review Source:I'm 32, got my first tattoo with David and I couldn't be more happy with it. I explained to David my concept, showed him images with references and he came up with a super cool design and was exactly what I had in mind if not better. I went with a Japanese style black / white tattoo, half sleeve. The actual tattoo itself didn't hurt a lot and healed very fast, it was 3 sessions to finish it up. David is very good to make you feel comfortable while he is doing the tattoo. If I ever want to get another tattoo for sure I will go back to David and his studio SenaSpace is very cool, clean and in excellent location..definitely check it out!
Review Source:Got my very first tattoo with David Sena and I absolutely love it. I was scared of the pain but he promissed me he had the magic touch... And he really did. It took him less than an hour to do my tattoo and it didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. It came out perfect and I get lots of compliments. He is not only the best tattoo artist in NYC but also a very talented artist. If you haven't yet, check out his art with fireworks. Amazing!!! And girls, he is cute too... Just a plus :)
Review Source:I got my first, and as yet only, tattoo from David in 2006. I was a little apprehensive because, as a 30-something, straight-laced woman, I wasn't sure if I'd be taken seriously or be able to get my vision across to a true artist. Â I gave David some pictures and notes (and a decorative boomerang) for guidance. Â When he came out with the drawing, he walked out with my tattoo - MY tattoo. Â I was amazed. Â First try. Â And I think he was happy with me when I said he didn't have to shrink it down at all!
As I said, this is my only tattoo so far, but I think David did a great job during the tattoo itself. Â It's on my shoulder blade, peeking out onto my shoulder/arm. Â It wasn't truly painful - for me it was like when my brother would smack my sunburn as kids. Â On the occasional long line that would approach my armpit area, I'd just start experiencing what I'd call mild pain, and the line was done at just that exact moment. Â I didn't feel beat up after, either. Â David was great about checking that I was breathing and doing OK, while not being condescending. Â I also liked that he wasn't a Chatty Cathy -- if you're marking me permanently, I appreciate your full concentration on that. Â
I love my tattoo, and will always love it (a virtue of getting it at 36). Â And I love that it's my tattoo, not some crap out of a book. Â When it made its first public appearance (a different venue than I'd planned -- my sister's wedding, instead of a scuba trip), I received a number of compliments on it, and continue to get them. Â Even those anti-tattoo people admit it is very cool art. Â
I have a semi-formed idea for one more tattoo, and when the time comes, I know David will be the only one I trust to make it reality. Â And I can't wait to see the new gallery - it'll be an awesome wrapper to an already great experience.
before getting my first piece (a half sleeve at the tender age of 35) i met with several artists in NYC who had all come highly recommended. Â some were a bit aloof during the consultations, some charged for consultations...David got excited and got me excited. Â once he got the concept i was looking for, he pulled out a sharpie and sketched it out on my arm. Â i was blown away and 100% sure he was the guy i was looking for. Â the piece is amazing. Â i've had it for 5 years now and i'm headed back to him for another next month. Â i can't even imagine going to anyone else.
seriously, i'm a big fan.
David is an incredible artist, talented tattoo artist, and a wonderful person to work with. He worked closely with me to create two unique Japanese chest pieces and half-sleeves...it was refreshing for an artist to actually listen and incorporate my ideas. I am regularly stopped on the street and asked about my tattoos as the quality is unparalleled. Tattooing can be a bit intimidating but David puts you at ease and makes the whole experience memorable (in a good way!). I even took my mom to David for a simple but all together original tattoo.
Review Source:love david! he is not only a ridiculously talented artist (both tattoo & visual) he is also an amazing, cool person. when i wanted my next piece, i hit him up and found out that he was starting his own shop & gallery space...was super excited for him on this new venture! it's been awesome watching senaspace evolve. i always liked collaborating with david b/c he can seemingly read my mind...i just give him the elements & 'because' of what i want and leave the professional to do what he does best. he had fantastic color & layout suggestions again...just as before. i'm always amazed at how fast he is and the lightness of his touch (honestly, there were times where i fell asleep on the table, no joke). i couldn't be happier with the turnout...plus he banged it out in record time...3 quick sessions for the rest of my intricate back. i adore his new space and look forward to him having tons of success here...no doubt!
Review Source:I have been getting tattooed by David for several years now. He is a great, warm, sensitive, cool, chill, really nice guy. It gets even better - he is a great fine artist - graduate of Cooper Union MFA. And - equally fantastic, he is a brilliant tattoo artist. I love this guy and I love his work. SenaSpace is a new, chic, hip, art gallery/tattoo shop with  an awsome ambiance, brilliant works of art on the walls, and brilliant art on peoples skin. I highly recommend David Sena.

Get an appointment with David SENA. You will not regret it. I trust this guy's sensibility and raw talent. I saw David's work a long time ago and was wowed. Â His art leaps out at the eye and takes it hostage. Â I was one of the first clients in the opening weeks of his new studio Senaspace. Â It's a really pleasing combination of tattoo studio and art gallery set off with tasteful wood accents. Â You can see this guy's talent in other media all over the studio. Â I asked David to help out with a shoulder piece gone awry. Â In a few glances and patient conversation with me, he took out his Sharpie, eyeballed my arm, and just freestyled the piece in one sitting. Â I was amazed. David SENA is serious about his craft, is an easy-going individual and consummate professional. Â I have sat through three sessions and have a mostly completed 3/4 sleeve. I love it. Almost everyday I get stopped on the street with compliments on my tattoo. Â With the help of his assistant Andrew, SENA makes the whole experience a fun and pleasant one.
Review Source:I was referred to D. Sena by a really close friend whose opinion I very much trust and who'd gotten a tattoo done by Dave. Â I wanted to cover up an old tattoo on my shoulder, and gave Dave some basic guidelines of motif and size, but left him a lot of room for input and creative freedom. What was meant to cover just the upper part of my shoulder, ended up covering the upper part of my arm...not out of error, but because I really loved what he came up with and I completely trusted him. Â A few years later, I have no regrets and the work is holding up super well and I get a lot of compliments. Am currently working through some ideas for my next piece, and will definitely be giving Mr. Sena a call for an appointment.
Review Source:David Sena has been my go- to tattoo artist for over 6 years (1 back piece, 2 smaller rib pieces) and there aren't enough good things to say about him. Beyond his artistic vision he's a very genuine person who always tries to make his clients feel comfortable through what is a very uncomfortable process. His tattoos are clean and bold with unexpected details, and an eye for color that makes his work stand out (and consistently award winning). As long as I have been a fan of his work on skin, his work on paper has amazed me and if you are not the type to get tattooed, his firework drawings and lamps are incredible and worth checking out. No matter what kind of art you like, David always delivers stunning pieces in all of the mediums he showcases. At Senaspace, you'll be able to acquire some incredible pieces of art from a person with a truly remarkable aesthetic.
Review Source:I actually have not been to Senaspace but I have been tattooed by David Sena and he is one of the most talented and brilliant tattoo artists on this planet. He started a ribcage piece for me in March and I look forward tohaving himfinish it sometime this year. I only wish he worked in san Francisco or I livedin NewYork.
Review Source:I've wanted a tattoo since I was a tiny little kid. When I finally decided to go for it, I did an extensive research, and found David Sena. This was nearly 5 years ago, and since then, I've gotten 2 more additional pieces by him (one is an extension to my original back piece, and another small one on the front of my shoulder blade). I've always been 100% happy with the result. The style is consistent, bold, and distinctive.
Up till now, I still get compliments on my tattoos, even from people who don't dig tats..!
I respect his talent and taste, and would recommend him to anyone who is serious about body art. Go check out his portfolio, and the work will speak for itself.
