The only reason that I am giving this place only 4 stars is because of there unprofessionalism. Don't get me wrong, Anderson Luna (one of the resident tattoo artists) gave me a sick and extremely detailed tattoo, which i was beyond happy with. But! It was like breaking into fort knox to just get a freaken appointment. I live on long island and prefer the NYC tattoo shops (because they are the best), I had to drive to this place 3 times from long island to the city, wasting gas and my time, just to schedule an appointment. I mean in the end i guess it was worth it, but Anderson never told me how to take care of the tattoo after it was complete, he never emailed me when i was attempting to make my consultation and he made me wait and hour and a half before actually receiving the tattoo. WTF? I'm the client, aren't I?
Review Source:Saved is hands down the most positive experience I've had at a tattoo shop. I've gotten six tattoos by Zac, and he does an amazing job. My first piece was based on a piece of artwork, so all he did was adapt it (wonderfully), but I fell in love with his work and immediately knew that I had to get some that were designed by him. I've actually had someone approach me and ask if one of them was done at Saved because the style is so representative of the shop.
I've only gone to really nice shops, and I'd recommend any of them, but even still I've been made to feel a little uneasy sometimes; because the artist didn't seem to think I was hip enough and decided to be off-putting, or their procedures seemed outdated to me (ie: sending me off with seran wrap on my tattoo instead of a proper bandage) - but I never experienced ANY of these things at Saved. It's just an unbelievably professional environment.
Not just Zac but the other tattoo artists made me feel very comfortable as well. As a 20-something in Brooklyn with a handful of tattoos I hardly feel like a hardcore veteran, but the people in the shop remember me/my tattoos and make a point to say hi, which is really nice. The pricing depends on the artist but with Zac it was super reasonable considering the amount of work he puts in, and how quickly he works. I wouldn't think twice about recommending getting work done here!
Remarkable experience! The shop was clean and everyone on the staff was pleasant and professional. I walked into Saved Tattoo a few weeks to inquire about getting a tat.  I was told to make an appointment directly with the artist. After coming back and consulting with Michelle on my basic idea, I told her to use her judgment and create a design. She decided that my idea would best be realized using an art nouveau motif.  Went in yesterday for the work. MIchelle was extremely conscientious. She placed the stencil on my arm several times because she was not happy with its placement. The tattoo went way beyond what I was hoping for.  Her use of color and her shading were impeccable.  I am very happy that I let Michelle create the  design.  I now will start saving for the next tat.
Review Source:This is the spot I received my 1st tat. I found it after a relentless search online for the right artist for the tat I wanted. But the guy at the front desk negotiates all prices for the work being done in the shop and I'm not even sure if he's a artists himself. Â So I ended up getting charged $70 per letter (50 minutes of work @ $180hr rate) for a 5 word name on the neck (no coloring, shading or insanely intricate design). And since I the 1st black person to drop a review on this spot it seems. Like, Yeah.... definitely one of those things that makes you go hmmm.
I like my tat tho... and the artist luna was cool.
I went there in Mid-July and got my first tatoo done by artist John Sultana. I was looking to do a Gemini tattoo on my left arm/bicep area and John being an astrologist knew exactly what to draw. The shop is very professional and there's always a line out there which is a good sign since they clearly have a good reputation throughout NYC. There was something comforting about being in the same room with other customers getting a tattoo as we are all going through the pain/process together and I never really understood the phrase "Pain is beauty" until I got my first tatoo but it was worth it and if you follow the take-home care instructions you will be very satisfy with the quality of work. I've gotten so many compliments already in my short time of having it and am planning to go back later this year for another :) They might charge a bit more than other shops but you get what you pay for and I rather pay more money for quality work since this is like investing in a nice painting so you shouldn't settle for anything less.
Review Source:Decided to go with Anderson Luna after a long search for an artist. I had my own art, polished, finished, ready to go -- I just needed someone with a very skilled hand for detail to execute it as faithfully as possible.
To make a long story very short, after a consultation and putting down an $100 deposit to secure my appointment date, this flake just dropped off the map. When you are about to pay $1000 to a stranger to do something very personal and permanent to you, this whole preparatory stage is not just kindness or the sign of a nice person, it's THEIR JOB. He gave me his email so he could send me the sketches which he promised to draw up, because he insisted he was going to have to alter my design to do it (that really shouldn't be necessary, but okay I'll see what you deliver). Nothing. Emailed him several times over a 10 day period, no responses. It was my first tattoo so I had plenty of first-timer type questions -- crickets. Called the shop to try to get a hold of him. Nothing. On the second call I said f*k it and told the woman at the desk I needed my deposit back. She agreed with no hesitation and no questions (that doesn't seem right, does it?) and told me to come in to get my *cash only* deposit back. Oh and I had to come back twice to get my money because their money box was locked in the back the first time and she didn't have a key. Ugh.
The cherry on this was definitely the following: 1) when I went back to get my deposit, Anderson was in the back, but wouldn't come out to give it to me personally. Girl in front was his little go-between. If you think that this refund would perhaps come with some sort of apology for wasting my time, think again! From the back I can hear him shout "Don't give me a bad yelp review!" Seriously, jackass? Well, you just got what you asked for. Really.
And 2) on the day of my cancelled appointment, Anderson texts me to ask if I can come in 4 hours later than I had originally arranged cuz "some stuff came up". Got some sincere joy out of texting back, "Uh, remember that I cancelled my appointment weeks ago?" and receiving in return, "Oh, yea, that was you"
Class act all around.
Go to a professional, instead. That's what I did and I couldn't be more pleased.
I got my first tattoo in January and another one in February of this year. Both times I worked with Michelle Tarantelli, and both times she was fantastic. Michelle genuinely likes her job; she is very experienced and professional, but at the same time extremely friendly and relaxed. I have been thinking for 14 years (!) about doing a tattoo in honor of my mother, and Michelle immediately understood its importance; we discussed design, color and text--I wanted a short poem written below the design. Michelle suggested a place on my body that is absolutely perfect, and every time I look at it, I love it. We discussed a bit more for the second, larger tattoo, but once again Michelle understood perfectly what I wanted, and combined harmoniously her artistry and talent with my request. Thank you Michelle!
The ambiance of the business is relaxed, very good music, nice decor and lots of space; several artists can work at the same time without bouncing in each other.
Overall, an excellent experience for a first-timer, even though a bit expensive--but each tattoo is absolutely worth every penny you pay!
Had an appointment yesterday with Anderson Luna for my first tattoo. Â Great personality and awesome work! Â I got tattooed on my inner bicep, and the process was faster and less painful than I was expecting. Â Anderson's lettering is crisp, the dude is just fantastic. Â I would definitely recommend Saved Tattoo.
Review Source:You really have to wonder about people who feel that tattooers owe them their unconditional love and devotion. Â And the people who expect everyone to know and love their favorite gay photographer?! Â
Please.
If you're looking for solid, respected tattoing, here you go. Â If you're looking for someone to tell you how hip you are, and how cool you are, hire a hooker.
Love this place. Â Been here 4 times to get work done by Cris Cleen. Â Saved has some of the best artists in the country. Â Everyone here is at the top of their game and they're very professional. Â You need to book your appointment far in advance to see anyone here, they're ALWAYS busy.
Review Source:I went back to Saved Tattoo to get some mother/daughter ink when my mom came to visit this past May (side note: my mom is awesome). No sign of the rude dude I'd dealt with last year. I'd gotten in touch with Michelle Tarentelli because my fave tattoo artist- Jess Versus at 1228- was unavailable. Michelle came through for us, and then some!! I told her what my idea was, and she came up with some beautiful artwork that barely needed any redrafting. Her hourly rate is a bit more than I'm comfortable with paying, but she makes up for it with speed; because she works fast, it ended up being more affordable than some smaller tattoos I have. No precision or attention to detail is lost on speed, either! The work is gorgeous, and Michelle's "bedside manner" was great throughout the experience.
The only possible drawback is that she doesn't have the lightest touch. It was by far the most painful tattoo I've ever gotten, and my mother agreed! While it is in a pretty sensitive area (inside of my upper arm), I kinda felt like she was pressing as hard as a little kid would with a crayola. She's not a tattoo artist for the faint of heart, but if you're an adrenaline junkie like me, go for it!
I'm in the middle of getting a half-sleeve done by Zac Scheinbaum. I've had several sessions so far. From the beginning, Zac has been great. Professional, open-minded, and creative! He's run with the ideas I've given him, and come up with some really great ones. I'm already getting tons of compliments from strangers about my sleeve and it's only half done!! Everything he's done has looked clean and sharp, and has healed perfectly. He works quickly yet is gentle and considerate!
I actually started out with a consultation with Michelle - after seeing the pictures I brought she immediately told me she didn't really do what I was looking for. At first I felt weird about that but in retrospect that was the most professional and helpful thing she could have done. Instead of taking my money, she turned me over to Zac who has done a fabulous job. So I really respect her for that.
Saved *is* pricey (I think the sign on the wall says the shop minimum is $180 per hour) but it is Williamsburg and you definitely get what you pay for. Whenever I've been in there everyone has been professional while still being friendly and fun. Even when there are a bunch of other people getting tattooed at the same time, the shop doesn't feel crowded at all.
With regards to Saved as a business and how it's run, I don't really have major comments. However, from the negative reviews I saw, I think people have the expectation that tattoo shops are supposed to bend over backwards for clients - to which my response is yes and no to some extent. Tattoos are not and will never be mainstream like Starbucks. And if you want it to be, then you're looking i the wrong place and it's the complete antithesis of what tattoos are about.
Anyway, with regards to the work, there is serious talent at the shop. High quality work and a great vibe to the space to make the experience pleasant. I've gotten tattooed by Chris and Seth and absolutely love what they did on me.
This place is one of my favorite tattoo shops. Every artist is extremely skilled and very nice. I've been getting some work done by Chris O'Donnell and can't recommend him enough. Chris is an excellent draftsman and incredibly considerate towards his clients. It's also a great open environment so you're able to see what other tattooers are working on while you're getting tattooed.
Review Source:I got my first tattoo here this past summer from Michelle Tarantelli. It's a fairly decently sized tattoo of some very detailed flowers that goes from my hip to my ribs. Michelle is super sweet and did an excellent job. I can imagine my tattoo was a pain in the ass to do, considering all the little details in the petals, but she was very sweet the whole time and it came out looking amazing.
The shop itself is huge, and the other people who work there seem nice.
Also, my tattoo ended up being really fairly priced. Wahooo!
Two words:
Michelle.
Tarantelli.
I was ridiculously nervous about my first tattoo. Â Michelle is an absolute sweetheart. Â She took the time to work with me on my ideas, was patient with me when I was unsure about the placement, and reassured me that she wouldn't do the tattoo if she really thought I'd regret it. Â It turned out even better than I could have ever imagined and I love it to death. Â I can't wait for my next one.
The shop itself is spotlessly clean and everyone is really friendly. Â I'd suggest going in to the shop to make an appointment. Â I put down a $100 deposit and set up a consult about two weeks before my appointment. Â The artists have their portfolios on the front coffee table as well.
I think I'm ready for my next one. Â See you soon, Saved!
I just received a tattoo from Seth Wood at Saved Tattoo and wanted to share what a positive experience I had. Â The professionalism, cleanliness, charm and workmanship are incomparable.
First, and perhaps most important, the quality of the tattoo is amazing. Â I knew what I wanted in general, but Seth Wood was able to provide knowledge and guidance to help nail just what I wanted. Â The final product is amazing, and is a tattoo I am really proud of.
Second, everybody at the shop is amazingly professional and just a pleasure to deal with. Â Scheduling was easy and responses to questions came quickly. Â The space is cool, clean and sleek, and the level of attention to detail, cleanliness and hygiene is impeccable. Â Seth Wood's advice on aftercare was clear and thorough, and is making recovery easier.
Finally, charm. Â Seth Wood is just a charming guy, with a great sense of humor, who has a lot of patience for questions and great anecdotes, explaining a lot about tattooing, the craft, the experience and the philosophy, all making the session something really meaningful. Â
I look forward to returning, and highly recommend Seth Wood and Saved Tattoo.

Michelle Tarantelli was awesome! I just had my first tattoo from her today and it was an awesome comfortable experience. the tattoo is FUCKING PERFECT. it looks exactly like the picture i provided. she's a nice person too, which makes the experience that much better. the tattoo took a little over an hour, tons of color, cost $180, well worth the price for the wonderful work.
the shop is great, clean. all the people there are nice. i think i've definitely sparked an addiction. can't wait to go back.
btw i personally checked out a bunch of other shops/artists in nyc and none compared to the group here at saved. don't go anywhere else.
be saved.
Steph Tamez is a superstar. Â I just had her tattoo me for the third time-- she continues to be a consummate professional. Â Her line work is impeccable: it is absolutely stunning. Â She has also been great at placing my tattoos so that they really complement the natural curves of my body-- she really thinks about the entire effect of the piece on one's body. Â I love the two previous pieces she's done on me; they have healed beautifully and I can't wait for this one to heal up. Â She is really easy to work with and I love seeing her-- she is such a positive, easygoing, warm person. Â Â
This was the first time I've had her tattoo me at Saved. Â At her last location, she had a more private, screened-off area that gave a little more privacy for the client, if necessary, but I think it really limited the interaction between the artists. Â Saved has an open setup, so I could see what many of the other artists were working on, and when other artists weren't busy with a client, they would come around and check out what their colleagues were tattooing. Â This really made for a really communal, supportive atmosphere. Â
The other artists are superb, and the place is spotlessly clean. Â All in all, a great experience.
I am truly shocked by the reviews below complaining of bad customer service, the people here could not have been nicer. I called this morning not knowing anything about the shop, asked if they had any openings and they squeezed me in this afternoon. The guy at the front desk was super sweet while I looked through the books (all of which were amazing, by the way) Anderson tattooed me and did a 3 letter initial piece on my back. It was quick and painless, and came out beautifully. I left the shop with a tattoo that was even better than I had anticipated. Haters gonna hate but I can't possibly understand the bad reviews below.
Review Source:Stephanie Tamez is a genius. I had been eyeing her work for a while, and finally made the decision to have her do a piece.
We e-mailed for a bit about my design, and then had a very productive meeting in person a few weeks before my scheduled appointment. She was really thorough and had useful suggestions for my tattoo.
Her prices are not cheap by any means, but they are fair. I have learned that you really need to invest well in a great tattoo. These talented folks are real artists so I'm always willing to support their craft.
This was my 6th ink so I knew what to expect--all of my previous tattoo experiences have been very positive. The 2 hour session went by quickly, and I was amazed by her artistry and attention to detail. We had a good conversation during the session, too.
I am so happy and proud to have a Stephanie Tamez tattoo.
I'm totally going back to Brooklyn just to have her do my next one.
Thomas Hooper. This should explain it all. He is an amazing artist and super nice guy. I love my back piece, Thomas!!!!!
The staff is very nice and the artists are all kickass. The space is clean. I don't like shops that are totally wide-open like this, though...no privacy at all.
But, oh well. If I want to be a total whiner...I wouldn't get tattooed in the first place.
I've been coming here with my boyfriend while he gets work done by Seth here. He was recommended by a friend of ours and I think his talents far exceeded his expectations. Seth is incredibly professional and accommodating. Making appts with him is easy, he tries to be as open as possible but he is quite busy so don't expect him to squeeze you in, in any tight time frames. I watch him work and he changes his gloves numerous times, often cleans up his area and really stays focused. We have good conversation with him too while we're there. He's really knowledgeable and has lots of ideas. The shop itself is also very clean with trash cans and floors, always maintained and table tops cleaned immediately. The space is cool, with exposed brick and original art work by the shop owner.
My boyfriend's on his way to having 2 full sleeves and I know he doesn't plan on going to anyone other than Seth, he's just really incredible and fast. Not because he's rushing, he just knows what he's doing and has lots of experience. Should I ever decide to get a tattoo, I'd highly consider Seth before anyone else. ALSO, 3 other artists were working on clients while we were there and all their tattoos looked amazing. Everyone here is talented, you just have to decide what artist suits the style you're looking for.
Bonus: This place is only a block from the Lorimer stop, so easy to get to.
I had been considering getting a tattoo for a long time before deciding that I would finally get one for my 27th birthday. I started researching artists in Brooklyn, and before too long my search led me to Michelle Tarantelli at Saved. I sent an email to the address on their website and heard back pretty promptly. Within a day of sending the email, I had an appointment scheduled.
Everything about my first tattoo experience at Saved was fantastic! Jocelyn, who works the front desk, was very nice. The space itself feels nice and open and the decor is great! I was able to sit quite comfortably and browse the artists' books while I waited for the equipment to be sterilized.
Then I met Michelle. I was extremely nervous, but she was so sweet that she put me immediately at ease. I had emailed the shop with what I was looking for prior to my appointment, and when I got there Michelle already had a gorgeous sketch ready for me! After adjusting the size a bit to make it perfect, Michelle got to work. She started with a small line first, so I could get used to what the machine felt like. After that she worked very quickly - not because she was rushing or being careless, but because she's a freaking PRO. After an hour and a half I had a perfectly completed tattoo and I was delighted!
I really cannot recommend Ms. Tarantelli enough. She's a real artist. If I ever decide to get another tattoo, I know where I'm going.
PS. The tattoo healed like A DREAM!
When contemplating a new tattoo a while back, I asked a friend (who is covered, by the way) if he knew of a cheap tattoo artist. His reply was, "Is a tattoo REALLY Â something you want to bargain shop for?" He makes an excellent point. He then continued, "I don't know if she's cheap or not, but Michelle Tarantelli is fantastic." Sold.
I just received my second tattoo from Michelle, and it's nothing short of mind-blowing. She's amazing. The detail, the attention, the intricacy- I can't stop staring at it! I went in both times with an idea of what I wanted, and walked out BOTH TIMES with something seriously, insanely cooler than what I had in my head- because of Michelle! She definitely nails the perfect blend of badass and beautiful. My arm is seriously inked- but it still looks feminine. Â And the healing process? Â A total non-issue. And I've received tattoos from other artists and did not heal well at all. Not with Michelle. Â I swear she's magic!
The shop is a super cool space! The artwork is mesmerizing. And Jocelyn at the desk is very sweet and incredibly helpful. She patiently worked with me digging for a book that I was "pretty sure" I had seen 2 years ago, and searching images online until we found exactly what I was looking for.
I am seriously over the moon with the whole experience, and my new tattoo. Â
Thanks guys!!!
Overall I am happy with my tattoo and tattoo artist but the experience was only so-so. The location itself is spacious, clean, and convenient. I went to another tattoo parlor recently and felt much more welcomed and comfortable with my artist's knowledge and ability.
If you are new to tattooing, and you are not a hipster, I would not recommend going to this shop. But maybe it's just because I didn't vibe with the people very well.
Very unprofessional.
Scott, supposed to be hot shit doing great tattoo and all but if you can't track your own appointment and can't even call the client to at least apologize for the mistake you made, it shows what kind of business you are running over there.
Bullshit joint!
Only went there thinking Paul was still there but he moved to Three Kings and I will probably go there instead.
THANK YOU DIEGO! Â When I found Diego at Saved I already had 2 small tattoos done at 2 different shops (1 in Annapolis, MD and another in Tallahassee, FL) and I was ready to take a big boy step and start the sleeve on my right arm. Â It took me a long time to decide on a place and an artist with sleeves being a pretty big deal since they are big an detailed , not to mention crazy expensive. Â When I first heard the price per hour I was a little nervous, silly me. Â Diego hooked my sh!t up!!! Â So far he's done the Koi/Cherry Blossoms/ Background for my forearm and we are going to be working our way up to the shoulder in the coming months. Â I could not be any happier with the work I've gotten done, and I'm really excited to build on what we've started. Â My colors really pop, the line work stands out, it is taking no time to heal up and the design runs so perfectly up my arm I couldn't imagine it any better. Â I have gotten a bunch of compliments already and it's not even done yet lol. Â Thanks Diego...see you in a few weeks for that Geisha head. Â I really liked Saved, the shop is cool, the people are friendly and talented...go check em out.
Review Source:A note to Diego at Saved Tattoo:
Diego, I not sure how, but you made my girlfriend hotter. Â On a whim we walked in and told you a half thought out idea for a tattoo and you made it into art. Â The piece you put on her side could go on a canvas or a hip and be equally stunning. Â You and by affiliation your shop are fantastic. Â Professional, artistic, helpful, and clean. Â I'll be back in a few weeks for my back piece.
You all should follow suit.
My girlfriend and I decided over brunch to get tattoos but didn't want to sacrifice quality for same-day service. As this was only my second tattoo and my girlfriends first, neither of us were too familiar with the parlors in the area but after a quick search on yelp and a call to a friend well versed in the tattoo world, we went to saved. Even though our tattoos were fairly simple, I still didn't expect to get the work done the same day, but they fit us in around 9pm, (they usually close at 8) and the artists, (Beau did mine and Diego did Genna's) were super friendly and not stand-offish or pretentious in the least.
Both of our tattoos turned out great. The place is clean as a whistle and they have a lot of old scissors and a painting of a bearded man with a dead mermaid to look at while you wait. All in all, I'm very pleased with the work and will be back in the future.
Great place my husband has had two done. The young lady that is the shop girl.(Her name is Jocelyn). is great so nice and patient not to say very pretty. Â She is very clean and makes sure everything around the machines are clean.Don't forget to tip her too.Michele and Paul make great art.
Review Source:I'd like to make a shout out to my boy PAULLLY......Thanks for tatting me & my girl vee-dawg and entertaining us with your beaming weird, witty ass! Twas a fun couple hours hang bangin'! Â Send Bailey our love, hope baby mama's not stretching anymore clothes out!
When we were looking for a place to get a last minute tattoo in NY, we finally decided to go with Saved with the hopes of being tattooed by Michelle. But when she wasn't able to make it...Paullly Bear came to our rescue and was able to work with us and our constrained time since we were going home  to the CA that day.  And he didn't disappoint us...
Where is the compass pointing to? West.....Come visit us Pauly, we have relocated ourselves to Silverlake in LA! Ride or die bizzzzzzz!
Please. Â If you are gonna put something on your body forever, get it put on you by one of the fine artists at this establishment. Â
Oh, and the decor is awesome. Â Kinda turn of the century awesome. Â Old rusty scissors awesome. Â awesome-awesome.
(I get my inks done by Bailey----for color I think he is tops...plus he wears this cool apron, and these cute little old-timey undershirt things)
Saved is one of the larger tattoo shops I have been to, which is great because you don't feel like the other artists and customers are piled on top of you--not a great feeling. Â
I got tattooed by john reardon here back in may and it was a great experience. Everyone I spoke with was super nice, and there was a nice vibe, with all the customers and artists hanging out and chit-chatting to some degree. Â John is an awesome artist, and did an amazing job on my custom piece. I was a bit worried because I hadn't seen his artwork before my appointment that some things might need to be tweaked, but he drew exactly what I had envisioned. Perfect. Â
Something else to note. As I was getting my work done, another guy came in for what was his first tattoo. His artist was really good with him, she made sure he was comfortable and calmed his nerves, and she did this without talking down to him at all. (When John started working on the area by the elbow and I was grimacing like a maniac, she said to her client, "You're doing great, just don't look at that guy." ha!).
Overall, it was a great experience. The shop is clean and, of course, they use fresh needles with every piece and all that good stuff. Â There is some sweet artwork displayed on the walls, too, which you can purchase should you prefer your art in your house and not your skin.
A serious tattoo shop for people who are serious about their tattoos.
yes. myles is the best.
he's super easy to talk to, friendly, and laid back.
not to mention that his work melts face.
he has some of the most recognizable style going on right now.
color is amazing, hand isn't too heavy and is VERY steady, and his attention to detail is impeccable.
i've run into other people with myles' work and it becomes an immediate bond.
i'll never get tattooed by anyone else again.
godblesshim.
Following Myles from the now closed Bowery Tattoo to Saved, I couldn't be happier. Myles is one of the most exciting artists working in the city today and does incredible colors, nature and surreal work. He is an amazing guy to talk to and always puts me at ease and has great ideas. Also, he has a very steady hand and keeps the needle in the right spot all the time so that colors don't fall out or fade much. I probably spend about an hour a week thinking about what I could throw at Myles so that I can get another tattoo. He's definitely my Tattoo guy 4 life. Check out his work on his website:
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmyleskarr.com%2F&s=f13d854de1a3ad795447b31281fd46075b2ef2102c43acc242ad0098343b79ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://myleskarr.com/</a>
Also, although he works in a tattoo parlor with one of the most expensive artists in the city (Scott Campbell), his prices are extremely reasonable. So much so that I've taken to tipping him arond 60% just to thank him for being so trustworthy and artistic.
