I will preface this by saying that I did not get a tattoo here. This review is based solely off the customer service.
I made an appointment to see one of their artists, Minka, who I had done extensive research on (they do have talented artists here). Went in for a consultation, left a cash deposit, badda boom, my appointment was scheduled for a month later. Didn't feel particularly warm vibes, but I wasn't judging.
The NIGHT BEFORE my appointment I get two voice mails from the front desk girl saying that my original 12:00 pm appointment would no longer work, and asked if I could come in at 2:00 pm instead.
I call them back, and my call goes to their voice mail box--and so I explain in a message that I only received their messages after I had gotten off work, and that as I had other engagements that day, I would need to reschedule my tattoo appointment to another day that month. Left my number, felt reasonably fine about the whole thing.
I get a call the day of my appointment at 3:00 p.m., saying that they never got a call back from me, and that the artist had been waiting for me for three hours. Oh, and that I had lost my deposit.
Never mind the fact that if they had rescheduled my appointment as they said, the artist would have only been waiting for one hour. Never mind the fact, also, that if they were indeed KEEPING my original appointment time, they NEVER LET ME KNOW.
I'm really disappointed about the treatment I was given here, and the fact that I lost my deposit because they couldn't get their scheduling straight.
Just got home from my tattoo at east side ink with Juan. The whole experience was great, Juan was really comforting (this was only my 2nd tattoo) and made the experience great. The tat came out how I wanted it and he even suggested some changes to it that made it even better. Definitely recommend east side ink and juan for script.
Review Source:My first tattoo, and I had a great experience here. Granted, I came in knowing exactly what I wanted, since I'd been sporting the temporary tattoo version of what I wanted for a few weeks to see if I liked it. I made an appointment, came in and everyone was very easygoing and friendly.
Gerald did my tattoo, and he was incredibly professional and explained everything along the way. He did the overlay, placed it on and asked me to take a look at it to see if the placement and design met my satisfaction. Before he started doing the actual tattoo, he read it back to me again just to confirm everything. I got the tattoo, it was quick and way less painful than I thought it would be.
Overall very satisfied with my experience there, and if I get more I'll likely go back there.
I got a tattoo here back in August of 2011, before my Yelping days. Â I had the best experience ever but didn't write about it. Â I always regretted not writing about it. Â WELL, my friend Chelsea just got a tattoo here this past week, and I accompanied her for moral support. Â The experience was, again, amazing.
When I had come here, I had Alex Sherker, who is now somewhere in BK. I loved him. Â He was a total extrovert and talked to me the entire time. Â Chelsea's guy, Cheo Park, was really fantastic though. Â He was very quiet, and that's exactly what Chelsea needed. Â (I talk when I'm nervous, she shuts down. Â It was fate!) Â Cheo was extremely serious about his work and did a fabulous job. Â Chelsea showed up at first with just an idea, and he emerged a half hour later with a sketch of one of the most beautiful tattoos imaginable. Â
He had a steady hand and a fantastic work ethic. Â If I got too loud and boisterous (it happens), he quietly shushed me and continued, not missing a beat.
The place is clean, professional, and relaxing. Â There are tons of art history books adorning the walls, which makes me feel as if it has an even extra legitimate quality. Â
Don't go anywhere else. Â This is truly the best you can get.
Place sucks, bad costumer service, but more importantly terrible tattoo work, in my experience!
I had a really simple, geometrical tattoo.
The design didn't end up being what I wanted, and horribly made, crocked overall, crocked lines, some lines not connected. Overall very bad! Wouldn't recommend at all. Don't remember the name of the "artist", but she was a woman.
Jessica, you are amazing. The coloring and details on my piece are just wonderful. You took my idea and turned it into a permanent work of art. I have gotten so many compliments. I can't wait to have my 4th session with you.
Shop is neat, clean, organized and sterile. Tattoo artists take their jobs seriously when it comes to cleanliness and professionalism. I love the location and the music they play.
I was being a big chicken about getting my first tattoo for years and finally worked up the nerve to just go for it. Royal, who is new on the East Side Ink team, was really patient and informative. He was very considerate in frequently asking how I was holding up -- the whole process was so easy and relatively painless that I felt like an idiot for being so afraid in the first place. I would definitely come back here for more work, and would recommend Royal for anyone who wants their tattoo done by a perfectionist who makes sure you're comfortable every step of the way.
Very clean studio, you can send them a vector of your design in advance, and they'll take the time to work with you on the size and placement that will look best.
I recently got my first tattoo here by Patrick Conlon and had the best experience.
First I'll say that this studio is absolutely, impeccably clean and everyone here is super friendly and professional. They even offered me a free macaroon while Patrick sketched my tattoo up.
He was really patient and listened to what I wanted but still gave great, honest advice on what he thought would look best.
The actual tattooing process was awesome. Patrick has a light touch and really nice technique. He has a great sense of how you're feeling and will adjust pressure or give you breaks if you seem overwhelmed. His lines are super clean and now that my tattoo is healed nicely, it looks nice and crisp.
My tattoo was a simple, medium sized script tattoo on my hip. Not very complicated, but for my first tattoo, I'm glad I got to have the best experience. I definitely would come back here for my next piece in a heartbeat.
After a consult where the artist Jonah Ellis (who also works with East side ink in the city) reassures me that he can pull off the tattoo I want, I leave a deposit and set-up an appointment for two weeks later. The day of, shortly before the tat appt he sends me an email that he's been up till 8am unable to be inspired enough to draw and casually suggests a different tattoo artist. I Get to the shop ask him why he said he could do it if he couldn't and he tells me he thought he could but realized he couldn't. I calmly get my deposit back and leave. Later in the evening I realize he sent me a follow-up email trying to justify him being "the bad guy". So, besides the fact that what he did was unprofessional but to write me about it after the fact? I will never get another tat from East side ink (he also works out of this shop) nor think twice about using Graceland. If you are interested in this artist make sure he gives you a sketch a few days in advance to avoid having the same experience I have. #gracelandtattoo #eastsideink #tattoos
Review Source:I have this thing about collecting tattoos in the different cities that I live in and hold dear to my heart. When I was back in NYC for a temporary relocation, I stumbled upon Jonah Ellis' work after perusing the portfolios of dozens of artists in and around the city. I had a pretty simple idea -- two birds on my ribs. My reference sketches were whimsical and illustrative. I wanted Jonah to look at the work and customize more to his style which is far more realist and detailed. I swung by one evening to make an appointment and Jonah wasn't there that night, but I was told the tattoo would likely take an hour or so. I explained that I would need the appointment soon as I was moving away.
I came in for my appointment a couple weeks later and finally got to meet Jonah. Unfortunately, upon reviewing the reference sketches, he felt like he wanted to spend some more time drawing up something custom for me. So I had to reschedule a week later. What he presented me with was so beautiful. I knew it was way more elaborate and detailed (read: expensive) than what I had originally concepted, but if he could pull it off, it would be worth it.
I came in 1/2 hour early, waited 45 min to get started, and sat 4 hours. First three hours were fine, but I had to tap out after the fourth even though I had about 45 min of work left. Jonah knew I was flying back to the west coast later that week, so he rearranged his schedule a couple nights later to bring me into the Graceland shop in Brooklyn. I got there on time, waited 30 minutes, and sat for another hour.
The end result: I am so in love with my tattoo. It goes down the entire length of my rib/side, and is my largest and absolute favorite tattoo. Jonah is incredibly talented, and also a really easy going guy who is very passionate and meticulous about his work. Worth the money, worth the waits, worth the pain.
My sister Maha came here for her first tattoo. Â Being seasoned in the art, Nelly and I found her adorable as she shook with anticipation. Â They took the time to help her choose a pattern, the artist drew it out patiently and put his touch on it, and he was very supportive of her in her anxiety. Â The tattoo is perfect, they are clean, professional, and friendly. Â And they gave us cookies. Â And the cookies were delicious. Â Makes me want to get another tattoo. And maybe I will.
Review Source:Jon Clue = AMAZING!
Husband went in to get his tattoo covered before the wedding. Â He called Jon, then they exchanged emails for about a week or so before he made an appointment and went in. Â
First, Jon is VERY talented. Â He is so very artistic.
Second, he is very open minded and willing to share his experience/knowledge with you. Â After all, you may want something on your body but a professional can really help to guide you and Jon is excellent at that.
Lastly, he is not afraid to try something...go outside of the box, allow you to have input and really help cater to you!
He did an amazing cover up; it was a large Buddha silhouette with an Indian flare to it. Â It was amazing. Â Truly. Â
My husband was in his chair for about 4 hours, Jon took one break (they both needed it, haha) and he went back to work. Â
The shop is clean, personable and rather swanky for a tattoo shop. Â We would go back any day!
Kelly did my work and I am more than satisfied. They are CLEAN, Friendly and professional. He took time to do the work, very meticulous and clean. The entire time, we were chatting about life and philosophy and history etc, I was engrossed in the conversation din't even feel the pain. It is CASH only which I have no complaints  about and when you call to make an appointment they mention it is cash only.
Review Source:After reading up on several highly rated tattoo parlors on Yelp as well as some testimonials from a friend, I decided on East Side Ink.
My best friend came to town, and we had been wanting to get our second tattoos done. We walked in on a Saturday night, without a reservation, worried that we wouldn't be able to get them done that day.
However, to our delight, the front desk lady figured something out and moved things around, and we were able to get consultation and inks that night. We did have to wait around for half an hour, but that was understandable since they were pretty busy.
We had our consultation with Lara, who was very sweet and helpful, and put up with my very specific requests on a pretty small and relatively simple tattoo. She finished my tattoo quickly and surpassed my expectations. I was very worried about the outcome, but needless to say, she did a wonderful job.
My friend was tattooed by Kristi, since Lara had another appointment. From what I saw, she also did a clean, solid job on my friend (her tat was a lot simpler, but her location was a lot harder).
We were charged a very very reasonable rate for a great experience, and also received after-care info packets prior to leaving.
Great place. Very unpretentious, which is always a turnoff. Highly recommended for anyone thinking about where to get their tattoo.
I went in with a simple idea, and was able to get an appointment the next day with Kristi Walls. She was super sweet, and not awkward at all about where I wanted my new ink done. I left the customary deposit of $100 and prepared to drop a few more bucks the day of my appointment, I didn't have to which was nice. Her portfolio is rad, love color work in general, and her color work is very good. I love letting girls draw on me. And I'm super happy with my healed work.
Review Source:Went in last night to get tattooed by Jon Clue; as I told him later, it was the best tattoo experience I've had thus far! First off, he did an awesome job on my tattoo, which took about 3.5 hours. It's my favorite piece on my body and it just looks incredible. The details in it are amazing and it's also a very accurate representation of what I wanted. Jon was professional but very nice, and chatting with him made the time fly by.
The pricing is steep, but I'm happy so I don't care. Also, the customer service while I was there by the front desk folks were very good, I thought -- as I was waiting there, I saw a lot of people walk in and get consulted and they seemed to be pretty attentive.
Let me preface this by saying I didn't GET a tattoo here, I'm just writing about the experience.
This is obviously a legit tattoo shop. Their artists have some pretty respectable work in their portfolios. I walked in with an idea for a tattoo that is on the simpler side (two state outlines) needing help with placement ideas and hopefully stencils so that I could decide once and for all where to get it and then move forward with it. The girl behind the counter who "consulted me" didn't even sit with me, she told me over the counter the obvious "well, forearms are more visible. ribs would be less so." and said that the tattoo was "easy". I went into a shop like this because I want to make sure that I get GREAT line work done since state outlines are pretty fine lines. She proceeded to tell me to draw my ideas onto myself to try them out (which I guess was a response to them requiring me to leave a $100 deposit in cash even just to come in and see a stencil).
Overall I was left feeling like because I didn't want a "harder" tattoo, this wasn't the place for me.
Very professional, very clean, very cool tattoo shop. My artist, Kristi, was able to take some basic ideas and turn them into a couple of fantastic tattoos.
There is a stated minimum of $100 for any tattoo, and most artists charge about $100 - $150 per hour. The shop is cash only, which is a bit of a hindrance when you're getting a big piece of art put on.
It's best to stop in or call for an appointment or to set up an artist consultation. They generally prefer that you put in a deposit for any artwork to be done.
on a lazy thursday morning, sitting on the bus from Boston to NYC, i had yelped many tattoo shops around the city stumbling upon ESI. little did i know that i would be getting my first piece that very same day.
There are many reasons why i love this place.
- They are very professional when it comes to how they conduct business
- Very friendly and helpful
- No wall art... equals less intimidating atmosphere
- Great pricing
- Actual art books on the wall. Da Vinci, Leonardo (other ninja turtles)
*personals: i came in as a walk in, no art work in hand for reference. i just googled the image and they worked with it. they even gave me a little tube of ointment for after.
i would love to come here again. so sad that they were so far away form Boston.
* cash only =)
First, possibly last? (haven't decided), tattoo but extremely happy with my experience and the beautiful work done by Kristie Walls! ESI is completely professional but chill and not pretentious. Service is friendly and prompt. The facility itself is very clean and, as a physician myself, I felt completely safe. Kristie was amazing, I went in as a walk in and got an appointment for consultation the same day. Met her later on after emailing her photos of what I wanted done and she drew up a sketch right there and then. We went over the detailing, line thickness, color options vs. shading then had the tat done the same night! They charge per hr with a minimum of $100 but compared to most places, extremely reasonable! Needless to say I'm in love with the piece of art Kristie graced on my hip and if I ever dare to get more done, I will only be going to Kristie @ East Side Ink
Review Source:I have had two previous tattoos done at ESI with Sweety, and he was amazing. Talented, no fuss, and fast. I recently went to get more work done, but unfortunately, Sweety is no longer there. I heard great reviews about the other artists, so I figured I was in good hands. I walked into the shop and found that it was a whole new crew. My appointment with Kristi was scheduled at 4 and was not seated until 5:45. She is definitely a capable artist but works slow. What I thought should have taken no more than 40 min, took 1hr 15min. I was charged $300 for this session, which I thought was absolutely absurd!
I was once a big fan of ESI, but something has changed and I don't like it!
Went here for my very first tattoo with several images and a basic general idea of what i wanted. Â Lara, my tattoo artist spoke to me for a few minutes and drew up an original design. Â All i can say is....WOW! Â She made my first experience less scary and took my idea and turned it into a work of art. Â The place itself is clean and professional looking and even though it is one open floor space (no privacy here), never once did i feel as if i was being gawked at. Â I definitely recommend bringing a friend, especially if it is your first time ( i came this close to getting a misspelled tattoo because i wrote a word incorrectly - but my friend picked up on the error). Â Also, bring cash as they don't accept credit cards and they are pricey ($100 per hour - but hey, you're paying for the quality, professionalism and comfort).
My one complaint is that they often time get backed up with customers (you can't rush art) so be prepared to wait - bring a book, ipod, kindle, etc to keep you company.
Other than that, i highly recommend this place.
10 years later, I decided to get my second tattoo and chose to get it done at East Side Ink. Sweety was my artist and although my design is relatively simple, he was really helpful throughout the whole process. I wanted it on my inner left heel and he told me where the best placement would be. I was a little nervous, but Sweety's demeanor was just so calm and comforting that I knew I was in good hands. It turned out great and looks better than I imagined. Would definitely recommend this place!
Review Source:I read reviews for EAST SIDE INK, here on yelp. I had made my first appointment about 2 years ago to be exact. I called  in and the receptionist gave me a appointment for the next day. When i arrived there the next day, I was about 15 mins late because of the NYC mta. I sat on the couch for about 2 mins and then I was greeted by a artist named MARK HARADA. I went in for some a additional add-ons for a tattoo that I got when I was 18.. He asked me what i wanted so that he could have a idea what he had to draw up. Since i had the little fish for some years now, I just kept up with the sea theme. He drew a mermaid and some coral leafs, water waves, jellyfish, kelp and a seahorse. The tattoo takes up the whole front part of my left shin.. I have already made 3 trips to get it colored, and I only have a little bit to finish.
Mark and all the tattoo artist here are all down to earth. The parlor itself is pretty clean and has a family feeling to it . Mark makes you feel as comfortable as possible and he moves pretty quickly. I plan on getting a partial sleeve started within the next week or so.. The minimum charge is $100 and from there its $200 a hr. It may sound expensive but its worth every single penny in my book..Since going here, four of my friends has gotten work done here and they love it, and also plan on returning.
This place rocks!!!!
Very nice place...very easy to make an appointment. Very clean place. I had my tattoo done by Alex. He has amazing talent. It was my first tattoo and he kept making sure I was ok through the process. I would definitely recommend this shop to everyone. Ill be going back again in the future.
Review Source:Heard this place from a patient at where i use to work and he had this really awesome, very detailed tattoo.Told my husband about the place since he wanted to get a cover-up/ sleeve on his left arm and i wanted to get a portrait done on my shoulder blade area. We both decided to have Needles to do ours. We called to make a consultation appt  *bring cash for deposit.
I was expecting a grudgy looking tatt place with flash catalogues in the front . We walked in and place looked like from a West Elm catalogue with awesome rock n roll music blasting. Place has an open concept that you can see the artists at their stations working on their clients as you sit at their waiting area. Or you can browse at their portfolios as you wait. No flashes here, theyre not that type of place.
We told Needles what we wanted and he will come up with the drawing on our next appt. Both my husband and I have been getting a lot of compliments with our tatts. Mine looks exactly like the picture and his looks like a painting! He got a leopard with a foliage background. You cant even tell there was an old tatt under it.
I recently went back to get another tatt done and got my brother to get his first tatt done here. I called first and asked who is good with tribal tatts and she has suggested Needles, Mark and Sweety. We consulted with Mark and told him we both want a tribal scorpion with our Dad's dates. Mine on the neck and his on his shoulder. We both looved what he sketched and now my bro couldnt wait for summer to show it off!
I expected ink ending up all over my shirt because with my first tribal tatt with another artist he had paper towel all over me as he worked. Mark was very clean and quick n there were no missed spots.
We have been referring everyone here and we'll definitely come back for additional tatts. The price you pay is worth it!
I got my tattoo done by Alex who is a true talent. He was very patient in explaining his concerns with my original design (a treble clef in pastel colors). He re-worked the design with vivid red, orange, and purple. It's been almost a week now and the tattoo is healing beautifully.
This is a serious tattoo parlor that specializes in tattoos only--no piercings. Prices start at $100. They accept cash only.
Just had my tattoo done tonight with Sweety. He's a great guy, very nice (lives up to his name!) and very easy to work with. Â We talked about what I wanted, I showed him my very pixellated printouts, and he came up with an amazing design. The shop could not have been cleaner - I commented that I was impressed they even put that blue hygienic plastic over the lamp like a dentist's office! The tattoo took about an hour, and came out great! It was a great experience, and I'm sure to go back if/when I decide to get another tattoo!
Review Source:This review is not indicative of the artistic or technical ability of the artists of which I am sure is impeccable. Â I have just one complaint that will keep me from ever going here again.
I went into the shop one evening for a walk in consultation. Â Although it took about 45 minutes when the receptionist told me it would only be about 10 minutes I was still okay. Â I met with one of the artists and subsequently put a $100 cash deposit down. Â
On the night before my appointment the shop called to remind me of the appointment and I thought that was nice. Â During the night I developed a severe case of the flu. Â I called the shop the next morning/afternoon as soon as they opened. Â The bottom line is they said I would lose my deposit if I didn't show up. Â There was no flexibility at all. Â I pleaded with them that I was extremely ill and there was no leniency at all. Â
So I lost a hundred bucks and they kept it. Â They could have made 300-600 dollars on me because of the extent of work I was planning on both arms. Â
To me this is an indication of poor service and a "cheap" mindset and philosophy. Â Another shop in town will now get this business. Â I totally understand the need to have deposits and so forth but I as a business owner I also understand the need to know when you have to be flexible. Â
Knowing this in hindsite I'm actually pleased I gave my business to another shop.
This is a top notch, clean, friendly custom shop with a versatile cast of quality artists. I got sleeved by Andrea (who has since moved on) and during that time came to be impressed with all of the other artist's work as well. Whatever your project, the receptionist will steer you to the right artist, all of whom have extensive portfolios on display.
Review Source:I got my 1st tattoo yesterday and I'm so glad I chose ESI. As per all the Yelpers here, making an appt was seamless and the service here is great. The receptionist was so sweet and helpful.
My appt was with Alex @ 1pm and I had to wait a little but I was so impressed with the shop. It was chic, clean and very professional. I did feel a little out of place, having zero tattoos but the environment was classy and comfortable.
When Alex arrived he introduced himself, I showed him what I wanted done. We talked about size, placement, thickness of lines etc. He was very helpful. When it got time to prep, I was so impressed with how clean and professional everything was.
I realise I'm a newb but I felt really comfortable in Alex's hands and he talked me through the pain and made me feel relaxed. He was also nice enough to let me friends hang around him to watch and take photos. My tattoo turned out perfect, exactly how i had envisioned it!
End result: it costs the minimum of $100 which is expensive for something small but worth it in terms of the work they do. Alex and ESI made my 1st tattoo experience enjoyable and if what they say is true about tattoos, I will be back there for more? We'll see... :)
I got my first tattoo here and could not have had a better experience. Â Mark redesigned some script I brought in, and it looks incredible. Â He was efficient, creative, and kept me at ease throughout the entire process. Â
The atmosphere is really welcoming and all the staff were friendly. Â The prices were reasonable, and the work is great. Â
Definitely going back.
Well I went here to get my first tattoo. It's a fairly small lock on my ankle. I wanted a lot of detail, and was extremely nervous. I believe the artist's name was Matt, he was very nice and made me feel very comfortable. It came out very well and I'll most likely come back to add some more to it soon. They are pretty fairly priced and have a nice cleen feel to the salon.
Review Source:Holy crap... amazing. I got my first tattoo here. It was exactly what I wanted. I was incredibly unhelpful when I went in and said, "I want a tiger lily," with basically no other direction. My artist (C-Jay) pulled up pictures, went to books, and spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what I wanted. He spent almost an hour just on that and sketching the outline.
He originally said the inking was going to take about 2 hours. It ended up taking 2 appointments and about 4 hours because he just went into so much detail and did such a beautiful job, and still just charged me for the 2 hours.
I love my tattoo, get compliments on it all the time, and am already planning on my next tattoo from them.
They make you wait FOREVER to start, but they get the job done. Alex did my 4th tattoo, a relatively simple one of a lotus and a quote, in 45minutes and it's lovely (if I do say so myself). After a quick consult, I came back in a few weeks and got the actual tattoo. I made him go through a few different sketches before we settled on a stencil, and he blew through the actual tattooing process in half the time he had originally allotted. Seeing they charge by the hour, this was good news for my wallet. My tat is right on my spine, so he did a great job as the pain wasn't all that bad. It's healing nicely and the design has great detailing. I'm really happy with it, and I am pretty finicky seeing how awesome my tattoo artist back home was.
Thank you Yelpers for helping me find this place!
This place is literally two blocks from my apartment and they have been highly recommended. I have never had a tattoo before, so I just went in to inquire about pricing. The woman behind the counter didn't acknowledge my existence and I got such cold-icy attitude from her when she finally did. I left immediately knowing i would never go back there. i went to ADORNED instead and am very happy with my choice. I am sure they do great work here, but they need to work on their customer reception...wow
Review Source:Fifty years from now, when I am a wise old wrinkled yelper, I will let you know how my ink has held up. Then we can decide if ESI really deserves 5 stars. But for right now... YES!
Bang Bang (aka Keith) did an awesome, meticulous job and was very sweet. I also got to meet his 1 year old daughter -- she chilled with me on the couch while he finalized drawings. Nice.
ESI is well-sized, clean, affordable, and relaxed. And it happens to be a mere hop, skip, and jump away from Grape & Grain, and Lula's, too. Just sayin'.
I've been thinking about getting my first tattoo for a while but I wanted to be sure of what I wanted before I committed. I finally settled on a van Gogh inspired sunflower with two bees and headed to East Side Ink with that simple idea.
I picked ESI thanks to the fab reviews from my fellow yelpers and I was not disappointed. The shop is aesthetically pleasing, the vibe is relaxed and the staff is friendly. I walked in and CJay was available so I told him what I wanted. He asked me to give him 15 minutes to draw something up for me and I was thrilled with what he came up with, it was perfect!
He told me it should take about 1.5 hours and he had the time to do it so I went for it. I ended up going bigger than I originally planned but he'd done such a nice job with the design that I didn't want to go too small and lose all the details on the bees. I dragged my friend along for moral support but I was surprised to find that it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, I actually felt quite relaxed throughout the whole process. CJay was a total sweetheart and even though we went over the hour by 15 minutes at least he was cool enough to charge me just for the hour. ESI charges $200 an hour (cash only) but the workmanship is well worth it, the tattoo looks awesome and the overall experience was great. Now I just need to think of what I want next ;)
You're so pretty...it brings tears of joy to my eyes.
I imagine the only thing better than getting indelibly gorgeous here is to travel to the owner Josh's eatery the V Bar. Â
Impeccable shop, wonderful artists, and all around originals. Â Savor every second, cause it'll be with you for life.
Let me just say that... I LOVE EAST SIDE INK!
A close friend of mine got hers done just a few months ago by Sweety and highly recommended him and I was in love with his work on her. Of course, I Â found myself on Yelp reading just about every single post and if I wasn't sold by my friend... Yelp certainly pulled it off. I just got mine done yesterday and it was my first of a few to come! :) Granted, I'm still pretty high off the excitement of how absolutely perfect it came out and granted I brought in a picture of what I wanted, but I wanted to add a quote, have it look whimsical and make it blend in with the design and Sweety did not let me down!
He is a very sweet guy, the place is great and relaxed, the people are nice, I can't say enough good things about it! Just be aware when going in to a consultation there is a $100 deposit and it's cash only.
I was finally ready to get my first bit of ink and I wanted to find the best place to get it done at. This was no easy task being in NYC and I had no intentions of going down to W. 4th and letting any old Joe do something that's going to be on my body for the rest of my life.
So I heard from a few buddies that East Side Ink was the place to go. I looked it up and did my research and I was impressed. I took a trip down there to get a consult and I was sold.
When you walk in the vibe is very chill and laid back. There's never any judgment on what you want to get done. The girl at the desk was very helpful and told me to look through the massive books of the work the artists had done. I chose Sweety and paid my $100 deposit and booked my appointment for two weeks.
Came back in two weeks and let me just say that Sweety calmed any nerves I had. He was extremely nice and it didn't hurt that he was nice to look at as well. He's very quick and precise, I was very pleased with his work. After he was done, he took the time to tell me exactly how to take care of it.
I would definitely recommend East Side Ink for your first tattoo or your seventh. The staff and the talent here is just great.
Patrick did some amazing work for us! You can see an example of his talent here:

This place also gets bonus points for being one of the old school shops in NYC that has kept up with the times.
East Side Ink... what can I say? I'm in love!
The place is clean and not at all suspicious looking, unlike many other tattoo/piercing places around town. They have a $100 deposit policy, if you walk in for a consult and then make an appointment for the actual tattooing at a later date. A friend of a friend had her tattoo done here, and she recommended. However, I also read about them on some website, and of course I read every yelp review posted to date.
For my first tattoo all I wanted was just a simple date and text combo in memory of my father's passing, on my right foot. My artist was Mark Harada, who was very helpful in the decision making process, very professional, straightforward and just genuinely nice. (This was surprising to me, how nice everyone working there was, because I'm still traumatized from when I got my tongue pierced somewhere on St. Mark's back in 2003, and in addition to my pierced tongue I got a ton of attitude and almost hostility, from the peeps working there. In retrospect I think I wasn't cool enough for that place.) Anyhow, the script that Mark had written for me was beautiful and exactly what I wanted.
Overall if you are looking for clean, professional and no-attitude place to get some ink on you, this is your spot. You can't go wrong with them. Just ask questions if you're not sure about something and you will be satisfied. I know I was, and I will be coming back pretty soon...
As I'm still in pain as I write this, it's apparent not much time has past, and the experience is still fresh in my head...and on my skin. Â This is the third tattoo I've gotten from East Side Ink over five sessions, and while each was a five star experience, this one just blew my mind to where I could be silent no longer!
My latest piece is an idea I've been sitting on for almost three years. Â I've been postponing it because I just couldn't quite get it right in my head, and how could I ever explain it well enough for someone to replicate it on paper, and susequently on my arm? Â But I figured after two very successful goings with Patrick Conlon, it was worth a shot. Â I did my consult almost a month before I got the work done, so for a solid month I thought of nothing but how terribly it COULD end up, but when I showed up to get it done, it was so far beyond the best my mind's eye could come up with that I ok'd it immediately.
It's no surprise that a tattoo artist with 18-plus years is a fantastic artist, but the experience with Patrick and the shop in general is just top notch. Â The sense I get from all of the artists is that its your experience and they're just the means for you to get there. Â They're very respectful of how personal getting a tattoo inherently is, and how potentially life-changing it is for the ink recipient. Â Add to that that it's a clean shop, and that many of the staff have worked with the NYC government to develop the clean standards on tattooing and the experience as a whole doesn't get much better than this.
I keep telling myself I'm going to give other shops a chance, just to branch out a bit and try out different stuff, but with each visit to East Side Ink, I'm reminded that that just doesn't seem necessary.
I did extensive research before I got my first tattoo and I finally ended up at East Side Ink. It is totally not intimidating, clean, and as welcoming as a tattoo parlor can be :)
The place is a big, open room, essentially a public room, where people can watch (even those oustide, since it has huge windows in the front). I was getting a tattoo on my rib cage area, and the artist gave me the option to put a partition up, so I can get it done in private, but I was totally comfortable doing it in the open. Â
The tat artist was very patient and listened to everything that I wanted. It took about 40 minutes and I was charged the minumum ($100), even though it was a pretty small tattoo. I didn't mind because he did a phenomenal job.
I was a newbie and they made the experience great...considering I sweat profusely, turned white, and began to pass out. They were extremely patient. Â Didn't even make fun of me, I was able to make fun of myself. The place was clean. Sweety did my tattoo and it came out great. I can't imagine anyone nicer than him. I think I'm about to make a return trip. Â Even though while passing out I asked, "How do you people do this?" I get it now. I WANT MORE. I don't even know what of...I need to calm down. Â But it's such a great experience.
Review Source:East Side Ink is just amazing. I might even give it 6 stars. Maybe I'm biased because I've only been to two tattoo parlors, but my tattoos from East Side compared to the other are significantly better. I've had both Mark (who apparently moved?) and Sweety and have had a near-flawless experience.
My most recent tattoo was actually in need of a few touch ups after it healed, which bummed me out because East Side's negative side is the $$, BUT, turns out touch ups are FREE and I am a happy, satisfied customer once again.
The parlor can get a tad busy and the mininum price is $100, but these guys always seem to nail the design right on the head. The artists are also really laid back (or so it seems) so I can see how people might be put off, but their work is just the best.
It took me a while to settle what i wanted for a second tattoo. i'm so glad i came here. sweety did my tattoo and he was great. he was able to exceed my expectations. the tattoo came out great. in two sessions i had exactly what i asked for.both times i was there i saw how attentive the guys here are and they listen to their clients and offer great advice. the place is clean and they always make time to explain and answer questions. Â i would highly recommend this place even for newbies.
Review Source:Considering I got my first tattoo in Utica, NY, this place is definitely a step up. I was able to email them my design's font so they could piece it together to put an outline on my body. As I had the tattoo done in a more...private area...Alex was extremely professional and it wasn't awkward or anything...it is a little strange to have a guy with a needle at your bikini zone for half an hour but it was totally fine.
As everyone else said it's an extremely nice place and I was actually able to get an appointment the night of that I called in during the day. I only had to wait for about an hour at which I spent a while at Casimir - a great french place with actual french people there so it was nice to wait there next door to East Side Ink. Even sitting on the couches and nice furniture inside the tattoo place with previous works of the artists to look at while waiting.
In addition I was unaware I had to pay in cash, which I had none of and none of the ATMs in the area were working for my cards, so they were actually nice enough to let me bring cash by the next day when I could get some - which is incredibly rare that they are that trusting - though after all they did have my email address and a copy of my license.
I still need to go get it touched up as some of the letters aren't fully complete but the tattoo still turned out really well.
Needles was super sweet when I got my second tattoo here a few months ago, despite my squeamy squirming and sad pain faces. Â He wanted to make sure I liked my placement and shading before he started, and he did an even more fabulous job that I was expecting. Â Super professional, clean and airy place, healed up fine. Â
As for the comment below about price, I mean, it's a tattoo. Â You'll have it forever. Â It matters, regardless of how big you want it or how long it takes to do. Â Do you really want to skimp on paying for it?
Ok, East Side Ink... you can pay to get this review deleted by yelp if you want. I'll understand.
I have to agree with Kelly's comments. This place is clean, blah blah blah, but the receptionist is the angel of death. She should probably change professions as it seems that she hates people.
I went with a friend to get a tattoo that was about 1 inch by 1/2 an inch small. The total labor was probably about 15 minutes. Â I was expecting her to pay something close to $50 (or less). When I saw the minimum was $100, I was completely unimpressed.
I think these artists do great large works, but if you're looking to get a small tat, this is probably not your best bet.
I got my first tattoo from ESI a month and a half ago, and I couldn't be happier. I worked with Sweety who did an amazing black and grey version of a lady from a painting that I love. I've been stopped by so many people on the street who want to take a closer look at the tat, amazed at the level of detail.
Sweety was incredibly helpful, making sure I was happy with the design and the placement before we got started, letting me take quick breaks every now and then, and keeping me distracted from the pain by answering my many many random questions.
I also really like the space that ESI has: it's open, modern, and doesn't at all resemble the tons of crap tattoo shops that sprinkle this city. Everyone at ESI was really cool and helpful, and I couldn't have asked for a better first tat experience!
I did the unthinkable.. I finally got my second tattoo after 8 years of my first one. I've been wanting one forever and I stopped by this place few times to check out their artist's work.. very impressive...
One day on my way to meet up with my friend.. it was still early so I decided to stop by again and this time I just had the urge of getting one for real.. totally impulsive thing to do. and I didn't regret it at all.
My tattoo artist was very professional and he gave me a very nice design. I really like my newly tattoo!! it was painful as hell but totally worth it.. I'm already start thinking what should my next tattoo be??
I've come to ESI a few times to get work done on a sleeve. From concept, to drawing up the design, and to application. Saying that these guys are amazing is an understatement, when I say I could not have asked for a better tattoo. My artist is Needles, and he's done nothing but outstanding work on my arm. Everywhere I go people ask me to show them what work I've gotten done. When I lift my sleeve I just see their jaws drop.
"Holy S**t, that's amazing!"
"That's hot!"
If that doesnt complement his work and the work done by these guys then my reviews and the other 4-5 star reviews should really make your decision easier. I was looked after and made to feel comfortable here. Needles took the time to see me and feel for the work I wanted done. I'll be going here for awhile. These guys deserve the reviews they get.
I stopped in at East Side because it's close to my place, and I've been thinking about getting some text on my wrist for several years. Well, one day was as good as another, and I figured, hey, this place gets good Yelp reviews, so why not?
I knew what I wanted, vaguely, and it's lucky that I also know how to use Photoshop, or I'd have ended up with something truly awful. I was told that the girls who worked the front desk would help me choose a font and a layout. Unfortunately, they didn't know how to arrange text (basic kerning/tracking/justification, people, seriously, this is going to be on me FOREVER) and were generally aloof. Ladies, just because you have a thousand tattoos and are like, so over it, doesn't mean I don't care about the few I have looking great.
The tattoo artist was fine, and the tat looks great, healed quick. But I'll be damned if I go back there to pay $100 to do most of the work myself. I know I'm not the coolest kid on the block, and my tattoo certainly isn't anything close to badass, but I love it and care about it, and it would have been nice if somebody could have put their potato chips down for five seconds, looked me in the eye, and said "Yeah, let's figure out how to do this right."
If you're looking for caring, motivated, involved staff who want to help you with their expertise, don't go to East Side.
I got my first tattoo five years ago at Inkstop, which had been highly recommended to me. Â Love that tat, the colors stayed beautiful, so I tried to return there for my 2nd. Â Well, they were pretty impossible about getting it done quickly (and I just wanted 5 small bees .... nothing major).
So, after scoping the reviews here on Yelp, I decided to just show up at East Side Ink - I was impressed with the high marks and great reviews and the pictures of the work they've done. Â I walked in at 1:15 yesterday afternoon and spoke to the girl at the desk. Â Although they seemed pretty booked, she felt they could fit me in by 3 or 4. Â I popped across the street for a sandwich and coke, came back and was sitting comfortably in their waiting area, Twittering w/my Tweeps, and at about 2pm an artist introduced himself and asked what he could do for me!
Mark looked at my design, did the outlines for it, we discussed the colors and how to make the tattoo work best (original design was pink & green). Â He went to work, and I was done in an hour. Â He was great, very professional, straight-forward, and I LOVE my tattoos!!! Â I passed his card along to another friend who wants to get her first tat done and has a really cool design to figure out.
I HIGHLY recommend this shop - clean, bright, comfortable, friendly, and the work I saw being done was really impressive. Â My tats were not intricate or difficult (yeah, I'm a lightweight), but although I think Mark was amused, he made sure I got the best results!!!!
I went to ESI on 3/21/09; my artist was Alex Sherker. Â This was my first time ever at ESI and my fourth (and largest) tattoo overall. Â
Before beginning this review, I have to comment a bit on the 3-star review below from 1/8. Â (Yes, I know this isn't a discussion forum.) Â Never in my life have I gone into a tattoo parlor and been greeted. Â I can't explain it in some profound sociological sense; it's just how it is. Â I point this out because I wouldn't want a reader to get excited by the 3-star review and decide against ESI for his or her first tattoo. Â In fact, I would strongly, strongly recommend this place, reader, for your first tattoo. Â If you want to have an awful customer experience, go to Jinx Proof in DC, where you'll be made to feel like an utter intruder--uncool enough to purchase their service. Â If you want a clean, professional, and mega-friendly-in-the-context-of-tattoo-parlors establishment, hit up ESI. Â With that, on to the details of my visit.
Like I said, my artist was Alex. Â He is clearly very patient, smart, and good at what he does. Â He offered to show me my piece at some different sizes and worked with me to figure out the best placement. Â He also invited my g/f back into the studio, which was nice. Â During the actual work, I must say i got the impression that this guy is incredibly cool. Â He's got a great sense of humor, and we talked about all kinds of stuff: Â getting old, the economy, the how-to of prison tattoos, etc. Â We had some good laughs and I felt very comfortable that I could have asked for a break at any time (this is important for the n00bs, and highly relevant here as this was by far the most painful tattoo I've received yet--I had no clue the calf would suck so bad!). Â
At the end of the session, he gave me some great tips on care relative to where my tattoo was on my body, some things to expect from the healing process that would be a bit different (e.g., the area swells more), and he even rounded down on time. Â That blew me away; really classy move.
All in all, this was the best experience I've had since my first tattoo (from Fatty's, in DC). Â I will definitely go back, and I will definitely ask for Alex. Â I'd recommend ESI to veterans and n00bs alike. Â Great.
Let me preface my review by saying this was my first tattoo so I don't have the experience and background enough to compare with other tattoo artists or other tattoos (first hand anyway). I can however compare to a number of other tattoo places because not only had I been to a few in the past but I visited quite a few before I chose East Side as the place to get my first tat.
East side is the most professional, cleanest, and nicest looking tattoo parlor I have ever been in to date. They don't do piercings and they don't sell bongs, this is only a tattoo place and as such they gain a lot of respect from me and the tattoo community. Unlike some places that have a snobby pretentious attitude (especially if you're not covered in tattoos) the guys at East Side were really friendly and helpful. The procedure here is that they require you to make two appointments, one to meet with your artist and chat about your idea/design and give a deposit and the second to get your tattoo. This gives you a chance to actually meet the person who will do the work and give them time to design something for you (if you don't already have a design). They really rely on the artists to help you develop a design because there are no cliche posters of old designs here. The only tattoo designs you'll see here are those in the portfolios of the artists (of which you can also see in their amazing website). The prices here are very reasonable and as long as you're getting something that takes at least 30min (which nearly everything does) they are roughly the same prices as tiny scummy places with 10 times the value ($200/hr with $100 minimum)
Josh Lord is one of the owners here I believe and probably one of the best at the shop from what I hear but when I tried getting an appointment with him he was booked for more than 6 months and was not taking anymore appointments. I ended up going with Ethan Morgan. He was a great guy and extremely professional (he used to own his own parlor in California). My tattoo didn't exactly turn out perfect but it still looks good and to my surprise (and for friends of mine who have had tattoos before) the tattoo healed extremely quickly. My tattoo was only slightly red for a very short period and never really peeled or scabbed, it was pretty painless even when it was being done and I think this speaks about Ethan's experience as an extremely professional tattoo artist. I'm perfectionist so I don't know if any other artist would have done my tattoo any better but regardless I loved my experience here at East Side and would recommend anyone who's looking for a place to get work done to consider East Side.
I was a complete tattoo virgin when I went to East Side, I went to see Mark based on a recommendation from a friend, I arrived on time for my appt at like 5:30 on a Friday, annouced who I was and Mark came right over to introduce himself. I explained what I wanted a hummingbird on the inside of my left wrist ,the inspiration for which was a necklace, in preparation I had printed out like 300 designs assuming I would have to settle on something that sort of looked like the necklace but not exactly, Mark let me explain and then said, just give me the necklace if that's what you want it to look like that's what we're doing, he had it drawn in about 5 mins and I was happy with it, was basically just a line drawing but I was satisfied, he explained some sort of shading, but I was so nervous/have no idea about tattoos so I just nodded and smiled, I was hyperventilating a little at this point ha ha. Thankfully Mark was very re-assuring, at one point as he was putting the ink in the pen I said that I wished I had had the time to get a drink before the tat but was rushed from work, he said he didn't care my friend and I could go and come back in a bit no big deal, which I thought was super nice, but at this point the ball was rolling, adrenaline was pumping and I wasn't about to wait, so I sat down, my friend there for more support grabbed a chair and sat next to me so I could squeeze her hand. He repositioned it twice for me until I was happy then started, was super patient about helping me relax, it didn't hurt as much as I thought right at first, but there were definitely some very tender spots, the wrist is kind of a sensitive spot. He finished the outline and I would have been satisfied with that, he convinced me to hold out through a few mins more for the shading, and I am so happy I did, that's when he really got to work, the shading turned out BEAUTIFULLY. He was super nice about explaining how to care for it and gave me his card in case I had any questions. I was also amazed that it was only $100 since that's the minimum at the place, well worth it, I'm already contemplating my second, I heard they were addictive, they are for sure. It took me 3 years of contemplation to committ to this one, so I'll probably be back in 2012 haha, but I'm sure East Side will still be around!
Review Source:Okay, please don't shoot me, but i didn't love the place.
I went here for my first tattoo around thanksgiving after visiting previously to check it out and reading all the great feedback on Yelp. I went with a friend who was also going to get a tattoo. When we got there we weren't really greeted, but had to approach the counter ourselves and say HI to the receptionist to get her attention. she just glumly said "hi" back and then continued to look at whatever she was reading. We almost had to shout "We'd like to get tattoos" for her to pay us any attention and even after that she wasn't the nicest.
Our tattoo artist was Needles, who seemed like a nice guy but not exactly the most personable or comforting. He seemed annoyed with my friend when she asked him to reposition the placement of her stencil, and she only asked once! I had hoped to come to a place where I wouldn't feel pressured into agreeing to something simply because the artist seemed disgruntled, but that's exactly how my friend felt (and this wasn't her first tattoo). After we were both done, we weren't really instructed on how to care for our tattoo. I had to ask to get any sort of direction (this was before they handed me a little sheet on tattoo care). I've gone with others to get their tattoos before and normally there is some sort of spiel along with the paper.
Anyways, overall it was an OK experience. It's definitely super clean and the artists are very talented. Prices are reasonable too, i think their minimum is $100, which is what we paid plus a $20 tip. Perhaps we went on an off night. I would just be wary if you are tattoo virgin and are hoping for a more friendly experience (rather than the type of shops that look you up and down and pretty much ignore you) this wasn't as great as i had hoped. But i'm really happy with my tattoo, which healed perfectly so i guess that's all that matters.
What better way to end a trip to NYC than a spontaneous trip to a world class tattoo parlor? I recently met up with two of my college bestests in the city for a weekend extravaganza, and on a Sunday evening around 7 it was suggested (by the ink virgins) that we get tattoos to commemorate the trip.
I've been tattooed by artists from Dallas to Bangkok and can't say enough about how impressed I was with East Side Ink. My friends got their first tattoos and were thrilled with the experience... Mark and Alex were our artists and Josh re-opened the shop after they'd closed for the night.... especially for us (he was unable to tattoo bc of an injury).
The studio was immaculately clean without feeling like a doctor's office ... and somehow it was cozy and very chill without feeling like a headshop. If you're even considering a tattoo and you are within a 100 mile radius of East Side Ink, check this place out!! Don't waste your time anywhere else. I live in all the way in South Carolina and I'm already planning my next trip back to have Mark tattoo my back/side piece!
so i just got a tattoo from mark harada at east side ink today. Â first off, the place is incredibly clean and everyone - from the woman helping behind the desk, to the other tattoo artists - is so friendly here. Â they play a mixture of fun, upbeat music (unlike most sketchy places that always play loud angry hate music) and they really do a good job at making you feel comfortable. Â mark understood what i wanted right away but was still patient when i was asking to make adjustments. Â the tattoo turned out fantastic - really looks beautiful and unique. Â i couldn't be happier.
Review Source:my friend and I went here to get tattoos, we walked in with no apointment and were seen pretty quickly my friend was seen right away she got a small tattoo on her foot which turned out beautiful by an artist that im not sure of his name. I wanted an inner lip tattoo there were 4 guys working in the shop and 3 of them hadnt done lips or knew they wernt good at them so they wouldnt do it but one of them said he knew how to do it (alex) so I went with him, I was hesitant becuase iv seen some pretty crappy inner lip tattoos they're kind of hit or miss. He was totaly sanitary, really fun awesome personality made me feel totaly at ease and the tattoo came out *beautiful* cursive writing on the inside of my lip so far theres not really any bleeding it looks fantastic I honestly don't think anyone could have done a better job. I'm defenitly going back there for my next tattoo the shop is *incredibly* nice and clean, the staff is friendly and funny and all in all you cant really ask for much more (except a lower minnimum but you def get what you pay for)
Review Source:All but shady! I was a little nervous, this being my first tattoo and all but Alex's laid back attitude and the shop itself helped me to relax (having a friend with you can't hurt).
I had brought my own design and Alex executed it perfectly in 45 minutes. Afterward they gave me a paper with simple instructions on how to take care of the healing skin for the next few days. All in all it was a lot of fun and I am now thinking of going back again for more inks!
I'm getting married!!
I've finally found "the one" as they say. We're happy and ready to do this damn thing! One of the first events we did too celebrate... throw an engagement party! It was off the chain. 30 plus people crammed into my 1 bedroom east village apartment. The reason why... because God decided to piss on our party. The shindig was meant to be outside in our apartment garden, but due to heavy rain it quickly and uncomfortably was moved indoors.
At this point you're probably saying "What the fuck does this have to do with East Side Ink?"
Well 5 of my good friends decided mid-party that it'd be a great idea to all get cranberries tattooed on us. Why? We were drunk and why not? Â Now I have a good amount of tattoos already and know good and god damn well, no respectable tattoo studio would take on 5 drunk assholes and hook them up with cranberries. But like I said, I was drunk and thought "Sure, lets go for it!"
Sure enough, East Side wouldn't take us.
I know I actually haven't gotten tattooed there but the shop looks amazing and judging from the pictures here, you're in capable hands. I'm sure I'll be walking down there soon enough to get something legit done.
I'm thinking cranberry neck tattoo?
Amazing artists, uber clean and very cool shop, and accommodating staff! Â I walked in late on a Saturday and got an earlyish appt the following day, Sunday. Â I was incredibly impressed with not only the quality of the art, but the technique. Â I don't know what he did differently, but as a woman with really sensitive skin, I'm used to bleeding and oozing for days after a tattoo and experiencing a very painful healing process (I have 6 tattoos and this has always been the case) - the aftermath for this tattoo (after 3.5hrs) was barely even noticable! Â Barely any scabbing and a little more than a week later, it's almost fully healed. Â I have reccommended ESI to all my friends and am taking my b/f there to get his first tattoo (if he ever makes up his mind) - 100% perfectly amazing experience!
Review Source:I'm the happiest turtle tattooed girl ever. Â Seriously, I have 47 tattoos, and this place gave me possibly the best experience I've ever had both for the art and the (lack of) attitude. Â
There is an interesting inclination on Yelp to share the references of your favorite resources, but on the other hand, you want to play them close to the vest as well - your own special place. Â This tattoo shop, while featuring world class artists, is one of those places for me.
I found this shop through a wild and wooly route: Â about 16 years ago I got a tattoo in San Francisco by a guy named Patrick Conlon, and it remains one of my favorite tattoos. Â I was looking to get a new, large piece, and it seems over the years many of my favorite artists have decamped or stopped tattooing, or something has happened. Â So I looked on this here internet thingie and found some guy name Patrick Conlon...in New York. Â Could it be? Â It was! Â At East Side Ink!
So I went in and talked to him about my style and how much I loved his old work. Not only is my tattoo by Patrick almost old enough to drink, it's held up gorgeously. Â I'm a walking testament to his ability to tattoo so well that it ages gracefully. Â His style has evolved into something that would have been a major departure for me, so he recommended his co-artist, Josh Lord. Â I am the luckiest tattooed freak in the world to have met Josh Lord.
His work is impeccable, his attitude oddly nurturing, his manner sweet, his line quality some of the most gorgeously rendered, his hand light and as pain free as a tattoo can hope to be, and he's incredibly collaborative. Â Oh, and after my consult, we hugged goodbye - it was that bonding an experience. Â While I was waiting for my placement, another customer came in and brought him a present - he is obviously well loved.
I am enthralled by Josh's work, and Patrick Conlon and Andrea Ellis' work as well. Patrick does the most lush, delicious pin ups and sensual ilustrations, and Andrea does amazing black and gray work and Japanese style pieces. Â These people are so talented, they could do anything, but they've obviously found the styles that make them happy. Â Which makes me happy. Â Deliriously.
I can't wait for a sitting with my next giant piece. Â Yay!
I visited this newly opened shop yesterday, and it's a nice space, with some very talented tattooers.Andrea,Patrick,& Joshua, formerly of Macdougal Tattoo, just opened this place, and it's one of the nicest shop's in Manhattan. What set's this shop apart from alot of shop's is that the artists are versatile in all styles of tattooing.
