This place was beyond sh---y.  I made an appointment to meet with Troy and he sent out his scheduler and did not even bother to meet with me directly.  Although he did walk by and out of the shop.  If you are not one of their regulars don't even bother.  These guys have their heads up their a--es.

Clean, Efficient, Professional and a very good overall experience!

I went in (on very short notice) to get an egyptian symbol with an old childhood friend of mine.  They were very accommodating about me wanting to come in on such short notice and so late at night!

The shop is very cool on the outside (truly invisible) and although small, it is very well set-up.  I had been here before with a friend, and she had a great experience as well.

My artist, Damien Rodriguez, was extremely thorough, helpful and professional.  He made sure the stencil was the perfect size, perfectly symmetrical, and exactly where I wanted it.  That thorough work ethic was also expressed during the tattoo itself, when he made sure everything was absolutely perfect.  The price was also very reasonable.  Overall, I am very happy - although it was a simple tattoo, forever is forever, and professionalism for big or small projects truly means a lot.  It also helped that they knew my other artist out on long island.  I would definitely recommend this place to someone looking for a tattoo shop in NYC!

    clean.. check!
    talented...check!
    professional... check!
    atmosphere... check!

i followed my artist, Rob Bonhomme, here and man, i like this shop.  i like that it's small and intimate... the other staff were super nice too.  i got my cheshire cat here about 6 months ago, and i love it! Rob is great, everyone always asks me where i get my ink and i always send em to Rob... he's at invisible ink now... and that's where i'll keep going.
invisible ink also hosted a skateboarding party not too long ago, they did some free small flash pieces, i didnt get to go to the party... but my friends that went said that the invisible ink guys rocked it out... great jobs fellas!

the music they play is totally appropriate for a tattoo parlor, and i like how clean and neat everything is!  A+.... i recommend this parlor to anyone!

Started a 1/2 sleeve and I had a good idea what I wanted. I explained to Troy and apparently he knew exactly what I wanted. He drew it free hand and thirty minutes later he was doing my outline..!! Session number 2 is this weekend. He is definetly a master of the gun.!!

    [ QUALITY ]

i spent 2 years here getting a back piece done and have been extremely happy with my experience here =)

    technical details:
    - very clean
    - very professional. im used to being around mostly guys, so nothing shocks me.. but they've always been great, and ive never felt uncomfortable.. even though i spent most of my time here half nekkid on a table..
    - ALL of the artists here do excellent, quality work. i can't stress enough how amazing their work is.

i searched through a sh!tload of artists, trying to find a right fit for my back piece.  i wanted to be head over heels in love with the artist's work before commiting my physical body to a piece of art.  i actually found troy denning's work, which i really liked, but it lead me to regino gonzales' work.. and although i was looking to have a japanese piece done, i fell in love with his paintings and gypsy tattoos.  regino's work surpassed my expectations.. and besides being a phenomenal artist, he is a great person, and was professional and accomodating while i was a client.

    - overall, great group of artists and one of the best places to get beautiful custom work done.

A friend was in town looking to get her first tattoo, a good size Asian-themed piece, so a few of us made a day of touring a few different shops in the area. This spot was a must see, because of Troy Denning's reputation. In fact, all of the artist's portfolios are top notch. We were planning on hopefully squeezing in a consultation and setting up an appointment for down the road, but my friend lucked out that Gustavio (I think their newest hire) was available to start the tattoo in a couple days. He did a tracing of her arm and prepared a great sketch, which he filled out with sharpie once the stencil was applied. The outline looks fantastic...so fantastic that myself and the other friend I was with are probably going to get work done by Gustavio. He's supremely talented, and the shop has a cool atmosphere.

I went in to inquire about doing a cover-up job on an old tattoo.  I explained my limitations on size, due to the work I do, and Reg completely took over.  He sketched out an entire back piece as the best solution to cover a tattoo the size of a quarter on my shoulder.

I'm sure he's good at what he does and is a skilled artist, but he has some work to do on listening skills.  I felt he had a clear idea of what he wanted to do, but wasn't much interested in what I wanted.  He had no business card, but scratched his website on a scrap of paper for me (this didn't inspire much confidence as his profile is not on the Invisible website - who was this guy?)

So, I can't speak to the actual service of receiving a tattoo here, but given the first conversation, I will take my project elsewhere.

Invisible NYC isn't for everyone. With that said, if you have a clear vision for what kind of work you want, and the aesthetic of the artists there match what you're looking for, then it's a great place to get a tattoo (or several, as has been the case for me).

Note that this is not a walk-in shop, which means that there is no flash on the walls for you to just choose something that appeals to you at that very moment (and if that's what you're looking for, there are plenty of shops in NYC which fill that need well). They work by appointment only, which means that you'll need to look through portfolios, choose an artist, and then get a consultation where you describe your ideas. In my opinion, this results in a higher level of quality and an assurance that you're getting artwork that is truly unique, as it will give you time to figure out what you want to do and will give your artist time to craft something original that will match what you're looking for.

Okay, went back here for another tattoo today. My second tattoo and it was absolutely AMAZING AGAINN :D
Thank you Jeb! Like I said in my first review, "If I'm getting another tattoo, I would definately go here again", and- I did.
Again I gave him a hard time, this time no screaming except for the first 2 seconds. Hehe.
Going back again most likely. And next one is probably going to be biggerrrrrrrrrr.

An absolutely top notch tattoo shop.  Everyone there is super friendly and laid back.  I had no problem sitting there for hours while Marco did my sleeve listening to and telling stories and jokes no matter who happened to be working that day.  Every artist there does great work and I would feel privileged to let any one of them tattoo me.  It's not cheap but you get what you pay for, my sleeve from Marco Serio is an amazing piece of art that I am lucky enough to have on my body.

Troy and his crew are some of the funniest and most talented body artists I've met. Other shops may be a bit more luxurious and well known among the local celebs, but when it comes down to understanding the personal nature of ink and helping clients see beyond their expectations, these guys rock. Good tunes, too. Only nit ... wouldn't mind a more comfortable chair and a couple of asian chicks to help one relax... Oh yeah!

yeah, like everyone said this place is:
    + awesome
    + clean
    + beyond friendly / non-douchbag environment.
    + excellent work

This was also my first tattoo (1/2 sleeve + chest) that turned into another 1/2 sleeve + chest.  Troy Denning = tattoo god and well worth the time and money!

I will say that the rest of the crew, Jeb, Kiku, Marco are all awesome and you just can't go wrong with this joint.

Regino Gonzales  is the man in eyes despite having arrived late for our consult years back. Unfortunately I didn't end up getting the work due to some circumstances ( read: hella broke for months) , but I covet work from this gorgeous clean shop. He may not know it , but I've sent him a lot of clients. The one complaint that I have is that there doesn't seem to be an affinity for skin and feminine placement  in the designs here. Don't get me wrong, it's far from Tramp stamp city as you can get. The professionals here are art school trained and have gorgeous work, but the designs are so dense that you ignore the body underneath and as a woman, that was a draw back for me. Though, I found through others that if you speak up on that and see what they come up with you'll be happy.
They specialize in BIG pieces  and do a fine job at asian and ancient inspired tattoos. I'm still coming for my Ponies bitches! Right before my wedding!

It's true:  this shop is cool, the art pleasant, the music rockin', it's clean and well lit, and the boys are nice to look at too.  But is way too cool for school.
I had one rough experience after another with this shop.  I gave them plenty of chances to redeem themselves and ultimately had to walk away unsatisfied and with half a tattoo.
I made an appointment for an initial consultation, which happened to be in the midst of someone else's tattoo.  That was awkward; he leaned over to look at my research, gloves on, gun in hand, nodded his head and asked me to come back the following day so he could take pictures of my back.  So, I did, at the agreed time.  Which again, happened to be during someone's tattoo.  He acted confused as to why I was there, asked me to come back in 3 hours because he just couldn't stop what he was doing.  I kind of forced the issue and he ended up taking the pictures anyways.  (Oh, hope you're not shy if you go there; it's going to be your job to figure out how to stay covered and modest.  You'll end up stripping steps away from Orchard Street, elbow to elbow with other artists and clients alike.) I left my pictures and wrote a detailed description of what I wanted on a file folder and left a $100 deposit.
So, the day of my appointment, he was running behind schedule and asked me to come back in a little while.  I did so and he saw me an hour after my scheduled appointment.
Admittedly, some of my unhappiness is my own doing; I should have been more verbal.  But he started right in with a Sharpie on my back, where I couldn't really see what was going on.  They don't use flash paper anymore?  I know it's been a while since I've had a tattoo but I was somewhat surprised that there were no sketches, or even print outs of the photos he took.  Maybe I expected too much?  I thought all was going well, that we were working it out though.  But alas when his next appointment came in and he said he was just finishing up and he hadn't even approached the part of my body that the tattoo was supposed to be on, I knew something was terribly wrong.  Really, I'm sure the artist I saw here is a really good artist but he just did not listen or even read what I wanted done.  I now have a partially finished tattoo in the wrong spot, the wrong size, the wrong angle and he strayed from my picture and made additions to the design.  Not to mention the hour and half of incessant chatter by another artist talking in a little bit too much detail of his threesome the night before.
I thought it was my fault that I hadn't been clear enough.  So, I gave it another shot and made another appointment and took the 4 weeks in between to reconfigure my tattoo based on what had already been done.
An hour and twenty minutes before my appointment, the shop called and cancelled.  I was rescheduled for 5 days later.  Two days after that, I received a call that there was another conflict with my 6 pm appointment and my new appointment was going to be at 11 am.
I showed up at 11 am to incredulous looks from the guys who were opening the shop.  They knew nothing of my appointment, thought I had made a mistake, and were not encouraging that I would indeed have an appointment that day.  And as I sat there, the dudes who were setting up for the day sat and dissed a rival tattoo artist and his shop, they looked at his website, ragged on him for being expensive and his work inferior.  Well, it just so happens that artist who they were talking trash about is a friend of mine and I guess that just set up the day for me.  I baled at a quarter past, put off, disappointed and crabby.   My tattoo artist called me an hour later and left a message explaining that he had slept through his alarm and in all fairness he did offer 2 hours of free work if I wanted to come back.  I declined.  Thanks but no thanks.
These guys just don't appreciate how amazingly powerful it is to get a tattoo and undermine the psychic importance of the experience and the relationship between the artist and the client.  It's too bad; I was really feeling hopeful about this shop.
Like I said, the shop is cool, the work I'm sure magnificent but be prepared to feel like you are in a factory, that these guys are doing you a favor and be flexible with your schedule and your ideas.
Oh, and they still have my deposit.

I think the shop is to small to have an art gallery in front, and the little space in back as the tattoo shop.I wouldn't feel comfortable being tattooed in such a small space. The artists here do some of the best asian style work in the city.

I love Invisible!!  I had been wanting Regino to tattoo me for years and I finally got around to it. He has worked on literally dozens of clients and friends of mine.  I love his work, his light touch and his style of tattooing.  I got a 12" high Virgin of Guadalupe on my calf. She has the most delicate and beautiful face I have ever seen on a tattoo.

Regino's work is *always* top notch and the tattoos that were happening when I was there were all very clean and superbly executed.  The environment was comfortable and my ink looks great!!!

So, it's a tattoo shop that has paintings of what I can only imagine are actual tattoos. The work that was up when I was there was a Shawn Barber grouping of paintings done specifically on the fingers, you know the ones. Tough guys always get ink that says: HOPE LESS, HARD CORE, LOVE HATE.. you get the picture.
I poked my head in thinking it was another gallery, but then I heard that familiar buzz and knew right away it wasn't just a gallery. The guy at the front desk barely looked up from creating whatever drawing he's about to forever ink into someone's virgin skin..oh, well, maybe he's doing a cover up, you can never be too sure. I mentioned something like "Oh, I thought this was a gallery, oh, uh, yea, looks like you have some art up on the wall, uh huh" or something equally eloquent, to which he retorted 'grunt'. It was a very New York moment.

This is my favorite place in the world, and I am not just saying that.  The tattoo work is of the highest quality ( Why else would I commit an entire body suit to Troy) and of the cleanest standards in the Industry.  The gallery always has amazing shows of some of the most talented artists currently working.  The staff are possible the nicest people this side of the mason-dixon line, seriously.  Very inviting envirnment.  It is a must for any one interested in tattooing or art.
