Made a visit to Fineline in August and Mehai was there to tattoo a self-designed Chinese horse symbol on my left shoulder. A few weeks after the tattooed healed, I've noticed that it needs to be retouched.
Went back to Fineline in mid-September and Mehai retouched the tattoo (at no charge) until it was perfect.
Will recommend and definitely come back again for future tattoo work...
A no-frills, tiny shop I wandered into for the first time on the basis of their good reviews and a sudden burning desire to have a tattoo yesterday. Â I asked for one word in simple cursive on the side of my wrist, as delicate and small as possible. Â I paid the shop minimum, tipped generously, and was in and out under thirty minutes with exactly what I wanted. Â
Although all my previous tattoos are under my clothes and it would be easy to assume this was my first tattoo (in fact, Danny asked me if it was about halfway though) I didn't get the slightest bit of attitude. Â I dare say if it had been my first tattoo I might have wanted a bit more handholding. Â :) Â
While other shops offer a lot more as far as ambience, this place was clean, friendly, and professional. Â I would consider returning for their very reasonable prices.
This was my fifth tattoo and my husband's first (he's the reviewer below me!) Â I got another small tattoo done at FineLine about three years back. Â Not only did I have a great experience, but it's held up extremely well. Â This time around, we checked out one other place before coming to FineLine and I was completely shocked at the price I got quoted. Â Thought I would head over to FineLine again and was very pleased by the cost and the experience. Â
Mehai is super professional, nice and honest. Â Both of our tattoos came out perfectly. Mehai even advised me on a more traditional color scheme for mine, and I was glad I went with that instead of something "trendy." Â
This place is definitely old school...don't expect one of the lounge-y salon-type places from the reality shows. Â But it's clean and comfortable, and I'll definitely be back! Â They accept walk-ins and appointments.
I got my first tattoo here this summer and I wish I'd gone somewhere else, especially for my first. Mike did it and, yeah, he was friendly enough, but he really messed it up.
My design was simple and very minimalistic. It consisted of only seven straight lines, each about one inch long, if that. The very first line he tattooed was just a straight up and down one inch line. Simple. But the bottom of the line has a little finer line split off bent towards the right -- looks like the split end of a string or something. Also, I thought the lines in general could've been a little cleaner. The aesthetic point of my tattoo was to be simple and clean cut. Now, eh, well, I've convinced myself to be happy about it 'cause obviously I'm stuck with it, but still pretty pissed Mike messed up that line. I mean, you've been tattooing for 40-something years or whatever you said -- how do you mess up a straight line?!
I noticed the mistake after I'd left the shop after I had my friend take a picture of my tattoo from a straight on angle (it was on my back/nape of my neck). I came back a few hours later to show Mike the mistake and he seemed a little uneasy about it, and suggested I come back in a week if it was still there. He said it might just be something on the surface that'll disappear when it heals. I knew it wasn't just going to "disappear" and it didn't. And I wasn't about to waste my time coming back in to show him and have him possible attempt to fix it. I definitely wouldn't trust him to fix it.
The place is clean and the guys there are friendly and stuff, but I woudln't feel comfortable recommending this place (or Mike, at least) to anyone. This was my first tattoo and I'm a perfectionist -- I can't look at my tattoo anymore without seeing that frayed end. It sucks. Even if I weren't a perfectionist -- c'mon, Mike, a straight line's shouldn't be so hard for a "professional" such as yourself, right?
My wife and I went to FineLine yesterday afternoon to get my first and her fifth tattoo. While I was confident with the design, I was uneasy about the getting a tattoo. Mehai was extremely professional and guided me through the process. The custom design came out great and I am so happy to with outcome. I look forward to getting more work done on my arm by Mehai.
Review Source:Got a simple text and date tat from Angelo who was very professional and efficient...he stay a little later which was awesome. I told him the text and numbers where the initials / DOB of my late friend JSL.......and he happy to help meout.

My boyfriend and I have wanted to get second tattoos for a very long time. We walked around the village all day searching for the best and cheapest shop. We were so happy to have come across FineLine Tattoo Shop. Danny and Mehai were friendly, professional and efficient tattoo artist. I wanted a dainty, pretty butterfly tattoo and Mehai did a great job and I was super happy with my tat. Danny worked on my boyfriends ohio state tattoo that he's wanted forever to cover a scar. My boyfriend was super pumped with his results. Â We got exactly what we wanted for a great price. I will definitely be getting my next tattoo from FineLine :)
Review Source:Fineline Tattoo is an institution. Â It is filled with consummate professionals. Â There are no frills, bells and whistles. Â They save all that for their artistry. Â Mehai has been tattooing me for the past few years, including creating and executing a full sleeve that is nothing less than spectacular. Â Angelo has even tattooed my 60+ yr old mom! Â And it doesn't hurt that they are all really nice people. When I am stopped in the street about my tattoos I immediately say "go to Fineline!"
Review Source:Took my boyfriend's sister here to get a tattoo on her 18th birthday. Only had to wait a little bit. Angelo was the tattoo artist and he was really cool and the tattoo looked great. Not much else to say but that it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend this place. Also, they accept walk ins.
Review Source:I went here with a friend of mine for her first tattoo. She had been pretty nervous about getting her tattoo in general, & she hadn't had good experiences when we started going around trying to get it. Fine Line changed all that.
The shop is small, but clean and orderly. Â The artists each had their own space to work, so no one was stacked on top of anyone else. A friendly old dude was basking in the sun on a bench outside, more ink than wrinkles, & he welcomed us warmly. The artist talked to my friend as we looked through some books & together they decided on a modification of another piece he had on display. He was really friendly & calming, which was good as my friend began to feel lightheaded during the tattooing. Â He was happy to give her a break & wait until she was ready to go again, not the slightest bit impatient or rude. This was a welcome change from other shops & artists nearby.
When I'm ready for my next (40) tattoo(s), Fine Line is the only place I want to go.
For Father's day, my dad and I got tattoos together (highly recommended as a bonding activity). These were both our 1st tattoos and I was quite nervous but Mehai worked with both of us to get the right design for both of our tattoos. I wanted a bracelet tattooed on my arm that I had been wearing for several years. I thought it would be relatively simple but it wasn't quite and Mehai helped me to figure out exactly how it would look best. I ended up with the lettering tattooed around my wrist instead of the lettering plus black bracelet and I love it. It's absolutely perfect.
My dad got a symbol of the Consumptive Poets League which is a combination of the TB symbol and a fountain pen. My stepmom and some friends started the Consumptive Poets League and had a poetry magazine called Koff in the late 1970s. The tattoo is a tribute to that and it looks fantastic.
Fineline Tattoo is the only place I will EVER go for a tattoo.
I want to be tattooed by someone who loves the art of tattooing and does it for only that reason. Â That is what Fineline is about - no frills, just beautiful tattoos. Â It's a small shop on First Ave, but its legacy is larger than life. Â The walls are covered with stencils, sketches, and photos of their many tattoo-covered patrons. Â The talented artists who work there are friendly and down to earth, and I can't imagine a shop more laid back and comfortable than this one. Â Mehai's artistry is mindblowing, and I would recommend him to anyone. Â I've had three done at Fineline and I'm looking forward to more.
In an age when the world [NYC in particular] is full of snotty, upscale tattoo parlors decorated with chandeliers and marble, Fineline is a breath of fresh air.
I've had 3 tattoos done at fine line - 2 were done by Mihai- they turned out clean and sharp and healed quickly. The 3rd was done by Mike. I must say he was very heavy handed- it took a long time to heal and had a lot of blurring- it also did'nt fit my arm as I wanted it to ( totally my fault). I went back and mihai cleaned it up beautifully. He took the core design and reworked it to fit better and be a more interesting beautiful piece. I definitely recommend him.
Review Source:I go to Mihai semiregularly. Â He's done 3 of my 8 tattoos, but I'm expecting he'll do most of my future ones. Â He is quite skilled at fine line work (hence the studios name) and will discuss color with you very proficiently; I wanted something in red and he suggested we go to maroon so it would stay red with fading over time and it has!
Review Source:This is where I got my first and only tattoo. For months, I would go in with drawings, talk to the artists and they'd good naturedly laugh at me. In other words they were incredibly patient to someone who gets "white coat syndrome," i.e. Â I get very nervous around needles.
When I finally got it done, it looked gorgeous. I have a phoenix on my hip. The detail work is amazing; you can see the feathering of each feather (?), they took their time, made sure I was happy and even got me oj afterwards.
If I ever get the courage up for a second tattoo- this is where I am going
I don't like giving low stars - I prefer to find what makes an establishment good rather than just bitching about it. Â Unfortunately Fine Line really only deserves two stars. Â The pricing was fine, the location was convenient, and the tattoo artist was friendly...but wasn't GOOD. Â I went in to get an exact duplicate of a tattoo right below that one - I had a paw print and I wanted to add another right below it. Â Despite having a reference RIGHT there, the tattoo came out terrible - you can see where the gun stuttered in the lines, and the shading is amateur quality. Â Unfortunately I don't remember the artist's name, but I felt it was important to caution other Yelpers about the quality of the work done at Fine Line.
