Marshal has lead me to top of the line equipmnt that has improved both the safety and aestetic quality of my tattoos .i actually use unimax west , almost exclusively . i found that they were alot more customer freindly than new york and very patient and reasonable to deal with . UNIMAX WEST has been goos about matching prices and since i use them very frequently have cut me slack on shipping. in all categorys including resolving problems (which is inevitable in this world ) they do very well . it has always been pleasant dealing with Bree and autumn on the phone and I have sort of grown to feel a freinship with the owner Marshall who has given me great info about product safety and performance . I am now testing out the grey wash series they make which i was really pleased was made sterile. believe it or not this is not required of tattoo inks so i tip my hat for going above and beyond with safety !
Review Source:I really like this place - from the cleanliness and organization to the selection and helpful service. I almost went to a tattoo spot to get my ears stretched, but a friend suggested that I try here. So glad I did - it helps to save money and be able to talk to people who know what they're talking about. I'll be back!
Review Source:Unimax, oh how i love thee. To date, I can't find the jewelery i wear anywhere else but here. although i will admit i haven't ebayed or on line shopped because I'm more visual and i am more likely to buy something that is in front of me, especially when it is jewelry. Unimax is great. they have so many choices to choose from you can spend all day and all your money there.
They also have a tattoo/book section that i have only made it to a handful of times since starting to go here about 10 years ago. However they have great supplies and interesting books. More likely than not, you will not get helped if you don't ask someone. Usually that's how i go about it and i am helped immediately or shortly after. The employees that work there are extremely helpful. I know that if i bought online wholesale it would be cheaper but I'm a fan of Unimax, and i hope a few cents more they charge will help them survive. I bought 5 pieces of jewelry for a little over $20. I'm not complaining as they are all big guages and its rare you will find cheap prices for these at all. As well as I love looking at all they have. it is literally everywhere once you walk up that flight of stairs, if you find the place. *hint go towards the BK and look for the Unimax sign.* The store is fun and is an adventure to get to. I will defiantly be back, as i always bring my newly pierced friends here as well as go with my body modified friends already.
I am rating this 4 stars as if you are a newbie it can be overwhelming and they are sometimes helpful but sometimes not. Go in knowing what you want, or a style that you are looking for, they will work with you and be helpful with your questions as best they can. Also, go knowing what guage you are, it will help as sometimes they have styles only at a certain guage.
The statement never judge a book by its cover definitely applies when talking about this place. From the outside it looks  like an abandoned building, when you come inside you have to walk up a long narrow, dimly lit staircase, once your inside it's like WOW!!! This place us huge. They have a huge selection of belly rings, toe rings, nipple rings and belly  rings. They do tattoos and body piercings. The women behind the counter looked sort of our of place, but they were friendly and patient as I tried to decide which tongue ring I wanted. The place was clean and the prices are also reasonable, will definitely be back...
Review Source:If you want ear stretchers, body jewelry, etc., you're better off shopping here. Truth be told, if you go anywhere else, you're probably gonna get ripped off. It's not THE cheapest, but still a better alternative.
Well I know you didn't ask for my advice, but here goes; it's better if you know what you want in advance. When the other reviewers mention this, they're not kidding.
Other than jewelry and tattoo supplies, there's a neat little book selection, mostly body arts related. Plus postcards, some kick-knaks, etc.
The only drawback, and why I've given this place three stars, is that sometimes the Asian ladies who work at the front counters can be rude. Hey, since the supplies are decently priced, it is what it is. Oh yeah, and the stairs can be a pain too, but that doesn't bother me too much. Even though, I rather shop here than Hot Topic.
Okay, I'm upgrading my review to three stars, because in truth I've been getting jewelry from Unimax for years--no matter how I bad-mouth it.
They're also affiliated with Sacred Tattoo around the corner, and Pure Body Arts--based in Williamsburg, but with their piercing outlet inside Sacred Tattoo--is a really convenient way for one hand to wash the other, so to speak.
You have to know what you want, but I find it irresistably cheap and convenient, which is why I upgraded my rating.
While 'Unimax Supply' carries items and jewelry that you can not find anywhere else, especially all in one collection in a shop that almost feels like you're selecting out of a warehouse catalog, the staff is a bit underwhelming to say the least.
If you don't know what you want, it's difficult to simply look through the cases and find it. Not every bin has a display stand, and even this wouldn't be a huge problem  - Just ask the staff, right?
Unfortunately, all 5 times I have visited Unimax there was only one person working there. One person serving what is usually 10+ customers. It's always the same woman, an elderly Asian lady.
She does not know her stuff. I have been here 5 times, and out of these 5 times, she has managed to screw up what I asked for 3 of these times. Even after reassuring me it was correct! (Which it was not.)
Being body jewelry, there is a strict no-return policy. I understand this. But if I ask for a piece in 1/2" inch and I get 7/16" inch instead, well, it's rather aggravating. Especially after the prices they charge. (Much of their stuff can be found on ebay for much, much cheaper.)
Out of the 3 "bad" times I have visited Unimax, it was always an issue of sizing:
Me: "I need 1/2". Are you sure this is 1/2"? It looks 7/16"."
Lady: "YEAH. YEAH. IT IS 1/2"."
When I get home and measure it, sure enough, it is 11mm. Not 13mm. It is 7/16".. So I am stuck with at least 30 dollars worth of jewelry that is not compatible with my hole spacing. I guess I have to bring a ruler... Because asking her "are you sure?" is literally fruitless. She isn't paying attention to the bins she pulls out.
While I really love this place's selection, and even the idea of a jewelry supply shop, I can not fathom why the main person running the place has absolutely no concept of what the customer wants, and ultimately sells them the incorrect items. Even worse, she is very curt, and rushes everyone. You are a bother, she doesn't want you there.
Overall, the store gets an A+, but their staff gets a fat F. It really breaks my heart, but after 3 strikes, I will no longer purchase items at Unimax. I simply cannot afford to pay for someone else's incompetence. The bins are labeled. If I ask for a certain size, it shouldn't be a problem to select that size. Unfortunately, since customers are not allowed to touch the jewelry, you have to take a leap of faith and hope that the lady grabs the right thing. (3 out of 5 times she doesn't.) It's no coincidence that the same employee was able to sell me the wrong sizes on three separate occasions.
I'll stick to mail-order from now on. Unimax could be great, but I can't keep buying the same item repeatedly until I get the right size. With the money I spent repeat-buying the same exact piece, I could have just ordered 3 custom pieces exactly as I needed them.
To add insult to injury they have a credit card minimum of 10 dollars, which as far as I know, is an illegal business practice. Disappointing.
I am just starting my career in tattooing. Â I am fortunate enough to have found a great place to apprentice, but before today, didn't own my own machine. Â
I do now thanks to Shannon at Unimax.
Being a tattooing newbie, I had my own ideas on what I wanted. Â I also figured spending more on some items was better. Â (Sometimes yes and sometimes no...)
After a quick hello and introduction, Shannon sized me and my abilities up. Â Without rushing me or pointing to equipment I didn't need (yet), Shannon lead me to the items I needed. Â I figured (as I think other customers should) she's the expert...so I took all of her advice.
A Diauan Liner, a red silicone clip cord, a blue mini power supply, a Treadlite foot switch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch needle-in-tubes, Phantom gloves, petroleum jelly, blue rubber bands, practice skins, sharps container, wooden depressors, and of course ink.
I was a bit overwhelmed with the variety...but that's a good thing because I can't wait to go back.
Thank you Shannon and Caitlyn for helping make my dreams come to life.

This place is awesome! It's in the middle of Chinatown, in a random building and up a tiny stairway... I would have never found it if I hadn't found it on the internet first. I went in to buy my boyfriend wooden plugs... the prices were more than I thought they'd be (around $25+) but I've never bought plugs before and maybe that's normal. There are tons of choices, it's very clean and organized, and the staff was quite helpful. I would definitely head back here for any other body jewelry-- they seem to have a bigger selection than most places in the city.
Review Source:So much to choose from! Pricing is okay. Just depends what you want. If your looking for anything tattoo or piercing related they will have it. They sale wholesale and retail so they have everybody covered. I found this place on online. Now I buy all of my plugs, and tapers there I won't go any where else!
Review Source:This is one of those places where it's best to walk in with an idea of what you want because there are probably more barbells and rings than you've ever seen before. Â I found out about this place from a friend whose tattoo/piercing shop got their supplies from here and I've always been impressed with what I've gotten for my money. Â If you enjoy getting poked with needles, this is the place for you.
Review Source:A kid I worked with named Tanner first told me about Unimax because we both have stretched ears. Â Essentially, Unimax is a manufacturer and wholesaler of all things involving body modification. Â You can get plugs, studs, hoops, barbells, tattoo guns, ink etc, all at wholesale prices. Â It actually has the biggest body jewelry selection in New York and is where many of the city's tattoo and piercing spots get their shit. Â But honestly, Unimax is more than just a tattoo and piercing wholesaler; it's a celebration of body art in all its forms. Â They sell all kinds of books on the history of tattooing and piercing, as well as books on random on shit like circus freaks. Â I ended up getting into a long conversation with Wes Wood, the owner of Unimax and Saved Tattoos, and he philosophized to me for 20 minutes or so about the history of tattooing, and how he thinks that people have the urge to be tattooed first and that they make up the reasoning for it later. Â We also talked about tattooing as a folk art. Â I liked him a lot. Â So yeah, if you're a tattooed or pierced freak, this might be your new favorite place in the city.
