I've had Gill do many piercings, and he's always professional and does a great job. He even got my septum piercing to look straight on my crooked nose. Tonight I went in not for a new piercing, but to get some help with the nipple piercings Gill did several years ago. I had to take out all of my jewelry for a medical procedure, and surprisingly, my nipple piercings tightened up significantly in just a few hours. By the time I was able to get to the shop, the jewelry had been out for over 24 hours.
I explained to Ruth what had happened, and we discussed my options. Since the piercings had been done at 8ga, if we couldn't get them back to their original size, I could go smaller. She took the jewelry I had brought with me and put it in to sterilize, along with the 8ga and 10ga tapers.
It took well over an hour to get them stretched, and she was very patient with me the whole time. Â I won't say I enjoyed the experience, but I will say that Ruth made it a lot less painful than it could have been.
My daughter and I took my 7 year old granddaughter to Diablo Rojo for ear piercing. Â The staff was wonderful, and took very good care of her. Â The entire procedure was explained to us in detail, and we were given detailed instructions on how to care for the ears during the healing process. Â It was a very positive experience for all involved.
Review Source:This Is the cleanest and most professional Piercing Studio I Have Ever Visited. The Selection Of Jewelry Offered Boggled My Mind, And If You Can't Find That Perfect New addition in-Store You Can Almost Certainly Have It Ordered, Totally Customized To Your Taste. Oh, And Everything Is Sterilized Before Your Very Eyes. For All Of These Reasons, I Would Recommend Diablo Rojo To Anyone Serious About Their Piercings, And To Top It All Off The Staff Is Fantastic. I Had The Good Fortune Of Having Sam (Who Works At Both Locations,) Put My First Set Of Plugs In At The South Lamar Shop. He Has A Very Calming Vibe And Though Extremely Knowledgeable And Professional, Will Joke With You And Make You Feel Right At Home. A Friendly Dude Who Enjoys His Work And Will Talk To You About Anything, Which Is Always Refreshing. My Final Point Is That Yes, You Will Pay More Here Than Most Other Studios Around, But Much Like With Anything Else, You Absolutely Get What You Pay For. Every Last Piece Of Jewelry In The Shop Is Made From The Highest Quality Material That Piercers Can Get Their Hands On. How Do We Know This? The Good Folks At Diablo Won't Even Entertain The idea Of Buying From Manufacturers That Cant Produce Official Certificates From The Steel Mills In Which The Jewelry Was Claimed To Be Crafted. THAT, Is Some Seriously in-Depth Dedication. Additionally, If You're Seriously Committed To Making A Long-term Alteration To Your Body, Why Would You Skimp In The First Place? I Say Don't Settle For Anything Less Than The Best Quality When You're Punching Holes In Your Body And Filling Them With Shiny Metal Objects. Hands-Down The Best Piercing Experience I've Had, Worth The Price And Then Some. Recommended For All.
Review Source:I have been meaning to write this review for a while. Â This piercing shop is horrible. Â I have multiple piercings and have been to multiple piercing shops, and have never had such poor service performed as at Diablo Rojo. Â I have had my nose pierced for over 8 years. Â I work as a field geologist, and during a recent field session my nose ring fell out was lost in the field. Â The ring had been out for a few days when I went to this shop to get a new one put in.
STRIKE 1:  Ruth fitted a new screw nose ring for me.  She did not bend it wide enough to fit my nose cartilage, and when it didn't fit instead of taking it out she shoved it in.  It was so tight that the jewel part of the ring was actually pulled into the was so swollen that  I couldn't touch any part of it because it was so painful.  So I went back to the shop to have it fixed.
STRIKE 2: Â The woman working could barely get the ring out because it was so poorly fitted and my nose was so swollen. Â Instead of fitting me with a new ring she attempted to "straighten" the bends in this one and then rebend it. Â It didn't actually completely straighten out, and instead had tiny bends in the part that should have been straight. Â My nose was still really swollen. For a second time I had a nose ring shoved into my nose that didn't fit the shape of the hole.
STRIKE 3: Â I now have a nose ring stuck in my nose that I can't get out because the shape it took on by being bent, unbent, and then rebent is not the same shape as my hole. Â I am going to have to get it cut out of my nose and pay for a new one.
In the 8 years I've had my nose pierced I have never EVER had a ring incorrectly fitted. Â My hole is well established, so they didn't even have to perform a piercing.
**********************************ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS FIT A PIECE OF JEWELRY TO MY NOSE AND THEY ROYALLY SCREWED THAT UP. Â I GOT CHARGED $$$$ FOR THEIR MISTAKE AND NOW HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND PAY TO HAVE ANOTHER NEW RING PUT IN.******************************
THIS PLACE SUCKS.

ATTN YELPERS: IN FAIRNESS TO BUSNESS OWNER, HIS REPLY'S HIDDEN UNLESS YOU OPEN IT UP. PLEASE DO SO. YOU NEED TO READ EVERYTHING. THANKS. "larrythediner"

Dear Philip (Owner),
I'm NOT gonna keep playing "tit-for-tat" w/ ya, or "he-said-she-said". This is my SECOND reply to your SECOND response to my original review. I post it here cuz I want it to be Public, for other Yelpers to read, not just private message between you and I.
If you reply or not, this is my LAST WORD to ya. SOMEONE has to stop this cycle, & I'll be glad to be the one.
No other business owner's ever written me back, though I WISH certain ones WOULD! And some of my reviews ARE negative; most are NOT (look at my Profile).
I respect your pride in your business; now, YOU must respect my disagreeing. There's not ANY business that pleases everyone; accept it.
My INITIAL review STANDS.
You WEREN'T there for the conversation in question, so you've gotten a 2nd-hand recount. I'm sure, being the intelligent caring person you obviously are, you know the difference between "INQUIRING" and "COERCING"? I did not cross the line. I made NO DEMANDS, just ASKED QUESTIONS.
Asking questions is still OK, isn't it?
Now I quote from your last reply; is this what "she-said-I-said"?
"You also made the argument that if you signed an informed consent form that we should be able to do whatever you wanted us to do..."
Now, if I HAD said that, I'd not blame ya for taking issue. Problem is, I made NO SUCH STATEMENT.
But I read your "informed consent form", as you call it. Yes, customer gives consent, but ALSO excuses YOU from any legal liability if there's a problem. I CHALLENGE you to DENY that; I READ your form. This was NOT VERBALLY MENTIONED at the time; ever heard of "FULL DISCLOSURE"?
Since you WERE NOT PRESENT to witness conversation, you'll have to either believe me, or your trusted employee's; it's OBVIOUS which side of the fence you're on.
Most of your second reply was only a rehash of the FIRST; in fact, you sent updated reply to me TWICE?
I ALREADY AGREED Â your staff is better trained / licensed; why keep harping on that?
I checked out your price list; it'd be nice if one could "sort" by PRICE; you can't. The "inexpensive" stuff (I use the term loosely) is mixed in w/ the costlier, & NONE is truly inexpensive.
Again, I AGREE it is QUALITY stuff. But I'm CERTAIN there are less expensive items that'd meet your standards IF YOU CHOSE TO OFFER 'EM, choices that wouldn't "hose" the customer in the process. I don't expect you'll ADMIT that; since I'm not in the business, I'm not gonna take my time doing research YOU should be doing, just to prove you wrong. But outta respect to your customers YOU should OFFER LOWER-PRICED OPTIONS, not just decide on a line of jewelry that most would agree is overpriced, even with your low markup. And having been in the Retail business in the past, YES, I do AGREE your mere 100% markup IS low, by industry standards. Not trying to be sarcastic, I am AGREEING. It's just that starting point is too high.
In closing, my approach to your staff was same as in this letter. I was NEVER disrespectful, didn't conduct myself in a profane manner and, most importantly, DIDN'T TRY TO PRESSURE ANYONE. YES, I disagree with certain policies, mainly cost of your jewelry & if there are cheaper QUALITY options; AND your "informed consent" form, which is much more than THAT. But nobody reads that stuff anyway.
I disagree with you, Philip, but I've done so respectfully, IMHO.
You, on the other hand, make what seems a veiled swipe at my PATRIOTISM, cuz you sense I don't wanna "buy American"; untrue on both counts. But Americans DO look for GOOD VALUE.
Again, I ask if EVERY ITEM in your shop's American-made, not just the jewelry. Maybe ya overlooked that question in my last letter? I will accept a "last word" on THAT, if you care to reply.
Yelp's NOT a place fer FEUDIN', Philip; we're NOT the "Hatfield's & McCoy's". Yelp's a PUBLIC FORUM. Obviously you're not accustomed to negative reviews; FIRST time you got less than 5 Stars, but there are only 6 OTHER REVIEWS. Not everyone is gonna think you're perfect. GET OVER IT.
I wrote a review, you responded twice, I replied twice. We've BOTH thoroughly debated the matter.
I'm trying to be kind, even though you've been ARGUING with what COULD have been your customer, for all to see, so I'm staying at Two Stars.
For now...
Time to drop it and move on; OK, Philip?

I went to get my nose pierced at a place near my house. It hurt so bad and the piercing was angled wrong so the jewelry sat wrong in my nose. A week later the stone fell out. I went to Diablo Rojo and he replaced it with much more expensive, but better jewelry. A week later I just couldn't stand how the jewelry sat wrong. This is on my face and it needs to be right. I went back and had John piece the other side. I am very happy with it.
Please listen to me. It is worth it to pay the extra money to get a good piercing and good jewelry. Not only that, but I dreaded getting the second piercing due to how painful the first one was, but when John did it, I could barely feel any pain. The difference was unreal and I have a high pain thresh hold. So don't go anywhere else.
I'm so happy I found this place. I had lost my Monroe stud and needed a new one. After doing a bit of Yelping I found this place and went yesterday afternoon.
The guy who helped me - sorry, I didn't get his name, or maybe I did and my short term memory loss is back - was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He also offered to put in the new jewelry for free.
The shop is clean, comfortable and welcoming and the selection of body jewelry is outstanding. Needless to say I am very happy with my new piece of jewelry and I will most definitely be returning and recommending friends.
My one complaint is actually a kick in the ass to myself - I forgot to use my Go Local card for 10% off.
Yes, they are expensive, but completely worth every penny. Â I've gone to many cheap pircing places to get my piercings. Â I was tired of inexperienced butchers attempting to do what I'd like. Â Almost every time it did not go as planned. Â I decided to go to a piercing only professional shop (Rojo). Â The piercist was friendly, helpful and did EXACTLY what I wanted in no time flat. Â I will always return there and reccomend friends.
Review Source:I was contemplating getting my cartilege pierced for a while and decided to take the plunge last July at Diablo Rojo. Â So I am a 34-year old CPA and I was kinda insecure about being too much of a nerd to go through with it, or I would get laughed out of the studio. Â So I took a deep breath and went in.
AWESOME experience. Â Emrys was my piercer and I can't say enough good things about him. Â He's very by-the-book (in a good way) and gave me plenty of guidance on where on my ear I would want it to be, the thickness of the hoop, the diameter, etc. Â When the time came to pierce it, I didn't even feel it. Â Completely painless.
A couple of days later, my ear got mad at me for the piercing and I went back to the shop and Emrys was just awesome. Â Looked at it, it wasn't infected, do this, do that....and it was better 2 days later. Â 6 months later I went back to upgrade my jewelry and the minute I walked in the door, Emrys remembered me and asked how my ear was.
When the time comes for me to get another piercing, this is the only place I'll go, and Emrys is the only piercer I'll let pierce me ever again!
So, I've had my ears (tragus, cartilage), neck, eyebrows, and lip pierced here. Â I would *not* bother going anywhere else!!
Diablo Rojo is INCREDABLY professional. Â I have been pierced by Vincent (who's moved on), Pauly (who made me feel absolutely at ease and isa gentleman), and Jimmy? (he has red hair and sub dermal forearm implants, I may have misremembered his name, but he was FANTASTIC and helped me with complicated piercing questions/decisions).
The jewelry selection is top notch. Â I cannot express enough how impressed I am, consistently, by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Â They are so knowledgeable it just really makes you feel comfortable with the fact they're about to deliberately shove large metal instruments of ouch into your skin. Â I'm terrified of needles and they always manage to calm me down.
I have never gotten an infection in any of my piercings, no rejections, they advise me to better placements of piercings so it looks better than I even expected, and they are very quick with the piercings and minimize the pain.
I would recommend the South Lamar location mostly because I have run into issues where the Guadalupe location is simply too crowded (especially when UT is in session). Â Ah, the curses of being a well-run and popular business.
In all honesty this is the only place I recommend my friends to when they want to get piercings; Â I would not bothering getting pierced anywhere else and I can't wait for my next visit!!!
So after 22 years I finally got around to piercing my ears, no thanks to my boyfriend who bought me a beautiful pair of earrings and thought to take me to get it done. I knew already that I wanted to avoid the mall and go to a professional studio, and I'm so glad I did. The piercing itself was not at all expensive, especially if you have a Go Local card, (its buy one get one free). The jewelry on the other hand is a little pricey but worth it. It's all made in the US so you don't have to worry about having impurities in the metal. The piercer also took the time to explain the process so that there were no surprises while I was in the chair. I received great information on aftercare as well.
Over all I had a great experience and I would recommend this place to anybody. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the information you receive is great
