I got a beautiful tattoo from Katzen tonight.
If it were only Katzen I was reviewing, I would give 5 stars...but...
THE PARKING LOT IS CRAP. So, I take away one star.
Ignore what the building looks like on the outside, and deal with the parking. You'll be glad you did.
The inside is a clean, professional, sterile tattoo shop. They have comfy tat chairs.
Katzen was able to take my basic idea and fit it into my price range and create a lovely tattoo I am always going to love.
I would definitely send my friends here.
I went in yesterday to get a helix piercing and to accompany my friend who was getting a tattoo. Everyone was very professional and friendly. Drew, who did my piercing, was AWESOME! He talked me through the entire process and was very gentle with the needle and cleaning. Definitely going back if I ever want another piercing or a tattoo.
Review Source:I went in there to get my belly pierced. I mostly went in for the cheap prices and I heard fair reviews. The service was fast and there were not as many people as I expected there to be on a Sunday. The place was average, clean. The guy at the front desk was really nice but my piercer was a bit quiet. I tried to ask some questions but he was a bit vague. This did worry me but he was actually very efficient with my piercing. It never has gotten infected and healed pretty fast. He pierced it right and i don't regret getting it there.
Review Source:***A MESSAGE TO THE Owner's)***
Yelp makes me give one star, otherwise I would have put down a ZERO.
Im not sure if you take the time to read these posts (if you care about your business and the patrons that skim it, I hope you do), my experience at Platinum Ink was laughable and a waste of my time. Here's why:
The artist the I spoke with was incredibly rude, not helpful and reluctant to give me the time of day. I had priced out the tattoo I wanted (which was/is incredibly simple and would have only taken about 30 mins of his time) at a few other shops in Austin and scoping out other artists.  He was $70 over the price of about six other shops. I understand that price varies between artists...but his was absurd. He refused to work with me on the font of the script i wanted and tried to get me to "add more" to the tattoo to get me to do the payment plan system Platinum Ink offers. I asked to speak with one of the two other artists that were there at the time, and he told me no, they would say the same thing. Despite his attitude and disposition, I was incredibly nice to him.
Yelp makes me give one star, otherwise I would have put down a ZERO.
This is my first tattoo, and I plan to have much more in the future, but not with Platinum Ink. My Wife, Two friends and a family member are looking to have more ink done as well, I will be more than happy to tell them to not waste their time at your shop. You can offer all the weekends specials, and daily deals you want, but it doesn't mean much if your staff cant be professional enough to have respect for the customers that walk through the door. This guy tried everything he could to make me feel like i was stupid for the design that I wanted and that I wasn't welcome at the shop. Might I add, there were no other customers there at the time. I really hope things change there, I like to root for local business' and respect the craft of tattoo artistry (I'm an artist myself, just not tattoos), but my experience was so horrible that i had to voice my concerns and post this so others can save themselves the headache I had.
****TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS****
DONT waste your time with this shop, talk to the peeps at Atomic, they are HANDS DOWN much nicer, more professional and genuinely care about the work they put out and having repeat customers that they treat like family.
YUCK. I heard so many so-so things about this shop so me and boyfriend went in to get random tattoos.
1. I know good tattoos are not cheap and cheap tattoos are not good, and I defiantly should keep by that.
But I just wanted a soild red pair of brass knucks so I didn't really think that it was going to be that big of a deal. We ended up getting Kyle to tattoo us. My pain tolerance is pretty high and I have a side piece but he was kind of hurting me but I just was thinking it was because of the location of the tattoo (in the inside of my upper arm) so I just stuck it out. Then after he was done with mine he did my boyfriends (he got a cupcake with color in the same place) and before he started he was jackin' around with his gun like there was something wrong with it when he was doing my tattoo.
After it started healing everyone was telling me that it looked really bad and I was just in denial and I was just telling people that it would probably look better once it heals all the way.
WRONG!
He scared me so bad and my boyfriends tattoo turned out fine. Again I have a few tattoos and i'm not new to aftercare. My side piece was done at Rock of Ages and it really shows that they know what their doing.
It just really frustrates me that people see my skin color and they think that they need to dig on me, especially when the tattoo artist is of black/mixed also, so you would think he would know.
When I talked to them about it they just assumed that I just didn't take care of it well, which just pissed me off.
I would never go back there again.
It looks kind of grungy from outside, but I was surprised to see that it was really clean when I walked in! It even smelled like a dentist's office. They were prompt to ask what I wanted done, and prompt to call my name so I could get my piercing.
The guy who pierced my rook took me into this room and played some upbeat spanish-sounding music--I guess to make both of us feel more at home? He answered all the questions I had in regard to pain and aftercare, and the piercing was quick and easy! Super friendly, and I'm really satisfied with it.
Also, I went on a Sunday night, so piercings are cheaper! Most start at $15; I know my rook was $15.
If you are ever considering getting a tattoo or piercing, I would most definitely recommend going to Platinum Ink South. I don't know anything about the North location but I have had nothing but great experiences at the South shop.
I went in about a month ago to get my nose pierced and not only was the price awesome ($21.00 AFTER tax and aftercare) but the service was great too. Darren was incredibly nice and patient at the counter, ringing us out, and getting our paperwork done. Joe is the one who actually pierced my nose and he was really friendly and patient with me. He had no problem explaining the procedure beforehand and never once down played my fears. The actual piercing was done in 1 minute but he had no problem talking with me for several minutes afterwards, explaining aftercare.
I called in this afternoon because I was experiencing some soreness still and uncomfortability around the piercing and Darren was very quick to suggest that I come in so he could take a look. I went back, Darren immediately saw the problem, and helped me fix it within five minutes! Haha turns out my nose is just a little too big, nothing major! But again, he never down played my fears and concerns and he was very friendly.
I shopped and called around a lot before I decided where to pierce my nose, eventually choosing Platinum Ink based on price. But, the next time I decide to get work done, I will go back because of the great atmosphere, incredible customer service, and awesome professional staff!
I went to Platinum Ink's south location this past summer to get my first tattoo. I was surprised to see that the location on Riverside was very clean and modern inside. The employees were also very nice and helpful, so I did not feel uncomfortable at all even though it was my first time getting a tattoo.
I definitely recommend J Dub! He's a really cool guy and explained everything very well. I got a really saturated tattoo, so in the healing process, it scabbed over heavily and pulled off some of the ink. I returned after the 90-day touch-up period, but he reworked my tattoo for free! It was mostly because such a heavily saturated tattoo would have scarred even worse if I had gotten it done within the 90 days, so I'm thinking the price of the rework is a case-by-case basis.
Overall, I really like Platinum Ink's south location. If you've never gotten a tattoo before, this place is not what you would expect from guys with tattoos and piercings all over their bodies. They are professionals, and I'm sure anyone would have a great experience here.
